The 70 Days of Sweat Writing Challenge - Round 2

We here at Sven Says Sweat invite you participate in round two of our Seventy Days of Sweat Writing Challenge. The challenge begins on Monday, October 15 and runs through Tuesday, January 15.

Yes, that’s 93 days. We’re giving you 23 days off to use as your personal holiday and religious circumstances require

For those participating in Nano who don’t want to start before 11/1, you can use the first 15 days to plan out your story, and then have 45 days to polish once November is over.

The goal is to have a completed manuscript at the challenge’s end.

The rules are simple. You agree to write from 750 to 1500 words a day (depending on your project needs) between the dates listed above. If you need to take off a day, you make up the pages another. Remember: You only have to do the writing for 70 days.

You don’t have to have a blog to participate, but we do want you to sign up below so everyone involved can get to know one another. And if you do have a blog, you can post the information there. Going public with your commitment is about owning it.

As far as reporting your progress, you’ll come back here each Wednesday and Sunday and post your total word count. Those of us sponsoring the challenge will be dropping by your blog (if you have one) and egging you on! And this year we have several co-sponsors who will also be checking up on you! (More on that later.)

The challenge is open to anyone writing in any genre, published and aspiring authors both. On the sidebar, you’ll find our logo if you’d like to put one on your blog. For now, let’s see a show of hands.

Who’s not afraid to sweat?

1) Sign-up on the javascript form below

2) Post a comment and tell us about your goals

(Use the email link beneath the blogroll on the sidebar if you need to be added there.)

  1. Angelle Trieste Says:

    Woohoo! I’m first again!

I want to write Q&S for NINE and finish the third draft. :)

  2. Cynthia Says:

My goal is a finished manuscript. I haven’t gone beyond that right now. I guess I know what I’ll be doing this weekend. I have four open projects, I really should narrow that listen down some and figure out what I’ll do after that.

  3. bettie Says:

My goal is to finish up my lingering WIPs and get a first draft of the WIP I plan to submit to a print publisher.

  4. Amanda Freeman Says:

I’m looking to finish and edit my WIP and start my next novel. I just have to decide which idea to develop.

  5. B.L. Foxxe Says:

Wow, this time I’m 4th! lol. Hmm…My goal? Finish between four to six current WIPs, revise them for submission, and see what else I can add in as time marches on. What I’m looking at this time is 100k, but it would be the grand total of the WIPs I’ve finished and revised for submission.

I won’t count those I haven’t completed the rough draft this time. Sound plausible? Dunno, but at least this time going in I know what my advantages are, and what my weaknesses are turning out to be.

As for NANO? Its part of the challenge. ^_^ no matter which month I actually start, however, I’m enjoying the notion of doing the October 15th though at first I hadn’t liked the prospect.

Ah how things change upon reflection.

    Grrr…

    Note to self: Stop rambling!

  6. B.L. Foxxe Says:

Well, I would have been 4th if not for the rambles, lol! I’ll stick with fifth.

  7. Merry Says:

Well, between Sven & NaNo I’m hoping to have 2 completed novellas; a number of short stories and maybe some flash as well! *If* I get those completed, with time to spare, then I’ll re-write the first 3 chapters of an urban fantasy that’s languishing in a notebook under the desk.

Try, try again and all that!

  8. Silke Says:

    Wahoo!
Not sure which one I’m going to work on…. but I’m here :)

  9. Merry Says:

Oh, yeah. Actual quantifiable goals. Erm, I’m aiming for 1.5 - 2K per day over NaNo, but will probably dial it back to 1-1.5K after that. There will be a couple of birthdays and visitations in there so I’m hoping to bank some of the word count for when I’m unable to write.
    So, if I’m thinking Courier, that’s c. 8 pages a day maximum.

Guess I’m going to have to plan a bit better than last time!

    ^o_o^

  10. Jane Says:

    I am totally ready.

  11. Jane Says:

Okay, I’ve got signed up with Mister Linky again, and everything is smooth. I am really looking forward to the challenge. I’ve got a whole new book plotted on a storyboard and this one is romantic and longer. Thanks again for the inspiration.

  12. Caro Says:

I’m going build on the what I did during the previous challenge — I’m going to finish revisions on the category (in anticipation of Harlequin asking for the full manuscript of the partial they currently have), do a second draft on my romantic suspense and send out at least five queries on that by the end of the challenge.

All this and holidays with the relatives. Yup, I’m crazy. :)

  13. Sandy l Says:

Like Caro, I plan on building what I wrote during the previous challenge. I hope to do at least 700 words a day. And also am going to try not to back track. This weekend, I’m doing research for my story! Thanks so much for doing this again.

  14. Jen Says:

My goal for the second challenge? See, the first challenge was awesome, and it got me writing. But I also had my struggles.

So, my goal for the second one is to have at minimum 1 completed novella (in the range of 30 of 45 k words), and to start on a second one, with the 70 (ok, really 93) days.

  15. Kimberly Claire Says:

I had to sit out the last challenge, but watched the progress of the other sweaters with hope and envy. this time, I’m in. My goal is to finish the dreaded query letter and synopsis for my completed fantasy romance, and to finish the first draft of the contemporary romance that I started a few weeks ago. Since determining a daily word count requires math, and it’s still early in the day yet, I’ll have to calculate that later.

  16. Amy Ruttan Says:

My goal is to finish three projects. Finishing off one and completing two more. I don’t know what they are yet, but I think I’m going to up the anti a bit. Last time I did the challenge I only wrote to 65k, I think this time I’m going to bump it up to 75k. I am taking part in Nano, but for the first part of Sven I’ll work on one that needs finishing and Nano I will start anew. Woo I am so excited.

  17. Ann P Says:

I’ve been having trouble getting the last book of my trilogy off the ground. I recently had the idea of telling the story from a different POV, so I’m hoping that will help. If this turns out like the other two books (or like the related fiction blog that I turned into a POD book), this draft will end up about 150K words, to later be cut ruthlessly to something more sane. But my goal is just to see it through to completion and write something every day, without fail. :-)

  18. Seanachi Says:

I’m very excited about doing this 2nd round. I was sort of an unofficial participant in the last round and did really well, which is giving me the confidence to sign up for real this time! I’ve got an entirely new project called Til Death Do Us Part that I’m hoping to finish a draft of by the end of this 70 Days. Time to sweat!

  19. Michelle B Says:

I’m almost done with my character sheets and my plot outline! Woot! I’m excited to join the sweating challenge with you. I had to watch last time and it looked like you guys had so much fun!

So, my goal is to get “T” done by Jan 15th!
Excited and thrilled to be here!
    Michelle

  20. Jenny C. Says:

Main goal is to finish the MS (which will probably end up at something like 120K) and then start revisions to trim it back (to 90-100K or so) and get it ready for submission after the first of the year.

