Are the words flowing? How many you got?

  1. Sandie Hudson Says:

Well NaNo started and I’m off to a flying start for the first three days I’m up to 11,529 words WOO HOO. The story is flowing even if it is giving me a few surprises.

Good luck everyone for this week, hope you all reach your write goals.

    Hugs
    Sandie

  2. Susanna Carr Says:

This week I turned in my short story, which came out to be 13,000 words. My single-title is giving me fits, though. I just had to scrap a scene because it didn’t work for the book. I hate it when I have to delete big chunks!

  3. Maura Anderson Says:

I’m stalled with lots of other things. Oy. Finally have the storyboard up for my WIP and a second one so I can start writing again tomorrow.

    Current Words: 12,381
    Goal: 14,250
    % of Goal: 87%

  4. bunnygirl Says:

I finally figured out where I should actually be starting this story and in the process, I found out a lot of really interesting things were going on that I hadn’t previously been aware of. All of this set me back from actually writing because the new plot points and motivations were coming so fast I was spending more time taking notes than writing.

But I’m back on track now, with a paltry 2,000 words moving forward from my new starting point. It’s flowing, though, and I’m excited. I think my nightly word count will improve greatly now that I’m not fighting my own lack of interest.

  5. Thomma Lyn Says:

WOOT! Started NaNo on Thursday, and the story is flowing like molten lava. 8,810 words since Thursday. Lots of neat surprises, too, though I had spent a great deal of time beforehand brainstorming. It’s so much fun, getting into writing the story and seeing how characters get their own ideas about how things should go!

  6. B.L. Foxxe Says:

Blech, didn’t get much done for Running for Safety. Word count is at 32,836k.
However for the NaNo project I’m at 8k+ so I’m doing good. I guess if I add that total together I’m actually closer to 41k hadn’t thought about it until now. Hehe.

I’m still in the outlining stage and hoped to get more done. Family crises have a way of driving out the writing. However, I’m not giving in to the desire of not writing. :) I’ll just figure a new way of getting the writing in.

  7. Portia Da Costa Says:

I’m still keeping the writing moving forward… and feeling grateful to this challenge for making that happen!

Counting from the beginning I’ve written 25K words, and my current daily average is 1270. I’ve done 34% of my challenge WIP and am feeling good about that progress. Some of the text is a bit rough and ready, but at least I’ve got something to edit, and because I’ll have the first draft finished well before the delivery date, I’ll have plenty of time to wrestle it into shape! :)

  8. Amanda Freeman Says:

I’m also doing NaNo and so have finally been able to start my story. I’ve got 5211 words this week and am looking forward to ramping it up next week.

  9. Madelynne Ellis Says:

Gah, not nearly as well as I’d hoped at 13.5K, but having another set of proofs arrive on my desk really hasn’t helped. Still, I’m starting to enjoy the story and characters now.

  10. Jane Says:

Woohoo! I’ve written over 16000 words since the start of this, nearly 4000 the last few days.
    Yay!

  11. Maggie Says:

Health issues have slowed my down, so I have decided to adjust my daily goals. I am trying for 250 words a day for the time being and will see if that is achievable.

So far for this week I did 549 words and total since the start 3049, so there is progress, and that is the main thing.

Hopefully I will gain in word count as things get better…

  12. Kris Yankee Says:

No, the words are not flowing. Too many issues at home (didn’t help that we didn’t have power for two days) and at work kept me away from the laptop. I’m hoping that this is a better week.
    Kris

  13. Emily Ryan-Davis Says:

I just counted up all the words I’ve done since the challenge started. Between the three projects, I’m up to a 15,471 and an average of about 900 words/day for the last 17 days. They haven’t come at 900 words/day, though, and probably won’t continue to do so.

My goal starting out was 52,500 for the 70 days. 37,030 to go. For deadline purposes, I need to accomplish about 25 of those next 37k in the next 26 days. Dunno how I’m going to do it (work, wedding on the west coast, thanksgiving) but I refuse to miss the chance to hit the Pearl submission deadline of Dec 1, and I refuse to take my contracted WIP’s rough draft into December.

  14. Shiloh Says:

9800 words this week. Close to 5k since last check in. :-)

  15. Jaci Says:

Good week. I did about 16,000 words. Would like to increase that for next week since deadlines are breathing down my neck. We’ll see if I’m able to. :-)

  16. Joely Says:

I started my NANO project, 7709 words so far on that project. My Sven total is 28862 including 775 words this morning (I plan to add at least another 1K later today). Since last Sunday’s check in, I’ve added 11,439 words.

  17. Anna Adams Says:

I’m on track, but I haven’t been keeping strict count of the words because I’ve pretty much gone over my 750 while I was doing the revision. From now on, I’ll keep an exact count.

