15,730 words so far, not counting my nonfiction projects, and Kiss of the Cerberus should be done in first draft form today, and Tomorrow I begin Heart of Stone for Nanowrimo!
I’m not scared a nuttin’.
October 31st, 2007 at 7:34 am
I’m risking it… We survived Mischief Night last night, so I’m doing well
I’m close to 18k now in total. I just passed the 5k mark on my novella and I’m on the last scene of a short story of almost 6k

October 31st, 2007 at 7:42 am
Managed to get a couple of scenes written this week. Not as much as I’d hoped, but at least I’m still writing.
October 31st, 2007 at 7:43 am
Not at all.
Edited three chapters.
October 31st, 2007 at 7:46 am
So far so good. Managed to make my goal every day so far, even though there was one day I didn’t think I’d be able to!
14,435 so far.. and tomorrow starts work on my paranormal for NaNo…..
October 31st, 2007 at 7:52 am
No, I’m not scared either!
Even though I’ve had a slowish last couple of days [just struggling to my daily 1K] I’ve had a few pretty good days [up in the 1.7 and even 2.4 area] to make up for that. My total for the challenge so far is 21.5K, counting 350 words this morning. That’s around 30% of the 70K book that’s my main Sven WIP.
On the whole, I’m thrilled with the effect that the challenge has had on my output. I’m really carried along by the idea that we’re all rooting for each other to succeed. It’s a very strong motivating force.
October 31st, 2007 at 7:55 am
7000 words the past two days so I’m doing great this week so far!
October 31st, 2007 at 8:08 am
The writing is going well. Figuring out more threads as I go, weaving them in… I’m very pleased with how things are going! Woot!
October 31st, 2007 at 8:08 am
14.5k since the challenge started. I am very happy with that, because I’d been just kind of playing with this WIP forever. Now, I’m nearly finished with it and ready to begin the next one.
October 31st, 2007 at 8:15 am
Oh boy. Not so good this week. I worked on my query letter and my synopsis (groan), which were part of my goal, but I’ve also been working on an actual career plan, because I think it’s important that I know where I want to go in this career. I have additional, wonderful distractions too though. I found out that I am pregnant with my first child, so all trains of thought lead to baby shoes and curtains for the nersury just now. Congrats and good luck to everyone!
October 31st, 2007 at 8:31 am
I’m only scared about the pile of work i have to do still! If i counted non writing (as in non MS writing) i would be on around 5k by now, as it stands, i’ve still only done 517 pitiful words.
I’m actualy in the middle of a time assignment, so better get back to it.
October 31st, 2007 at 8:33 am
I got nothin’. As I mentioned Sunday, my apartment flooded and we had to move. I took a half day yesterday so I wouldn’t have to stay up all night finishing, and I’ll be taking half-hour lunches for the rest of the week to comp some of the time I took (I’d rather use as little personal time as possible). Since I’ll be unpacking and organizing after work all week, I doubt I’ll have anything for next check-in either…
October 31st, 2007 at 8:35 am
Heck yeah, I’m scared! I haven’t done ANYTHING on my novel since Sunday, except re-work my mini-synopsis only to discover that I’m starting in the wrong place. Oh well. It’s only words.
I did, though, finish my Halloween short story and I’m hosting a Halloween fiction carnival on my blog today. Info on how to join in is available on my blog.
October 31st, 2007 at 8:39 am
Actually, yeah. This is my last freebie day to blithely check-in with my no word count. Nano starts at midnight.
This is the last, worthless evening, that you’ll have to spend…
I got my “secrets to Nano” email from Chris Baty this morning which read:
“…Just write your allotment of 1667 words (or more) on November 1. Don’t edit any of it. Editing is for December. Then come back and write another 1667 words the next day. And the next. And the next.
By Week Two, you’ll be at the door. A few words later, you’ll be through it. You’ll know you’re there because the writing will feel different. Less like work, and more like watching a gloriously imperfect movie with cringe-worthy dialogue, heaps of confusing tangents, and moments of brilliance so delightful that you’ll want to scream.”