Quantitatively, that’s 20-40K new words, plus rewrites.

  21. AJ O'Donovan Says:

OK! i’m in for a second round.
I’m going to finish the novel i started for the first one (it’s at 36k, i want it to be 60k) which is the first in a series, and work on a novella length story (is at 750 words, i want to get it to 35k) AND if i have time in between uni, possibly start the second book in the series, or maybe the third (both to be at roughly 60k too)
    wish me luck!

  22. Lynn Says:

I’m ready for round two! I have four projects I want to work on…finish the paranormal I started during the first Sweat challenge, two short stories, and start a new story that’s been brewing in my mind for a while now. Total should be around 60K, maybe more.

  23. Alison Kent Says:

I’ll be working on my next Brava, a story connected loosely by shared characters to the one I turned in in May. It’s a 90K - 100K word book, so I’m looking at around 1250 - 1450 words a day!

  24. Nicole Gestalt Says:

I’m up for the next round and I’ve got so many things I’ve planned for this one.

Finish my present piece that I’m working on (needs to be between 5-18k I’m thinking it will probably end up being around 10k)

Start and complete a 10k piece for January
Start and complete a 5-10k piece for December

Then there’s a number of other pieces dotted around all roughly 2k

I’m going to write at least 1000 words a day and then once I’ve done the most urgent manuscripts I want to continue work on some other pieces I’ve got going and also a story that I’ve been mulling over for a few months.

I’m very excited to get started!

  25. Nicole Reising Says:

Hi Everyone! I’m so excited to be participating this time. I have a paranormal ST I’ve started but then had to stop working on when I quickly discovered I needed to revamp and do some more plotting and such. I want to do that and then write the book ending about 100K. Considering much of the 30K already written is going to end up being used mostly as notes… I’ll easily have 70K to hit. :-) Good luck to everyone!

    Cole

  26. Susan B. Says:

I’m not sure about a lot of things at the moment. I’ve got a lot going on and I’m not sure about finishing a whole manuscript (although I did really well last time and 93 days!!! is very reassuring). It’s my crazy busy time of the year and I’ve been going back and forth on whether or not to do this, but what I decided is that I just want to keep writing. I liked the habit of writing every day, and even if I can’t be really serious right now, I want to keep my hand in. I have a few ideas and I haven’t decided for certain what to work on, so I will probably be outlining at first and jumping into Nano on 11/1. Ha. We’ll see how that goes. Thanks for a new challenge. Talk to you soon.

  27. Carrie Lofty Says:

I want my WIP rough to be done by Christmas, so this is awesome timing. It’s a 100K historical, and I have approx 12K written. Good luck, everyone!

  28. Lia Says:

I’m contracted to write a novella for Cobblestone Press, so I need to do that. I also want to finish my futuristic romance, Vanished, which is about half-done now. These should put me right at 70K.

  29. Vanessa Says:

    Hello there!
I had also been watching the last contest with an anticipation for the next one so I could join in the fun :)

Goal: Finishing my effing manuscript at 900 words a day. I’m 30K into it and if I write one more random, non-outlined chapter, I may scream. Anyone have a task-oriented muse they could lend me, for realz?

Thanks for having this contest–I am stoked!

  30. Joely Says:

I’m definitely in and will shoot for a min of 70K. My projects are:

ANTs, contemporary romance novella, 30-40K (already started) and
NSR, fantasy with some level of romance TBD, 80K (worldbuilding needed)

I might assign NSR to NaNoWriMo, if I get the worldbuilding done in time to kick into gear on 11/1.

  31. carly Says:

I need to finish my WIP which I’ll be referring to as LC and I neeed a kick in the butt every day to do it.

  32. Shiloh Walker Says:

    I’m in!

Chains, a set of three interconnected stories, erotic romance. Currently @ 15k, Goal, 90K.

    Share & Share Alike, @ 30k, goal 90k.

  33. deniz Says:

Main goal is to finish the MS - I need 51K, or about 750 words a day - wow, less than last time!! Maybe I can do this!

  34. MG Braden Says:

I’m in. I had to bow out of the other one due to some circumstances, but I have two novella’s due so I need to get crackin’!

  35. Thomma Lyn Says:

I’m in for this go around — I’ll be doing Sweat concurrently with NaNo, so I’m not sure exactly how to quantify my goals yet except to say that I intend to write 50,000 words during the month of November, and then either start a new one after that one or expand the NaNo novel to make it longer until Sweat is over in January.

And I still need to revise the rough draft I completed for First Sweat.

I’m kind of figuring out my goals as I go along this time — but I hope to have at least one new rough draft completed and the rough draft from first Sweat revised.

Thank you so much, Sven and Sponsors!

  36. Wayne (aka Trybble) Says:

My goal is to write 2,000 words per week, so I know I won’t be finishing a book this time around. But I think the challenge helps me to focus on my need to write.

I’m working on two 90k word stories right now: Magic Touch and Double O Blonde. Both are romantic suspense, with a lot of action and a touch of SciFi/paranormal. Magic Touch could benefit from some additional development, as it was originally targeted at Blaze, while Double O Blonde still needs a lot of development work (I still don’t have an ending {laughs}).

Thanks for hosting the challenge and take care…………….Wayne

  37. HelenKay Says:

I have a 30k word Christmas novella that will come out in Oct. ‘08 but is due Dec. 15th of this year. Then I’m going to do 50k words of a new romantic suspense novel. And, somewhere in there I’ll celebrate the holidays…

Welcome back everyone and hello to the newbies!!!

  38. Emily Ryan-Davis Says:

I don’t know what my goal is, yet - this is an impulse join. :) I’ll think about it and check back!

  39. Pamela Bolton-Holifield Says:

Yay! Another challenge! I want to finish my WIP Lost in Love and get a really good start on my next novel, a sequel to Lost in Love called Lost in Shadow. I am still saying 1000 words per day. Didn’t make it every day last time, but i am determined this time!

  40. Larissa Says:

My goal is to finish book 2 in my Demon E.R. series. I have to write around 85K, and already have a about 15K, so approximately 1,000 words/day. Plus, Stephanie and I have a Sydney Croft (ACRO book 4) proposal due on December 15, so another 10K words for that!

  41. Jo Says:

I have to finish up my current wip by Oct 29, then write another Blaze and finish my ST partial. I’m pumped!

  42. Jess Says:

I’m not entirely sure what my goal is - I started a new WiP and I’d really like to finish it - quick contemp thing - and edit the project from Round 1, and also start the sequel to it. That’s a lot. I don’t nearly expect to finish it all between now and then (not with a trip to Kenya looming), but I would still like to participate - mostly to keep building up my discipline - I had a bad spell during Round 1 and while I made up the pages, I do want to be more consistent. So I want to work on disciplining myself to write a project (keep writing daily) and also to edit, hopefully at the same time. O.o

  43. Elizabeth Says:

Jane made me do it. (g) No, actually, I need this challenge. Historical romance, first draft around 90,000. I have some written already, but am revising them (ie: rewriting), so word count starts at 0. I want to do 1000 a day. Fingers crossed.

