One week left! How close are you?

I’m still editing. I’ve made some minor changes based on my CP’s suggestions and am also incorporating a few continuity changes of my own. All of which tend to suggest that I’ll need one more editing pass… for peace of mind’s sake… to ensure that everything ties up in the plot, and with the book to which this one is a sequel.

Should be finished by next week though. :)

  2. Thomma Lyn Says:

I’m really close! My goal for this Seventy Days of Sweat was to have a completed rough draft, and I’ll make it, I’ve no doubt. Following the Sweat Challenge will come the editing and revisions — I take more time to do that than I do to write the rough draft. For the Challenge, my goal has been to pump words so I’ll have something to work with… and boy, will I!

For the challenge, as of today, I’ve written a total of 120,836 words, and I’ve written 5219 since Sunday’s check-in. I’ve got a goal for the challenge of 130,000, and my story is steam-rolling toward the climax and the end.

  3. AJ O'Donovan Says:

well im no where near my goal but this is the first full length story i have ever tried to write, and i’m quite happy because after 2 weeks or more of solid nothing, i have finally gotten back into it =D
total for challenge so far is around 36k (goal was 60k) i’m working already today, and hopefully i can make it higher =D

  4. Joely Says:

I hit my 70K goal this morning!!! 70,634 words and counting, plus major revision passes to existing work. Woo-hoo! Thank you to Sven and the lovely sponsors for organizing the challenge!

  5. Shiloh Walker Says:

Really close, although I don’t know if I’ll finish my main WIP. But since I finished four novellas and started two others, I’m okay if I don’t finish the main one. It’s not due for three months yet anyway, which actually means I’m waaaay ahead of schedule.

  6. Susan B. Says:

I’m back at it. I’m still behind from those few weeks of not getting anything down, but I might catch up. It would only mean getting as much done every day as you guys do, 1500/day instead of 900. If I knew how this story ends, I’d say no problem. Anyway, I did 3188 since the last check-in, 47315 for the challenge so far (goal this week 54000), and I’m up to 83908 on this draft.

Mostly, I’m amazed to be this far along in less than six months (who knew I could just write, inspired or not?) and really happy that I managed to hang on to still be checkin’ in here with one week to go.

  7. Amanda Freeman Says:

So far this week 4450 words, I might eek out a few more this afternoon. I have 31,000 words left for the competition. I’m thinking that even if I don’t make my original goal I’ve accomplished something. I’ve almost finished my first draft. I’ve just been plumping it up. I may not be able to make it to 90,000 with the story, but as long as I get to 70,000 I’ll be happy. That is obtainable 11,000 more words.

  8. Kate Scott Says:

I’ve gotten a great big NADA. Sigh. I get so busy this time of year. I’ve also been editing, so that’s taking up (lovingly, of course) my free time these days.

Not sure that I’ll get any more by the end of the challenge, though I am proud of what I accomplished up til now. :-)

  9. Amy Ruttan Says:

58 out of 65k. I will do it, I swear I will. I must. I set the goal so I must finish.

Oh btw my URL has changed to http://www.amyruttan.com/blog.

    Only 7k to go.

  10. Jess Says:

My goal for the challenge was a rough draft of 80k, and I’m not going to make it. I figure I’ll have a rough draft of maybe 70k by the end of the month, which is still amazing!! Thanks so much for the challenge, dear sponsors.

The novel is at 56k right now, I have that short at almost 10k, so I did break the challenge floor of 60k, which makes me happy. My momentum is coming back now that I’m paying attention to my numbers - I’m going to break 200 pages today and that’s giving me a huge boost to write more, as is the idea of 60k right around the corner. :)

  11. Caro Says:

I’ve hit 45K on the suspense, so halfway through that. My original goal had been to finish the first draft and be into editing, but that was revised to get my proposal off to Harlequin and get as much as I can done on the suspense.

Since I usually come to a dead halt of several weeks after doing edits, picking back up and getting moving is definitely an improvement.

  12. Sandy l Says:

I’m nowhere near my goal, but this is the most writing I’ve done in a very long time. This week I am setting my muse free, so to speak. I am basically practicing by writing short scenes that will later be put together.

  13. Christine d'Abo Says:

I finished my 70,000 word book, my 30,000 word novella, and now I’m working on my 10,000 EC Caveman story. If I get it done as well, I’ll be yelling a major SQUEE!!

This challenge has been amazing. Thank you so much!

Word count since Sunday: 2,500 words.

  14. Jo Says:

Yay, yay, yay to all of you! Fantastic results!

I love that so many of us have had revelations about how we work and what we can accomplish.

    YeeHaw!

  15. Christina Says:

I stopped counting weeks ago. Still revising. I am so ready to be done with this story so I can move on to the next.