  18. Liane Says:

I’m at 23000 and change, not counting the 1700 I already have today. Since Last Sunday I’ve added about 14,000 words. The Nano book is singing, unlike Kiss of the Cerberus which felt like pulling molars until I got over the middle hump. Now it’s moving along, too.

I did too much blogging this week, probably could have managed more word count, but I like my blogging too much to give it up. As long as I’m making six pages a day, my blogs stay! :D

  19. Anna Black Says:

I’m still doing well. My total for 70 Days of Sweat is 31,515 words and I’m writing on average since 70 Days started 1,576 words a day.

Speaking of, that’s what I gotta go do. Write! Been on the Internet long enough this morning! Back to work on Monday! Gotta use this precious spare time productively! :)

  20. Ann K Says:

I’m getting back into the novel-writing, but I’ll admit I’m not doing it every day at the moment. Which is to say, I skipped Saturday :)

But, I’m making progress on the novel with Sven and that’s more than I was doing before, so I’m pleased.

  21. Annie Oortman Says:

I’m at 22000 words total, about 75% of where I wanted to be by this time. Let alot of things get in my way this week (at least that the rationalization I’m selling myself). Printed out Jo’s piece on finding the button to avoid procrastination. Hope it will spur me this week to catch up.

  22. Melissa Blue Says:

This week I’ve added 8,597 words bringing to my goal for this week. (making it to the half-way point) I’ve added around 222k since the beginning and now I’m at 27,738 total words. My writing goal this week is to write at least 7k words.

  23. Melissa Schroeder Says:

I added close to 10K this week, but we had bad personal news that sort of got me off track. It should all get sorted out early this coming week, and then I just have to deal with the fallout.
But I am plugging ahead today and working on edits. I have to write a new scene and rewrite another, so that will add to my word count.

  24. Michael Woodhead Says:

    7944

  25. Keziah Fenton Says:

Life sucker punched me this week. Hard.
I think I did more re-arranging than any thing. The scenes are lining up better so the word count should increase. I managed a couple of hundred last night. Not much but still forward instead of stagnant. I’ll take what I can get.

  26. Karen Erickson Says:

I finished my novella at around 23,500 words and I plan on turning that into the editor today/tomorrow. Glad that’s done. Since Wednesday I’ve written 4733 words which brings my week total 11,431. 6700 of that is the start of a new novella, another one I went to get to the editor by the end of the month at the latest.

    I’m still sweatin’, thank goodness!

  27. Silke Says:

I’m getting closer to my first goal of uh… letting my hero have a goal (yes yes I know how that sounds!) Trouble is, I still am not sure if it’s working, but at least I’m tweaking so I can add words later. :)

Ok, off to haunt Karen’s blog now!

  28. Jen P Says:

Hi, I finally wandered back after missing a week or so. :-/ With no new words yet today, I am at a grand total of 3186 words. Contrary to what you might think if you looked at that pathetic little number, I have gotten a lot of work done revision-wise.

  29. Mechele Armstrong Says:

Ha! I wrote nearly 7 K since last checkin. 6 K was on the shorter work, which I finished. Started a new longer work today and wrote 1100 on it today. That’s going to be my NaNo piece so I need to work work work.

But since the 70 days challenge started, I figured out, I’ve written over 26 K! I’m pretty happy about that.

  30. Stephanie Staton Says:

Since NaNo started, I have 4,755 words (not including any of today’s words). My plans are to get around 13,000 words by tomorrow night because I plan to take Tuesday (my birthday) as a write only if an idea hits day. I am really excited about the book and where the characters are going to take me.

  31. Aden Says:

Doing well. Last week was big–job fair, two solid leads (one of which is heading to interview), I was one of six finalists in Nathan Bransford’s first paragraph contest, and the personal site is almost ready to go onto a production server. The words are coming easily and everything is looking up.

  32. Ava Rose Johnson Says:

I kept steady with about 1000 words a day this week, but I’m not sure how much of that I can use. I’m in edit mode at the moment. I need to get a fews subs out there.

  33. Seanachi Says:

I’m on vacation this weekend, so I busted chops and got my words for the week in before I left. I’m sitting at 8485 (for 7500 minimum) for the week and just under 25k for total. Woot!

  34. Mary Says:

I’ve written almost 3k words since last check-in. Right on goal! :-)

  35. Laura Elliott Says:

The total is up to 11,365!!

(It would’ve been more if I remembered to bring my laptop power cord with me this weekend).

  36. Susan B. Says:

Since Nano started on Thursday, I’m right on track with 6758. Nano has me doing about twice as many words per day as my goal for the last Sweat. It’s harder than I thought it would be!

  37. Kim Knox Says:

*phew* finally got here… by browser wouldn’t let me play :-(

My total so far is 24,292. *squeee*

    Kim

  38. Sandy l Says:

Clearly not doing as well as some people; however, I have over 2,000 words, possibly 3000 words. I had write scenes during the week. Most importanly, I’m writing a scene a night. I am getting into the habit.