I know from the last round with Sven that that’s true. And I’m pretty excited about it.
October 31st, 2007 at 8:50 am
9000 words so far and still ticking! My evil day job is slowing me down some this week.
October 31st, 2007 at 8:53 am
3000 words yesterday (none Monday). The first couple weeks I seemed to be slow but steady consistently day after day. This past week I seem to be 3-5k words every writing session, but not on daily writing sessions.
The word count is way up because I’m writing two fresh new stories (10-15k each) instead of writing the book that’s on deadline. I am a slacker.
October 31st, 2007 at 9:02 am
Working on revisions and that’s progressing well. I also (unexpectedly) had a couple of new ideas that demanded notes be written, so I’ve got 2 new short stories plotted out and on the go as well. All in all, very happy with my progress.
Happy Halloween and a productive sweating-with-Sven wish to everyone!

Elen’s word count - Dreck…dreck, dreck, dreck, dreck, dreck…..DRRRRRRECK!
October 31st, 2007 at 9:12 am
Halloween’s my favorite day of the year! I’m not scared!
I think I’m all set and ready to start writing tomorrow!
(I’m also apparently feeling very !!!! today.)
October 31st, 2007 at 9:43 am
I took 3 days off after my revision, but I’m back on track, getting more than my promised 750 words each day. They may suck, of course.
October 31st, 2007 at 9:51 am
I am scared to sign in! Doing okay… writing quite a bit, but not always on the main WiP! Ah well, all words count for something, right?
October 31st, 2007 at 10:17 am
Man, I told myself I wasn’t going to even look at this site today until i made some progress.
I made some progress. Almost 2k today, which is a vast improvement over the past few days, but a plot kink was killing me and I couldn’t go anything until I’d fixed it.
I’m fixing like mad.
October 31st, 2007 at 10:45 am
I’ve got my notecards and character workups all set for tomorrow. I’m gearing up to begin writing for NaNo.
October 31st, 2007 at 10:45 am
Doing well. Overall total 14,800 and I am almost at 2K for today. At present pace I should be able to get between 3-5K for the day. I will have to slow down this weekend to work on edits due in before I leave for a signing next week, but I will be upping my goal word count to comply. My editor wants several thousand added to one scene and another scene added.
Off to write more:)
October 31st, 2007 at 10:46 am
If you count the fact that it took seven words for me to flail around to convey an idea that could have been done in one word, I wrote 27 words yesterday. I had worked 12 hours at both jobs and my ability to function when I got home last night was low to say the least. Today, I hope to get back into it.
The main thing I’m getting from Sven is the motivation to write every day regardless of work, life or any other distractions that might come my way. The word count may not always be what I’d aimed for but at least it’s forward motion. Otherwise I’d just ignore it and sleep. Ha, where the evil characters would dance through my subconscious.
October 31st, 2007 at 10:46 am
8500 words or so, but I don’t write on weekends so that’s only about one thousand words short of my goal (750/day, 5 days/week). I’m writing consistently, even if it’s only a couple hundred words a day, so I’m happy.
October 31st, 2007 at 10:48 am
I’m scared only to say that writing has been poor this week. Not the actual words I get done, but the fact that not many are getting down! It didn’t help that I had to work all yesterday and then came home to find that the power had gone out.
No words yet today because of Halloween parties, but the day is young.
I’ll be able to say I did more on Sunday.
October 31st, 2007 at 11:07 am
21,153 words since Oct. 15th. I *am* scared of my next project–I still don’t have the plot defined, but I’m starting NaNo tomorrow anyway.
October 31st, 2007 at 11:22 am
4281 on the Portland story…and I found some fab cake pictures for the NaNo…which I start tomorrow
October 31st, 2007 at 11:50 am
Whew! 5800 words in the last two days!
Which brings the total up to 19800…or 12800 if you minus the 7K I whacked out of a full for requested revisions.