  44. Round 2 « Hunting High and Low Says:

[…] up for the second round of the Seventy Days of Sweat writing challenge: […]

  45. Kelley Nyrae Says:

My goal is to finish a novella and to get at least 50% of my novel complete.

  46. Renee Lynn Scott Says:

For those of you who don’t know, I did the first round, signed in as fairie then switched to Christina, I have decided to use my pen name. Sorry for the confusion.

On to the fun stuff. I’m going to start on Liam’s Angel. I’ve been plotting it, but haven’t started writing yet.

Good luck to everyone and most of all have fun!

  47. Annie Says:

my goal is to finish the book I started the last challenge so I wish to write 750 to 1000 words a day.

  48. Patty L. Says:

I am finally in the end stages of the wip that I was working on in the last challenge, so if by chance it’s not done by the beginning of the new contest I will be working on that. I will also be working on a contemporary romance for the challenge and it will be approximately 65- 70 words.

I wish everyone luck and inspiration and thank you to our wonderful leaders.

  49. Emily Ryan-Davis Says:

Ok, I decided upon my goals. I have three active WIPs - a contracted book, a short story w/ an Oct 31 deadline, and a short story with no deadline, but I started it and I want it finished, at least in rough draft form.

I’d like to finish all three before Jan 1, but I’m willing to take advantage of 1/1-1/15 as post-holiday WIP cleanup. :)

Projected word count for all three combined is 50-60k. I know, it’s only about 858 words a day. I’m a wimp, sue me. :) Lifestyle no longer allows for the NaNo pace.

  50. SandieH Says:

Okay I took the bait!! I signed up for my first NaNoWriMo and someone on one of my groups posted about this site. So here I am, I have two WIP that I would like to get finished or at least close to being finished before NaNo so what better way then to challenge myself even more. Thanks for allowing me to participate.

  51. Rebecca Airies Says:

I’m signing up again. I absolutely loved what the first Sweat did for my productivity and am looking forward to this one.

For my total goal this Sweat, I’m going to be aiming for 85-90k.

I’ll be working on Lisia’s Journey from last challenge, that story’s still going. I’ll also be working on a contemporary paranormal that I’m just getting the details fleshed out for that. I’ve also got two other WIP that I want to get back to. They’ll probably each be 30k or so. I should hit my goal with those four.

  52. Are you ready to sweat? « Trivial Pursuits Says:

[…] second 70 Days of Sweat challenge is going to start here shortly.  I managed to meet my goals, and then some, so yeah, […]

  53. Joy Renee Says:

I’m in again. I will be working with the same story world as last time. The work I did during round one helped me figure out that it was most definitely not a single novel. But the story arcs of several of the characters are so entwined they keep wandering in and out of each other’s stories so I need the freedom to roam among them which NaNo doesn’t give.

I am still planning to participate in NaNo concurrently with 70 Days if I can settle on a story arc for which I’ve not yet done any substantial scene work but is (or can be) thoroughly prepped by 11/1. Which is the rub, if I stay inside the same story world. Because of of the work I did for round one and the last three NaNoWriMo few of the potential stand-alone novels qualify on both points.

My main goal is to add something of value to this story world every day. Sometimes that will be narrative or dialog that can be quantified by word count. Not always. Though I would like my average to be 700 wpd.

As for a completed rough-draft–that depends on what I do for NaNo. I could conceivably complete one of the novels already in progress by Jan 15 if I didn’t have to commit 50K to a brand new project.

  54. Larissa Ione - Blog Says:

[…] 70 Days of Sweat starts up on October 15 and runs through January 15 — which is more than 70 Days, but there are extra days built in because of the holidays. […]

  55. Lara Rose Says:

Ugh. I’m weak. I always sign up for these things with stars in my eyes and big plans and then I never follow through.

I need a Sven to kick my butt and I need to actually and finally finish what I’ve started, so I’m in. And I’m gonna be writing.

My goal is the three-novella trilogy that’s been poking me in the brain all year.

  56. Marissa Says:

I’m in. And this time I have to stick to it because I’ve got a self-imposed deadline to meet. I’m currently at 9,200 and would like to finish between 80-85K for the first draft. So I’m setting a goal of 75K to write during this challenge. I’m pretty sure I can meet that goal… I’m going to try my damnedest… not like last time. :-P

  57. Valerie Everhart Says:

For this challange, I’ll be writing a 100K word romantic suspense, THE SHADOWS OF DARKNESS, that I have spent the last month outlining. I’m shooting for about 1700 words a day, because invariably I lose a day once in a while with things getting in the way. I hope to have enough momentum established with that many days f 1700 words to fall back on. (fingers crossed).

  58. Jen P Says:

My goal will be to reach 40k. I know that sounds utterly pathetic (and it is!), but I’m not sure how much I’ll be able to write between school and work.

The first part of the challenge will be revising Dien’alean, the manuscript I finished in the previous challenge. While I’m doing that, I will be working on another story: A title-less adventure taking place in the same fictional world as Dien’alean. Word length: 75/80k

    Good luck to everyone!
    Jen

P.S. I was known as “Cora N” in the previous challenge.

  59. Melanie Anderson Says:

I don’t have a word goal at this time, but I do want to get my WIP past the first two pages. :oP I’ll start small with the 750 words a day and see where I go. I definitely need this kind of motivation though!

    I hope it works!

  60. Vega Says:

    Hi,

Pleasure to meet you all (hi Sandie). I’m in the habit of stopping and starting writing projects and end up loosing focus and momentum. I joined thinking this might help me to develop some consistent writing time. I work well with external deadlines, not so well with personal ones.

Please do egg me on! Fear of public humiliation is also a motivator. I know I’ll kick myself later for saying that.

I’m going to start with 750 words a day. Once NaNoWriMo starts I’ll amp it up to 1500 words.

    Good luck everyone!
    Vega

  61. Karen Erickson Says:

I missed the sign up last time so I’m definitely sweating this go around! I’m excited, I actually have a few projects I want to work on and this is the perfect way to keep me motivated. A novella for sure and a full length that I’d like to finish.

    Good luck everybody! :)

  62. Jaci Burton Says:

I have a single title for Berkley Heat due Jan 1st, so Riding Danger which I have about 5K done so far. 80K on Riding Danger, plus a proposal for a novella for Berkley and a proposal for a Bantam single title both due Jan 15th that I’ll need to work on too at 10k each. Ack. I need to get busy!