  39. Marianne Says:

    NaNo has been a boon… I’ve written 4200 words since November 1st!!

  40. Andrea Says:

Everyone is doing so well- congrats!

Since starting Nano, I’m only at about 1700 words, so technically three days behind. That’s mostly due letting myself get distracted too easily. I also don’t have a firm plot yet and I’m not just writing through it. Too much sitting and staring at the screen. I have to let that go and allow myself to write whatever comes out.

  41. Kate Scott Says:

I have to say, I’d given up on Sven. I have a LOT of things going on in my life right now, and writing had to take the backseat.

And then Saturday morning happened. I had 4.5 hours where I had nothing in front of me but a pad of paper and a pen. No computer, no dishes, no work. Nothing but the pen and paper.

And I wrote. I managed 2,096 words on my current WIP, and when that stopped flowing, I got over 1k on the beginning of the sequel.

All in all, I’m pretty stoked right now. :-)

  42. AJ O'Donovan Says:

i’ve got 2500 more words this week. on uni assignments *doh* one was times over three days and one is due tomorrow, so no time to do my writing. this must improve soon, or i’ll have to drop out.

  43. Matt S Says:

Nothing this week, but as I said last checkin, that’s because I got flooded out of my apartment :)

  44. Portia Da Costa Says:

Sorry to hear about your flooded aparment, Matt!

  45. Portia Da Costa Says:

That would be your apartment, not your aparment… LOL

  46. Nicole Gestalt Says:

I’ve only written 2500 words since Wednesday but have finished another story that I needed to get done by the end of the week. It would have been more but I’ve spent most of the time asleep ill.

My total word count is now 20,100 which I’m very happy about and way up from last time.

  47. Shannon Stacey Says:

I surpassed my goal of 7k for the week by 565 words, which sounds okay, but really isn’t. One of the things I’m trying to cure myself of is binge writing and I got 5570 of those words today. :(

But it’s word count, so I guess it’s all good in the end.

  48. Renee Lynn Scott Says:

I started with NaNo too. Congratulations to those of you who are rockin’! I’ve managed 3391 so far. I didn’t write yesterday but made revisions on a previous work. And I haven’t written yet today. I’m real tired so I’m not sure if I’ll get it done tonight or not.

    Keep the words coming.

  49. Karen Duvall Says:

I’m up to 37,049 words as of today (not done writing yet), and that’s a little over a third of my goal for the book. I got a little worried in the latter part of last week because I’d come to a sticky part of the plot and had some pacing issues. But after an epiphany I’m back on track and then some.

I didn’t do NaNo because the challenge was too intimidating. I like Sven better (who wouldn’t? Snort).

My only concern at this point is that I’m getting a bit phobic about meeting — or I should say exceeding — my goals and I’ve neglected other things in favor of my writing. Some of those things are work (translation: income-producing) issues, so I’m not sure I’ll be able to maintain my current rockin’ pace. I’ll try like hell, though. 8^)

  50. Ann Says:

My total for the week is 2161, for four days work, what that doesn’t count are the words that I cut (had to do some serious cutting and rearranging to get the plot back on track). Not much more in the way of cutting, so next week’s numbers should be better.

  51. Lori Says:

I’m very happy with my progress so far. Since I started with Sven, I’ve written 28228 words. A little motivation goes a long way!

  52. Dawn Says:

Current word total stands at 20,440, which is about 1800 words short of my goal to this date. Am not going to do Nano because November is usually a hectic month for me.

I haven’t done much actual writing this past week because I’ve had major issues with the plot etc. Now I’ve worked out the various plot lines using the 3-act structure and listed out the main scenes needed for the plots so I think it’ll get going. The only magic ingredient I need now is a good dose of discipline. :)

  53. Emily Ryan-Davis Says:

Doing my official Sunday check-in at just over 17000 words since 10/15.

  54. Wayne (aka Trybble) Says:

    Magic Touch:
    Total word count = 10,157
    New words written = 0

    Double O Blonde
    Total word count = 12,510
    New words written = 500

Thursday was a holiday, so I decided to take off Friday too. I figured I’d be really productive with a four day weekend. But alas, I spent time getting my car fixed, shopping for a new over, playing computer games with my son, and a zillion other errands. Hopefully, I can get back on track by next Wednesday.

Good luck to all, and Matt, I’m sorry to hear about your apartment. Hope things return to normal real soon.

    Take care………….Wayne

  55. Annie Says:

I mostly hand written my story this weekend so I don’t have a clue on the words count. I starting to get really scared that my story is awful. Accord to what have been written lately on this blog that a good thing. I just hope y’all are right.