October 31st, 2007 at 11:59 am
Done with the edits/revision of one novella - so one goal completed.
Started on plotting my Urban Fantasy YA novel.
wrote 5000 words so far.
October 31st, 2007 at 12:16 pm
different week, same report
I’ve lost focus on my writing and with school. I did get my pumpkins carved.
October 31st, 2007 at 12:29 pm
I did 2,201 words since Sunday. Frankly, I did them all on Monday night!
I finished my novella!! Since 70 days of sweat started I’ve written 8,923 words and finished my novella. I will now start continue on with my next one.
I think I love Sven!
October 31st, 2007 at 12:30 pm
oops - delete the word “start” from the second to last sentence.
October 31st, 2007 at 12:43 pm
I’ve done close to 3,800 words Monday and Tuesday. Sadly, I’ve just received some bad news about my mother-in-law, so writing is going to get blown out for the rest of the day because I’ll be doing what I can to help my husband through this after work. She’s still with us, but there’s been a diagnosis that’s going to turn eveything upside down.
Yeah, I need Sven nagging at me, because there are definitely going to be some rough times ahead.
October 31st, 2007 at 12:49 pm
Since Sunday I’ve added 6,866 words, making my total word count 25,007. My goal for this week is to make it half-way to 27,500 words. That’s less than 2k. I’m sure I can do it.
October 31st, 2007 at 12:50 pm
Since Sunday, I’ve been hard at work brainstorming and fleshing out the story and characters for my NaNo novel-to-be. I’ve also prepared a tentative outline. NaNo starts tomorrow, and at 12:01 a.m. I’m gonna get crackin’ on churning out those words!
October 31st, 2007 at 1:45 pm
I slipped a little over the past few days. Barely made my word count. I’ve been working on shorts. I NEED to get started on my novella
October 31st, 2007 at 1:45 pm
Been slow. Only at about 6k words. But finally got past my block, so hopefully the writing will pick up speed again.
October 31st, 2007 at 2:24 pm
Had to spend the last few days on process docs, a series bible and plotting so I’m now a bit behind overall.
11653 written
12000 goal
97% of goal
Might be one more day of plotting, then I’ll be trying to catch up.
October 31st, 2007 at 2:58 pm
I’m terrified. I’m still freaked out about not posting on Sunday. But Sven growled at him to stop being a chicken and just admit that I have no freakin’ clue how many words I’ve written because I stopped checking. I have just been working. Everyday and for right now, that is enough. Getting my butt in the chair and accomplishing something. Making something that wasn’t there the day before. (the last sentence sounds like the song from Beauty and the Beast—ahhh, living with children will rot your brain)
October 31st, 2007 at 3:53 pm
Only an extra 6200 words in the last week.
October 31st, 2007 at 5:05 pm
I’m not scared! I wrote a lot this week because I knew today would be mostly a lost cause. So…I’m at 9,019 for the week and I’m thisclose to being finished with my novella. Yay! Happy Halloween everyone!
October 31st, 2007 at 5:27 pm
Wednesday is here again…
I’m still sweating. My goal is somewhat different from last time, less measurable.
I am revising my WIP which doesn’t have a goal. Yup. You saw right. It doesn’t and I didn’t notice until I had… 50k+ words written.
I sat t…
October 31st, 2007 at 5:45 pm
Checking back in to say I wrote 2763 words today and finished the book.
I LOVE those moments. Now, revisions. And new book. Whew, Sven is tough!
October 31st, 2007 at 5:50 pm
This is my first check-in (I know, bad) and I’m ready to start the challenge with Nano. Once that’s over, I’ll keep writing!
October 31st, 2007 at 6:09 pm
Doing pretty good so far this week. 4669 words since Monday, which puts me a little ahead of my goal of 1500 words a day.
Best wishes to everyone starting Nano tomorrow!