  64. Mel-O-Drama Says:

My goal is to finish my book due to HarperCollins in January and book 2 is due later in the year. I want to finish book 1 by December and halfway through a rough draft of book 2 by january…and you guys are gonna get me there! :)

  65. PortiaDaCosta Says:

I want to finish a novella by 1st November, and get a nice little chunk of my next full length, which will probably be due next April… No strict wordcounts… I just need the incentive to do something every day.

  66. Dixiebelle Says:

I’ve heard great things about this challenge. My goal is to get my historical romance revised and ready to submit to an editor who is interested in seeing it.

  67. Anna Adams Says:

I need to finish revisions on my SuperRomance and then finish the one that’s due in January, so I’ll commit to at least 750 words/day. But I’m sunk if I don’t do more!

  68. Kim Amburn Says:

I plan on finishing wip and jump right into wip #2 around mid-November!

  69. Shelli Stevens Says:

Okay I’m trying this again! And promise to do better this time :) Though I didn’t do too sucktastic last time!

Most importantly goal is to write 22k and finish my contemporary romance. Of course I’m doing that now so by the time this starts, I’ll probably be down to about 15k left to do.

And then…write 40k of another single title of my choice. :)

  70. Maria Geraci Says:

Great idea! Hopefully it will motivate me to get my newest wip off the ground and finished.

  71. Loribelle Hunt Says:

I’m in! I have three novellas to wrap up and a category length I’ve been planning. I’m aiming for 1500 words a day.

  72. Loribelle Hunt Says:

[…] doing this? The second 70 Days of Sweat challenge is running from Oct 15-Jan 15. There are holiday days built into this schedule obviously. […]

  73. Susanna Carr Says:

I have three projects to complete. A single title and two short stories.

  74. Stephanie Staton Says:

This time around I hope to reach my goal. I am also doing Nano again this year. I need to finish my novella so I can be ready for a new project.

  75. Erin Thompson Says:

My goal: complete the second book in my series. I’ve got most of the plot figured out (makes it easier). 90,000 words.

    I’m ready to sweat :)

  76. Stephanie Secrest Says:

I’m with Emily–I’m an impulse joiner too. :)

I have no idea what I’m going to work on. I’d like to get back to my SF novel or do a 30K piece, but that depends on how my GH push goes, so I’m probably not going to start on this until November 1.

  77. Jordan Says:

My goal is to average 1000+ words a day in order to finish a rough draft of my second single title for Tor by the end of November. I’m currently sitting at 5530 words and have the book roughly charted out. It’s officially due in March and needs to be 90 to 100K. I also want to chart out the third book in the series, so that I’m ready to start writing it once I finish book two.

Wow, this sounds like something fun. I’m in. I’ll be working on 2 WIPs for this

  80. Caroline N. Says:

My goal is just to write! I have something I’ve started some years ago and I really want to finish it. I hope this will motivate me to do that.

  81. Sophisticated Writer Says:

By the way, I did finish my goal in the first round of SDoS (but because I had endless trouble with my ISP I was offline for weeks and couldn’t report my progress). So here I am again :D

I’m still in the brainstorming/plotting stage. My current WIP is a mix of women’s fiction and romance, so far. My goal is approx. 80,000 words.

I suppose that’s something like 1200 words a day or so.

    Let the challenge begin.

Thanks so much Sven and sponsors!

  82. Sophisticated Writer Says:

Oops…I mean since it’s 93 days this round, my goal would be 1000 words per day or so if I write everyday and get two weeks off :)

    I’ll manage.

  83. Keziah Hill Says:

I want to finish a 25k novella then do a substantial amount of a full length.

  84. Elle M Says:

I can’t believe I’m actually doing this! *breathes into paper bag*

My name is Elle, and I’m working on a romantic urban fantasy involving magic, fairies, and a science experiment gone terribly wrong.

I have a mess on my hands right now, but in the mess I’ve got a few shiny elements I’m going to lift, tuck, and make beautiful over the next 70 days. I’ve spent the last few weeks brainstorming, criticizing, assimilating…you get the picture ;) and I have my path carved out for me. Let’s see if I can follow my own instructions. Anyway, now that I have that done, I’m ready to write, baby!

    Best of luck to everyone!!!

    Elle

  85. Laura Armstrong Says:

Trying some new tactics. I’m sick of the guilt thing, and it doesn’t work anyway. So my goal is to write a paragraph a day. On anything. That’s all. One paragraph.

So if at the end of this, I have 93 paragraphs, I will have accomplished my goal, no?

The trick is going to be editing these 1000 word paragraphs eventually .

  86. Elle M Says:

Oops. I left out the ‘v’ when I posted my name. Here’s my real link, come say hi! http://ellevmurphy.livejournal.com/

  87. Shawn Hansen Says:

I’m shooting for between 1,000 and 1,200 words per day to get through two story ideas I’ve been plotting.

One’s a short (8,000 to 10,000), and the other I want to draft at around 50,000–you know, NaNo sized.

In between, I have several contests and short story submissions I’ve mapped out, so it’s going to be an interesting juggling act.

  88. Ann Says:

My goal for this time around is 750 words a day. Each day. I had to bow out last time (trying to run three summer reading programs in addition to other duties made for a very tiring summer). I’m not even going to worry about if I finish my WIP, I just want to get back in the daily writing habit.

  89. Melissa W Says:

I want to finish my fifth book by December. It’ll total 50-55k words. Also I’m doing revisions on my second book and need it to hit 40k words. That’s about 6k more than I have at the moment. Can’t say I’m completely ready, but it’ll help me keep my writing in the forefront of my mind.

  90. Teresa Bodwell Says:

I’m juggling 3 different manuscripts right now. My goal is to have one complete by January and good partials of the other two.

    This sweating will be perfect.

  91. catie Says:

Haven’t decided if I’m going to use the challenge to work on my young adult paranormal or two to three erotic novellas…I’m leaning towards the latter.

  92. Leila Brown Says:

I think this is a great challenge and look forward to participating. I want to finsih two projects one called The Dark Tarot and the sequel to The Diamond Heart which is releasing soon from Cobblestone Press.

    Leila Brown

  93. Silvie Virginia Says:

I don’t have an idea as to what I’m going to write yet, but I’m excited to begin! Although I don’t have a lot of free time what with school, I think I’ll be able to accomplish this. And even if I don’t, it’ll be a nice challenge.

  94. Sara Says:

I want to finish the book I’m writing at the moment which needs about 15k more words and then I’ll go onto my second which I plan to be around 60-70k in total.

  95. Contessica Ryans Says:

Ok, so I need the focus and a challenge should do the trick . My goal is to finish my first main stream novel - The Past and the Present which only has about 10k done (give or take a little) I want to get it to 100k eventually but for now I will be happy with about 50k, I am doing a completely different project for NANO as well and a few other projects I am working on currently.