  56. Ella Drake Says:

My total word count is just too embarrassing to post, but the good news is that this week I’ve finally gotten in the groove. I’m now averaging 1,000 a day on my WIP. Much better than it had been since it had seemed to get a little stale for me. Hope to finish this by the end of Nov, so it’d be nice to hit my stride and get at least 2k a day.

  57. catie Says:

ARGH! A tiny “critique”–of sorts–forced me to re-evaluate my protagonist’s motivation (something I hadn’t thoroughly given enough consideration). So while I’ve managed to accumulate 3,326 words thus far, I need to return to the beginning and rewrite.

    Geez do I feel deflated.

  58. Jordanne Says:

This week was complete with three free days to observe Halloween/Samhain. Having said that, I still managed to write over 4500 words this week, which is about 500 more words than last week. Rough tally thus far for Sven is about 15,000 words.

I’m perty darn pleased with myself.

  59. Marilyn Brant Says:

I’m checking in although I have nothing to add to my total during this period… I’ve worked on revisions (so I AM doing writing stuff) and I’ve worked on prep things for the scene I’m on in the new book…but dialogue? Narrative? New text of any kind? Nope. (sigh) Hoping for a better report on Wed. and congrats to everyone who met his/her goals this week.

  60. Lynn Says:

    A whopping 106 words since Wednesday. :-/
I’ve been preoccupied with non-writing issues, but as far as progress goes, it’s 106 more than I had before. I’ll keep working at it.

  61. Rebecca Airies Says:

This week has been good. I’m happy with the progress I’ve made on both of the stories I worked on this week. I wrote 6091 words since Wednesday and am at around 36% on my Sweating goal. :)

    Good luck to everyone!

  62. shannon kennedy Says:

Well, I’m rocking and rolling too. I got 10,100 words since Wednesday. I’m doing the NaNo challenge with a different story, so am keeping them separate. Anyway, I feel real positive and motivated, just like everyone else. Good luck to all. Keep writing!!!

  63. Lia Says:

I had a bit of a setback where I lost 50 pages (yikes!) but was able to get most of it back a few days later with a little help from friends. So that put me a little behind, but I’m back on track. Right now I have 12,604 words. Will have much more with NaNo well underway.

(Don’t forget, everyone. Back up your work!)

  64. Joy Renee Says:

because of prep work for NaNo and loosing a week to a migraine, I didn’t have any word count for Sven to report for the first two Sunday check-in’s. This week, thanks to a rip-roaring start on Spring Fever, my NaNo novel, I’m pleased to report 5723 words since midnight Nov 1st.

  65. Mandy M. Roth Says:

    8,239

  66. Jess Says:

I worked on a plot outline that I previously did not have, which I don’t count as words, but definitely as work. So.

I’m doing poorly this time because I have zero energy thanks to some health issues, the Kenya trip, and my day job sucking the life from me. ^_^

  67. Carrie Lofty Says:

Late again. 3430 Th-Sun. 16000 for the challenge. Only 760/day. Not good enough!

  68. deniz Says:

This weekend was a wash - I was soooo lazy. I drastically cut down my internet time and got a wee bit of research done but that was it… Need more energy in the coming weeks!!

  69. Lauren Dane Says:

I spent most of yesterday doing laundry I’d been ignoring and taking my soon to be ten year old to a family lunch. Then I edited and edited some more! As a result I didn’t get many new words down yesterday but I end the week with nearly 11K which is awesome and I’m now done with first round edits and a small revision.

Tonight it’s back to work on Standoff!

  70. Lauren Dane Says:

Catie - no need to feel deflated! This is all part of the writing process.

  71. Taylor Says:

I forgot to check in yesterday. I’ve not managed much, about another thousand words since wednesday. There are way too many germs in my house this week. I am plotting though, and making notes, so I expect to make up for a good chunk of it once I’m up to sitting at the comp for more than 12 minutes.

  72. JP Shaw Says:

I forgot to check in yesterday. I haven’t done anything all week, and feeling out sorts. I haven’t even blogged. In Sven I have over 25,000 words so far, and for Nano only 1,500 words. I don’t know how to get past this mental block of wanting to write, but having take care of everything at home, with my son, and family. I guess I just have to want it more, and try harder. :(

  73. Melani Blazer Says:

I’ve added about 1500 typed in and several more handwritten pages. Averaging 3-4 journal size pages per evening. Not as much as I’d like, but progress is progress. :)

Congrats to EVERYONE getting words on paper!

  74. Kathy McIntosh Says:

I’m making progress, which is progress. I think the challenge is helping; it certainly got me started again after a gap. Then came another gap, but a reminder on my site is kicking me back into gear. I think I am still on track for getting this first draft done by January. (But I started it long long ago.)
Congrats to those who are moving on! If we write, even a little, then we’re writers.