October 31st, 2007 at 7:01 pm
After major set-backs in plotting last week, I’m finding my feet. 5100 M-W; 12,570 total.
October 31st, 2007 at 7:25 pm
No progress since Sunday; however, NaNo starts tomorrow and I have a personal deadline in three weeks. I must get crackin’.
October 31st, 2007 at 8:24 pm
I took today off since it was Samhain so I was busy celebrating the new year with family.
Other then that I’m on target for this week, and I submitted a piece in yesterday and am just finishing of another to be sent at the end of the week so all is going well.
My word count for the challenge so far is: 17,643
October 31st, 2007 at 8:50 pm
Eh, not so good. One of the habits I’m hoping Sven will help me break is binge writing, and I backslid a bit. I hope to make up some ground before Sunday’s check-in.
October 31st, 2007 at 9:07 pm
Okay, my progress is . . . no progress since last check-in. I was out of town Friday-Monday, then I haven’t been able to my mind away from my NaNo book, which I’ve been contemplating but not writing. So, now I’ll be out of the sweat challenge for 30 days while I NaNo, then back in full force starting December 1.
October 31st, 2007 at 9:28 pm
My total so far is 9780, and I’ve managed to work steadily (I’ve only missed one day each week).
October 31st, 2007 at 9:53 pm
5458 words written so far this week and 24 pages edited (which is like rewriting the whole darn thing for me).
Hope everyone has had a great week so far!
October 31st, 2007 at 9:56 pm
I’ve finally gotten into the swing of things, not only making my daily goals, but doing so in under an hour. If only I could do that 24/7. I’d have this thing done in no time! Halloween did put a damper on writing today, but I did manage a little–just under 200 wds.
October 31st, 2007 at 10:00 pm
I’m not scared. Since Sunday I wrote nearly 1300 words which is 300 more than my goal. But the best news the words keep coming. {grin}
Hope y’all had a Happy Halloween.
Take care………………..Wayne
October 31st, 2007 at 10:10 pm
Well I set myself a really high bar this week trying to get my week’s worth of words (7500) in before noon on Friday. I’m not on schedule for doing that (lots going on–one of those life interfered days), but I am on schedule for my regular goals. Was 50 words shy of reaching my daily goal today, but I did at least finish my scene. Hard to concentrate between all the bell ringing, barking dogs, “trick or treat!”, etc. Hopefully tomorrow will be more productive!
October 31st, 2007 at 10:45 pm
Last week’s funk is gone and I am BACK with 4972 words for the last 3 days (goal 1000 words a say).
I’ve got my WIP sorted now, and I’m feeling much better about the whole writing thing!
October 31st, 2007 at 11:00 pm
Not scared, maybe a little hyped up on sugar from the chocolate left over from the trick or treaters. I added 3920 words to my WIP bringing the total up to 26797 words. Not a huge amount, but I met my word count for each day.
I’ve gotten to a point where I can see the end on one WIP and have gotten a good start on a new one.
November 1st, 2007 at 2:05 am
Nearly missed tonight’s, well last night’s check-in. Hmmm…trying to figure this one out.
I actually added about 4000 words give or take a few since Sunday. I’m now at 32,346 total.
I’m doing NaNo this year. No clue what, however, and should’ve had something ready to upload four minutes ago.
Oh well. At least I’m technically able to start with this local time.
November 1st, 2007 at 4:22 am
Wrote a bunch more of the synopsis, about 2k more. It’s become less about having a usable synopsis and more about me finding interesting pieces of the plot that weren’t big enough for me to see right away.
November 1st, 2007 at 6:26 am
Still forward motion….301 words since Sunday, but I’ve also done some plotting and changed direction slightly. A new scene that wasn’t there before also popped up…so things are moving along, albeit slowly, but along.
November 1st, 2007 at 7:27 am
Well this week has been pretty good, I have accomplished more than I thought I would on Deception, The revision process is slow, especially when I am adding scenes, but I am getting somewhere. I have added nearly 3000 words since my last check in, and I am still adding. Things are going well and I am pleased.