My daily writing goal is going to be 2k - this seems reasonable to me.

  96. Sara Thacker Says:

I have two books I need to write. Both are with characters from Coiled Revenge. Each are around 90,000. I’ll start with the one about Bradley. First, I have to finish my Sci-fi that I’m writing under my Sara York name.

  97. jenifer Says:

I’m in again. I’d really like to finish the WIP that I started during the last challenge, but I’ve been struggling with it. I’ll try that, though. 70k should be a good goal to get me to the end.

  98. Tracy W Says:

I’d really like to finish my first novel, anything else after that would be a bonus.

  99. Madelynne Ellis Says:

I’m hoping to finish the first draft of a new novel, assuming I ever manage to come up with an idea that isn’t barking mad.

  100. Marilyn Brant Says:

I have a novel idea that I’ve plotted (very basically), and I’ve wanted to start it for a few months now–so this challenge is perfect! I need to write about 1,200-1,300 words for the 70 days to reach my 90,000 goal. Wishing everyone here good luck with their projects :)!

  101. Jennifer Snyder Says:

my goal is to finish the my WIP and have something that is coherent and entertaining and not drive me up a wall.

    i think i’m 100 . . . awesome!

  102. P.S. Says:

Ok. 750/day. Totally doable. I may either spread the grand total over two WIPs OR focus on my YA WIP and try to get a first draft completed in this time period. Hmm.

    Good luck to us all!

  103. Jeanne Says:

I read somewhere that people don’t fail, they just stop trying. So here I am to make another effort at writing my novel. My goal is to write every day and have a complete first draft by the end of this challenge. Thanks in advance for all the help and encouragement!

  104. Barbara Burnham Says:

I’m in again. My goal is 90,000 words for my current WIP. That comes out to approx. 1,300 words a day. :-)

  105. Michael Woodhead Says:

Trying this once again. I signed up for Nano, too, but getting on to the site is so slow and frustrating, and I also don’t want to wait another month to start.
    :-)

  106. Mary Says:

This is my first time…. I’m looking forward to it!!

  107. Elizabeth Lance Says:

Okay, so Elle M. talked me into this, I am still not sure how! I have so much going on I don’t know how I will find the time, but I’ll do it!

I have a Historical romance that needs revising and polishing as well as a contemporary that needs to be completed and polished. So that is my goal for this challenge.

    Good luck everyone! :D

  108. Kristi Says:

I’m in .. did this the first time around and really had good results. So, I’m going to be revising the ms from my first 70 Days and writing a new ms at the same time.

    Good luck everyone!!

  109. Marianne LaCroix Says:

I am in the process of working on a novel, so this is perfect. I should be well into it by the time this starts.

It is a historical erotic romance featuring pirates. Is anyone really surprised at that? LOL

  110. jude Says:

If at first you don’t succeed …..

  111. Cynnara Says:

Count me in. I’m gearing up and needing this to get me back on my regular writing schedule after a year off recovering from the biggest breakdown in my life. I’m so glad I found this site. Thanks be to DreamForge.

  112. vanessa jaye Says:

erm…. 19th time is a charm? ::shame:: I’ve been really REALLY struggling with the writing. Don’t know what it is, nothing holds my attention/interest, same goes for reading too. Anywhooo I’ve had a story idea (series perhaps?) floating around in my head for years. I”m going to take this week to flesh it out. And tomorrow I’m buying a note book and writing this one out in longhand. I really need to break the online procrastination habit.

  113. Jaye Wells Says:

This is the perfect kick in the pants for me as I attempt a genre switch. I’ll be writing a women’s fiction novel. My goal is 1,500 words a day.

  114. Kalen O'Donnell Says:

First time trying this - my goal is to have a completed manuscript done by the end, approx. 90,000 words. So that’s around 1,200 a day, right? Yeah, I can do that!

  115. Dawn Says:

Woo, I’ve never done anything like this before. I’m joining to get myself into the habit of writing every day. I will be writing a fantasy novel and am committing to 1000 words a day. By the end of the challenge, I want to have a complete first draft of my novel - at this stage, the length doesn’t matter to me so much as being able to type ‘the end’!

  116. Tess Harrison Says:

I signed up for Nano this year, but that was before I realized the story I’m currently working on needs a major rewrite. I need to finish this story by the end of the year. So I decided to join in. That is if I can do a rewrite here as part of the challenge.

  117. Jennifer Shirk Says:

    ALL RIGHT. I’m in.
    I CAN do this… I can do this… I can do this…

    I could use a good sweat. :)

  118. Shannon Stacey Says:

I missed the first round, and had major Sven-envy, so here I am.

I’m going to finish the third book in my Devlin Group series, which has the incredibly original working title of DG3. I have 70k left to write, so my goal is 1000 words a day. (I love easy math.)

  119. H.H. Says:

I’m in! I missed out on this last time b/c I didn’t learn about it until after the fact.

I’m joining this time anonymously b/c I want to see how far I can go on my own w/o outside influence from any friends or family who might would stumble across this by accident. ;)

    Good luck everyone!

  120. Nandini Says:

Whoa, never heard of this one. Such perfection. I was going to try and pick between one short project and one long project for NaNoWriMo, but now there’s no need!

So my goals for the following months:
    1. Fantasy novel for 70 Days
    2. Thriller for NaNo
    3. Meanwhile, continue growing a baby inside me who, if my continuous nausea is anything to go by, literally hates my guts. GAH. At least I can look forward to morning sickness ending sometime in Nov? Fingers crossed.

  121. Eliza Says:

So I’m signing up again since I totally punked out last time. I’m working on a YA urban fantasy. Aiming for between 900 and 1000 words a day.

    Good luck to everyone!

  122. Melani Blazer Says:

My muse has ADHD, so I’m gonna toss out what I WANT to do….
I want to finish my urban fantasy/scifi type romance. I’ve been working on it long-hand, so I’ve no idea of “starting” word count, but I anticipate it’s less than 15K and goal is 80-100K.

  123. suzy vitello Says:

This is just the kick in the keester I need. I want to turn The Secret to Love into a finished mss. 1200 words a day to get that puppy in the 85,000 range.

  124. Angeleque Ford Says:

It may seem like a lot but I had so much fun and already have my calenda set and planned out.

My goals for this round -

Plot out and work on my Urban Fantasy YA novel

Start the novella series (3 books) I’ve plotted out -30K each

Final polish on my Brava novella - done @ 30K

Work on 12K short for January, a 10K short.

Work on 50K book proposal for December

    Edit/Revise a 20K & 25K novella.

  125. Flava by Angeleque Says:

70 Days of Sweat Writing Challenge - Round 2

It’s back. And I signed up for it. I loved this challenge so much the first time. And it was one of my most productive times. I couldn’t help but sign up again.
    Some basic info:
We here at Sven Says Sweat invite you participate in round two…

  126. Alexa Silver Says:

I’m in! I expect to be working on the following projects.

    1) Shape-shifter erotic romance (30K done of 60K)
    2) Contemporary menage erotic romance (1500 done of 25K)
    3) Shape-shifter erotic romance (16K of 30K done)

That should round out to just about 70K!

  127. Gina Marina Says:

Totally flaked on the last challenge but I haven’t given up hope and even started two more ms. I’ve got four WIPs now and want one of them ready for a 11-15 deadline!

  128. Stephanie Tyler - Military Romance Author Says:

[…] motivation of the Sven Challenge we did this past summer, we’re doing it again! Details are here, and we’re giving plenty of time for holidays and […]

  129. Jane Says:

I need to finish a novella and want to also complete a new cata romance. Most importantly, I need to develop consistency and ditch procrastination. Experts say it takes 21 days to form a habit, hopefully I can master it in 70.

  130. Annie O Says:

Need a good kick in the seat of my pants to this book done!

    Annie O

  131. Tami Holden/Brothers Says:

    Yeah!!! Inspiration!!!!

    I’m looking forward to this.

    Tami

  132. Marie Peck Says:

Hey Jane! Thanks for the invite. My goal here is to finish a novella and a cata romance. You’d think Jane and I are the same person because we’re both needing to let go of the procrastination part of our lives. It’s a very sad state I’ve let myself sink into.

So that’s that, On to bigger and better things!! Good luck everyone.

  133. Rhien Elleth Says:

Nice alternative to NaNo! I like the holidays off and longer time to get a higher word count. Not sure I’ll get the projected 130K done, but I just might (it would be about 2K per writing day, and that’s my average.) Dark fantasy/romance, and this will be the sequel to a novel I’m currently shopping to agents.

  134. Karen Duvall Says:

Eeek! I’m making the commitment. Yikes, this is a big deal for me. I’m a self-employed graphic designer and I never know from day to day what my work schedule is going to be, so my writing time is constantly usurped by my clients. Aargh! So this will be a push for me to get my book done, regardless. Yes! I need this! NaNo was totally intimidating so I never tried it, but I can handle this. Yes, I can. Really.

    Signed The Queen of Procrastinators
    (aka Karen Duvall)

  135. Dawn Montgomery Says:

Goal: Complete 10 WIPs (novella and short length). That leaves me little time for polish, but I can do that after the fact. Can it be done? It had better!

  136. Kim Knox Says:

5 wips, 4 in the process of being written, one brand spanking new *gulp*

    Kim

  137. Michelle Hasker Says:

I’m in again. Just gotta think about what I’m making my commitment. My original Nano goal was to complete one of my Rendezvous stories (unplotted yet) and then I debated finishing the last three of my Witchy Woes stories (20k each minimum.) When I figure out what I’m doing I’ll put up my goal.

  138. Ann K Says:

Longtime NaNo-er, but unable to participate this year and this is a great alternative/addition, and well timed–I wasn’t able to do the first one.

I’m trying to finish up a YA novel. I have 30-50k left on it, so I’m going to go for the 750/day goal for now, and if I finish that up ahead of time, I may start on the sequel if I’m still jonesing for that universe.

  139. Charlene Teglia Says:

I need to write 2K a day until the end of Dec. to hit my goals. Which includes now, so I’m sweating already.

  140. Alan O'Brien Says:

Okay… I’M IN! My goal is to stitch together the novel I started in NaNoWritMo about… 8 years ago? Sweat pumps are ON, and I’m laying in a stock of hydration materials. This time it’s for real.

P.S. It isn’t cheating if I use handwritten material from more than a year ago, right? Right???

  141. Siobhan Says:

I’m so bad at forcing myself intovthw writing chair after a long day at work. I’m hoping this ‘intervention’ will get me into writing a good women’s fic novel.

  142. Val Griswold-Ford Says:

I’m in. I’m doing NaNo as well, so this will give me the kick in the butt I need to finish my plotting for that.

Novel is tentatively titled “Descent into Darkness” - it’s a dark fantasy companion novel to my first series.

  143. Vernieda Says:

After an extended writing hiatus, I’ve decided to give this a go for a dark fantasy idea I’ve been kicking around for the past couple months.

  144. Heather Rae Scott Says:

I missed the last one, so here I am. I too had Sven envy. My goals? To write at least one 60k book and possibly another. I’m just hoping to get myself on a rigid schedule again and this should do it.

  145. Heather Rae Scott » Got Sven? Says:

[…] am I talking about? Why, the Seventy Days of Sweat Writing Challenge. The challenge begins on Monday, October 15 and runs through Tuesday, January […]

  146. Jenna Wallace Says:

My goal is 1,000 words a day. My current WIP had a major conflict flaw, so I went back and re-work it, ie a whole new 1st chapter. Which I love and works much better. After, I freaked out because I suddenly felt like I didn’t know the main character anymore or how to weave the new with the old. But I am going to stop being a chicken and pick up the threads and move on. And finish it. So someday I can work on something else.

  147. Maura Says:

I’m in but setting myself a goal of 750 words a day.

    No quitting this time.

  148. Maggie Says:

    Okedokey….It’s 750 words a day for me.

My goals are: finish the WIP and polish it (25k novella standing at 14k now)
Finish another 25k novella (at 5k now)

  149. Bronwyn Jameson Says:

Also missed the start last time and watched from the sidelines — so glad I caught the start this go ’round. I’m aiming at 1000 words minimum a day on a proposal, then a full ms due Dec 15 (50k), then on to another proposal by Jan 15. The challenge to me is writing every day.

  150. Ann Wesley Hardin Says:

    I’m in!

  151. DawnMontgomery.com » Sven and his 70 Days of Sweat…only this time… Says:

[…] you to spend time with family.  Or take that much needed vacation.  Alison Kent has reopened her Sven writing challenge.  I’ve signed up to complete 10 wips.  All about 15K or less each.  So barely novella […]

  152. Margay R Says:

Okay, so I am finally biting the bullet and taking the challenge - and I am scared to death! I tried to do the NaNoWrite last year, but was not totally committed to it. But now I am totally committed to the idea of doing whatever it takes to get published. To that end, I really need to get motivated to write every day and what better way than a challenge such as this? Wish me luck!

  153. Alice Audrey Says:

I missed this the last time around because I was deep in revisions. Now I’m on a new project, and the timing is perfect! I’m shooting for 1,000 words a day on a 100,000 word book that is already started.

  154. Bianca D'Arc Says:

I missed this the last time so this time I’m ready! LOL I want to finish up a number of projects I have sitting half-finished and get some new stuff out there to editors. That’s my goal! :)

    Bianca
    http://www.biancadarc.com

  155. Kari Diehl Says:

My goal is to finish and edit the manuscript that agents requested in July (:o) and send it out both to them and to the Golden Heart by late November.