November 1st, 2007 at 8:07 am
WIP total word count: 74,238.
This means I’ve gained 10,781 words since we started this round of 70Days.
I’m thrilled!
November 1st, 2007 at 9:39 am
Still noodling on my new outline, but I think I shall be ready to start the wordcount thing again soon.
November 1st, 2007 at 10:49 am
Why, yes I am scared! Last week I couldn’t figure out my characters internal motivation. But this week, I’m just freakin’ lazy. I have enough bullet points to get me to the 20K mark, but, as of today, I’ve only hit 4.8K. I’m still trying to hit 10K by Sat.
November 1st, 2007 at 10:50 am
As of the time I closed my laptop last night, I’m up 36,220 total from day one. I didn’t have as much time as I wanted to write when I was at my local RWA con last weekend and then I got sick so I’m happy I’ve made it all up and am still ahead.
I still need to do edits on a January project so I know there’ll be down time for that, but otherwise, I’m thrilled with my progress so far and knowing I’ll have to report my counts makes me buckle down and work instead of flitting around the internet.
November 1st, 2007 at 10:52 am
I’m still at about 4700. I’ve been super busy and have barely touched my computer shice sunday. I do have my nano story plotted and I’m going to start that today. After a pot of coffee….
November 1st, 2007 at 1:16 pm
I started Chapter 5 today. So I did accomplish my October goal, which was to have Chapter 1-3 done. I even got 4 in! La ti da!
November 1st, 2007 at 4:21 pm
The scary thing is my lack of progress…again.
November 1st, 2007 at 8:18 pm
I have a little over 33,000 words so far and have been averaging about 1000 a day. I had some really excellent days of well over 2000, though. Yesterday I only had 333, and my goal was 750. My bad. I’m not doing great today (11/1) either.
I’m tracking my progress on my blog at http://www.karenduvall.blogspot.com
Karen
November 1st, 2007 at 9:54 pm
I forgot to check in yesterday… I’m chugging along, though I keep forgetting to post my project totals on my blog.
I did have to go back and do a “restart” of this particular book because I’m not happy with where I was going — got hung up on something that I didn’t think was going to work, and really kinda messed up the story, so backing off and starting over again.
November 1st, 2007 at 11:32 pm
Sorry to check in so late. Halloween at a bakery can be a real pain in the cupcake!! Words since Sunday as of Wednesday 1578 which puts me about 800 words down on the week. Still catching up!
November 1st, 2007 at 11:35 pm
Right now I’m at 20,000 or so words total. So I am taking some time off this week and won’t be posting until Sunday, or perhaps Wednesday. My baby is having surgery, we have four visits to Children’s with him, and although I do take my career seriously, and agree with Jaci (I stopped watching most of my fav shows, or I just tape them) my yard looks like crap too, I barely see or talk to my friends either. My baby comes first, and his care and dealing with his recent diagnosis of CP is my first priority, with writing in-between. I will keep posting though and have no worries about getting it done. It just means I have to write until 2am, write and take less pee breaks, write in the car on the way to the hospital, thank God for laptops! and any other time I can fit in.
Good luck to everyone else this weekend. Keep yourselves going, and keep your chins up, and remember smile. For all the hours Sven asks you to sweat, just think… you have the power to show him what amazing writers you all are. That you are the best PIT STICK on the market!!!! That will keep you smelling sweet!
November 2nd, 2007 at 9:30 pm
Well this checkin was a sacrifice because I was working so hard on the WIP and I had to do Halloween with the kidlets.
I wrote 2 K on Mon, 2 K on Tues, and I think 2500 on Wed. I have no idea what my total is now but will go look before the next check in.
December 2nd, 2007 at 7:44 pm
I have no idea if I am posting this in the right place, and I cannot remember how much words that I posted last time, but am so far in the midst of 53,862 and will be adding a few more tonight too
I keep forgetting to post on Wednesday and Sunday