  156. SandieH Says:

I commiting myself to 700 words a day for a childrens book I’ve just started.

  157. 70 Days of Sweat « Alice’s Restaurant Says:

[…] As if the 100 words a day for 100 days challenge on FanLit Forever wasn’t enough I’ve joined the 70 Days of Sweat challge at http://70daysofsweat.com/wordpress/archives/71 […]

  158. Eliza Dashwood Says:

This is perfect timing. I wanted to start working on my novel by my 34th Birthday which is on the 16th. I also set myself a target of 1,000 words a day until completion, so this is just what I need to keep me focused. Cheers! the outline is in place, so it’s time to get cracking. Thanks, great idea!

  159. Teresa Noelle Roberts Says:

I need to finish up a lingering WIP and crank out several novellas and at least one short story, but basically I need some challenge to keep me writing. My brain feels spent, and I know the best way to keep myself writing is to write, but at the moment I need external motivation to do so!

  160. Aline de Chevigny Says:

Ok i’m gonna try this again LOL. Last time I finished and sold 3 stories yeahhhh but I suck at the blogging thing. But I’ll do my best.

    ALine

  161. Cynnara Says:

I’m in. Goddess, I’m in. Hopefully, I can get at least 2 novellas and half of long book done. *whimpers*

  162. Lia Morgan Says:

What the heck, I’m in. I don’t think I’m up to NaNo, yet. I can always make up a day if needed. OK, I am going to finish my Paranormal suspense. Only need about 50000 words.

  163. Sherry Says:

I’m probably absolutely crazy to sign up for this right now, but in spite of everything else going on in this same time period, I am a working writer with deadlines and all that other good stuff. I have one book due on November 1 and another due at the end of March, and I’ve been looking for a really good kick in the seat of the pants. I hope this is it :)

  164. Tina Bendoni Says:

Okay, gonna try again. I did really well at first the first time around, but lost it with family visiting, etc. Soo, we shall see how well I do this time. Hopefully much better. Have lots I need to get done. I WILL get that second novel done.

  165. Autumn Says:

This is my first time doing this particular challenge. I am looking forward to it. My goal is to write a new novel. I will figure out the rest as I go :)

  166. Victoria Blisse Says:

I’m back again! I’m gonig to combine this with my NaNo so the first 15 days I will work on a seperate project. Which will be my Manchester story for Phaze’s Urban Phaze line up. I need to get to 15k at least on this, so the 15 days is a perfect length of time :)

Then I will use November for my as yet untitled NaNo novel, I aim for 50k by the end of November but if my novel isn’t finished I will carry it on over Christmas.

I will then work on a couple of other stories I have ideas for so over the 4 different projects I should end up with around 90k words in total.

Yay! I love this challenge, it really gets me motivated.

    good luck everyone!

  167. Sandie Hudson Says:

I have spend to-day getting my work space in order, so I am now ready to take the challenge and I’m committing to 1,200 a day. I’ll be working on 2 WIP for here and a new project for NaNo. Mind you I’ll only be working on the new project during November. I’m crazy but not crazy enough to try working on 3 project at once.

  168. Marty Says:

I had set up goals to finish a draft by the end of the year, and then a crit partner pointed me here–I’m glad she did!

  169. lainey bancroft Says:

Hmm, are you supposed to break a sweat just signing up?

    ‘K. I’m in.

I also need the kick in the pants to finish (a.k.a START) a women’s fic that’s been growing in a scribble notebook for quite a while now.

Goal: 100K…ah, I’ll have to go do the math to break that down on a words per day basis.

    Good luck to all!

  170. Ann Wesley Hardin Says:

I was supposed to post goals? How’d I miss that? Okay, my goal is to start a new series–one that’s been cookin’ in my head for over a year. Grasshoppa, it is time.

  171. Margaret A. Golla Says:

Yay! I just finished researching for my next urban fantasy, and the timing of this challange is great!
And nope, I dont’ have a developed plot. I’ll just be pulling it from my @ss as I go. Love to hit >100K but will be happy with 50K.

  172. Eva Gale Says:

Finishing my 90k, plotting my next. Sven helped me write every day more than accomplish a set amount. So this time I’m working on word amount goals.

  173. Matt S Says:

I’ve never done something like this before, but it sounds great. I’m in the middle of so many different projects right now, and it would be real nice to finish something. I can usually get 250-300 words cranked out on my lunch break, so I’m hoping this will challenge me to make more time for writing when I’m at home.

    Goal: Develop better writing habits.

  174. Jodie Wilkerson Says:

Oh boy, I’m breaking out in a sweat just thinking about this. But…I can do this..I can do this…I can do this…

Finish a novella that I’ve started during a boot camp through my RWA chapter and after that’s finished I’ll be starting a new 60K story. It’s partly plotted and been rolling around in my head for about a year. I think it’s time to get it on the page.

I’m excited and looking forward to getting a lot written!

    Good luck, everyone!!!

  175. Kris Whinery Says:

I have too many projects started. I’m hoping this helps me focus on getting just one of them done.

Best of luck to everyone here!

    Thanks!
    - Kris

  176. Lynn Raye Harris Says:

I can’t believe I’m putting myself in for this torture, but sometimes desperate measures are called for! :) I need to finish the book I’m working on (my GH entry) which is about 50 pages from done, and I want to get a rough draft of the next book in the series done. I have company coming for T’giving, and a Christmas cruise with parents and inlaws, so I need all the motivation I can get. I reckon I need to write about 90000 words before I can reach the goal, so that’s around 1285 a day.

I watched from the sidelines the last time, but this time I want in! :) Even if it kills me….

  177. Marianne Says:

I’ll be doing this in conjunction with NaNoWriMo — but it’ll help me go beyond the 50,000 words! I’m excited.

  178. Judy Says:

I’m in… trying my hand at something different…. a paranormal. I have a great support system, but the more the merrier!

  179. Ella Drake Says:

I’ve got three projects in mind. 2 WIPs to finish and a short story idea that’s been distracting me. 1. 40,000 to go. 2. 25,000 to go. 3. Short Story around 7,000. That’s a little over a 1,000 words a day.

  180. Jill Myles Says:

I’m either totally rewriting one MS from the ground up or starting a new one. Either way, I need a kick in the ass. :)

  181. Lauren Dane Says:

I need to finish this novella partial and then start on a January 1 deadline novel, Stand Off, the last book in my Cascadia Wolves series. In between I’ve got three completed books that should come up for edits and if I have time left over, I’d like to sneak in some work in my post-apoc book too.

  183. Heather Nestorick Says:

I want to finish a book.

  184. Taylor Hartt Says:

I’m in. I’m hoping that by the end of the 70 days I’ll have a rough full ms done and a small series of short stories.

  185. JP Shaw Says:

I am aiming to complete a manuscript. I love writing romance, have published a few short stories, and always tell myself to be more disciplined by writing daily. I am going to try for a 1000 words a day. I am hoping this gives me the diligence I need to push my writing forward and prove I can meet a deadline if I only believe in myself. I wish everyone the best of luck in their own goals with this contest. Happy writing!

  186. Carol Ward Says:

Since I already have 3 WIP I’m hoping by the end of the 70 days I’ll have all three completed. The total word count I have left on them is about 70,000 combined.

  187. Kimberly Kaye Terry Says:

    Hiya!
I will be starting my next contracted book for Kensington, which is to be a 90Ker, so I guess I’ll need to average between 12-1500 words a day. The book is due in Jan, so Sven…make me sweat, baby!!

  188. Vivi Anna Says:

There. See Kim. I did it. Are you happy now??????

  189. Macy O'Neal Says:

I’m in. I started the first 70 days, but a very dear friend was killed in a tragic car accident and I just didn’t write for a long time.
Now, I’m trying to finish up edits/rewrites/new pages for my GH entry and plot out my next WIP, so I’ll be using October to finish up those two things and then I’ll hit the writing hard starting November 1st for Nano.

  190. Delilah Devlin Says:

This is soooo perfect! I am 90 pages into one book due December 1, and on Monday I start a second single title book that’s due January 1–so I’ll definitely have to do better than Sven’s required page count. I have to write them in parallel. Can’t wait to start sweating!

  191. Delilah Devlin Says:

Ooops! Thought I posted, but it’s not showing!

I missed this challenge the first time around–so I’m glad SOMEONE sent me the link. (Love ya, Kim!)

I am 90 pages into one single title due 1 Decemeber, and on Monday I have to start a second due 1 January, so this challenge comes at just the right time–although I’ll have to do better than Sven’s page count. I’ll be writing the books in parallel–always fun. NOT!

    I’m ready to start sweating!

  192. Jen Says:

I’m a glutton for punishment. Bring it on!

  193. Lauren Hawkeye Says:

I’m going to aim for 3000- 5000 words per day, just to make my life more difficult :)
I want to complete three 50- 55K manuscripts that I have the ideas percolating for, just the first drafts.
    Happy writing everyone!

  194. Sierra Dafoe Says:

LOL! This is kinda like my daily routine, here. But I’ve had a specific project I’ve been wanting to get to for a long time, so this’ll be my push to get that particular manuscript done. Whee! What fun to do it with company — and great company, too!

  195. Sapphire Blue Says:

Wow! 70 days. I can do this…I can do this…I WILL do this!
I’ll be working on an erotic romance that I’d like to shop for print early next year so this timing is great.
Looking forward to encouraging and being encouraged! :)

  196. Kari Townsend Says:

I just finished revisions on a manuscript for my agent, so I am ready to start on a new book. A humorous women’s fiction and the first in a 4 book series. Good luck all. Can’t wait to get started.

  197. Charlotte Featherstone Says:

I always write with blazing intensity till I’m 2/3 done, then I just fizzle. So, I’m sweatin to finish up the remainders of a single title ms of a new series. I’m also hoping to start and complete a partial for a contracted book.

C’mon Sven, work me into a sweat, baby!

  198. Jayne Rylon Says:

Well, I just signed up and clicked enter before I could chicken out. Now that I’m here, I plan to finish a WIP that’s had a request for full on it already. In addition, I’d like to start (and finish) something new.

Keeping my finger crossed for us all…

  199. Layla Chase Says:

This will be perfect for prompting me to write longer than novella length.

  200. Ava Rose Johnson Says:

Forgive me for being so last-minute. I had to really think about this.
For round 2, I want to write three novellas and a short story. That’s about 90,000 words. That means just over 1000 words a day.

    I can do it!!!

  201. Jordanne Says:

Ah, just the kick in the pants I need! Bring it on, this butts big enough for two boots to it!

  202. CorrinaC Says:

I definitely need a kick in the butt, and this challenge will provide it, I think! I’ll be working towards completing an ms that I’m only a few pages into and that I haven’t even plotted out yet.
    Good luck everyone!

  203. Wendi Christner Says:

Woo Hoo! I’m ready to go! I have a new ms with only a couple of scenes written and I plan to finish it with Sven’s help.

    Short Story: -8K
    Novella: 30K
    Novel: 55-60K
    total: 93-98K approx.
If I can get all that done, then I can start on my brand new idea for my first Vampire book or a sequel to Hunting Mila, woo hoo!

  210. Nixie Says:

OK, I’m in but…in honesty to myself and others I am setting my goals at 50%. For me this is much more than I have been able to do over the last 18 months. I am trying to come back from a major health issue and this is my way to do it.

I want to finish something! Most of my first project is cutting so I’m counting negative words., LOL I am writing for Spice right now.

And if you go to my url it is mostly blank because I have no idea how to add or change anything. Anybody have a title of a remedial MySpace for old farts manuel?

  211. Melissa Schroeder Says:

IF anyone is checking back in, I am tryin to find a word counter for my website. Does anyone know where to find that?
    thanks
    Mel

  212. Michael Woodhead Says:

  214. Conda V. Douglas Says:

Since my current w.i.p. has just been sent out, this is perfect for an idea/plot that has tortured me for a couple of years, but that I haven’t sat down and written. Woohoo! An opportunity!

  222. bunnygirl Says:

Updating my goals (already)! I’ve been writing short stories lately, trying to keep each of them under 1,500 words, and preferably under 1,000. This is a great way to become more concise and I’m learning a lot.

Therefore, I will allow myself to substitute a short story for a day’s work on my novel, as long as no story takes longer than two days from first word of the draft to final edit. If this keeps me from completing the draft of my novel, so be it. I’ve had the idea of a book of short stories knocking around my head for awhile, anyway. The stories are all loosely related and take place in the same fictional world as my trilogy, so it’s all good, I think.

  223. Lynn Matherly Says:

My goal is to finish current WIP. So, less than 1000 words a day.

  224. Lis Says:

I’m hoping to start and finish a new YA ms.

  225. Jambrea Says:

My goal is to finish one of my WIP.

  226. Brooke Says:

LOL…I must be crazy. This is the very first year of NoNo for me, and I just signed up for this too. I also work full-time, have three kids, just closed on our first house on Friday, and am just starting to freelance in graphic design on the side. In spring I plan to go back to college, so I’ve been trying to force myself to decide on one. I am so in over my head (especially with my first freelance project) that I’ve felt slightly lightheaded for the past couple of months. Yes, I must be crazy to have signed up for this too just now.

Well, then again, maybe I need this. Writing has always been my escape, and now I have a definite excuse