  16. Merry Says:

Uh, looking forward to the next bout of sweating with Sven! Hopefully I’ll do better then as I’ll have exited the *really* busy period. :o(

But, hey, I got *something* submitted so I can’t knock it - just need to improve on what I’ve done so far! :oD

  17. Cynthia Says:

One week left huh? Oh boy. I’ve eeked out about a 1000 words this week after several weeks of nothing. Been badly blocked, but I’ve worked through it. My total word count presently is 9370.

Let’s see what this last week brings me.

  18. Gina Marina Says:

So I haven’t done as well as I had hoped. I still did better then I would have without the Challenge so a big THANK YOU to the sponsors.

I’ve got 5 scenes to do, one as simple as their first kiss, one the wedding & honeymoon. The biggest problem, it’s due 10-15. Oh, man, I better check that’s it’s not 9-15!

  19. deniz Says:

still 10K short of my overall goal - think I can do it in 7 days?

  20. Victoria Blisse Says:

Well, I’ve done better than I though this week but not well enough, really. I’m up to 60, 567 now and I’m hoping to give it a real push in the coming week. I have an excuse, of course I do but I realise excuses are not substantial.

So basically, I promise to do better. under 5k in a week is not good enough -I’m gonna have to sweat more and I will!

  21. Cat Johnson Says:

Insomnia lead to some idea of where this story is going. Wrote 2500 on Monday and 1500 on Tuesday. Nothing today, real life got in the way.

  22. Lynn Says:

I’m about 11K away from finishing my first novella. No doubt I won’t meet my goal of completing two novellas for the challenge, but I’ll be happy with getting my main WIP finished for now. Just over 1,000 words for this week so far. Challenge total, 22,253.

  23. Cora N Says:

Only a week left? Erg. I was just getting into the swing of writing every night! Well, kinda… I’m at 63,968. A mere 252 words since Sunday. I want this book to be done by the time the Challenge ends. We shall see… :-)

  24. Nicole Gestalt Says:

I’ve been writing steadily since Sunday on a new story that is sort of appearing on the page. It’s not one I had planned to write but it seemed to want to be written so who am I to deny it ;)

So since Sunday (well actually including Sunday’s word count as I hadn’t written the words when I checked in last) I’ve written: 5250

My word count total for the whole challenge now stands at: 34661 words

I have just loved doing this challenge it’s been so fantastic and I am signing up for the next one!

  25. Hyacinth Hawke Says:

Darn it, I’ve only managed 2000 words since Sunday. I got a new laptop and have been having a hell of a time getting all my files transferred over. Then there’s that whole XP to Vista thing to get used to. Why, oh, why does Microsoft have to completely change everything?

  26. Silke Says:

    45305/80000

I’ve added 3529 words since Sunday, which is crap, really.

Ok I resolve to getting the total to 50k by… tomorrow night.

  27. Rebecca Airies Says:

I’ve added 4005 words since Sunday’s check-in. Challenge total is 73080 words. 7k from my goal.

2483 on Primal Encounter bringing it up to 37549

1522 on Lisia’s Journey taking it to 35531

I don’t know if I’ll make it to the 50k I’d planned for Primal Encounter before the challenge ends. Lisia’s Journey has more story than I’d originally thought and I’m enjoying writing it. :) I should make it to my 80k goal.

  28. Wayne (aka Trybble) Says:

    Magic Touch:
    Total word count = 10,157
    New words written = 0

    Double O Blonde
    Total word count = 3,615
    New words written = 1,717

    I’m really crusing in this new story. I hope I can keep up the pace {smile}

I know I’m not really keeping up with the rest of you, but reporting in twice a week helps to remind me of how important it is to write something each day.

    Until next Sunday, take care…………Wayne

  29. Pamela Bolton-Holifield Says:

I hear ya Hyacinthe on the Vista thing. I almost had a full scale disaster on my hands. Got up Sept. 4th to a completely dead computer! Worse, my entire novel to date was trapped on the hard drive and I had not backed it up at all. Yes, I know STUPID, STUPID, STUPID!!! Fortunately, my favorite bookseller has a fabulous computer savvy DH. He retrieved LOST IN LOVE and loaded it onto a jump drive AND my new computer. So, I was frantic and out of commission for a solid week. So, total words for this week so far - 1409. Total word count for the Challenge - 29,1003 (Not even close to the 60K I wanted to have done before the end of the challenge.) Total word count on my WIP - LOST IN LOVE - 65,620!

  30. eliza gayle Says:

i’ve been stuck in the middle for a while. was working on the story structure today though. chipping away. i need 80 pages to finish.

  31. Carol Ward Says:

Even though I know I don’t have a prayer of completing the challenge on time, I’m still plugging away. I’m up to 21,426 on Changeling. Not a huge word count since Sunday, but better than I’ve been doing.

  32. Lauren Dane Says:

My goal originally was about 70K and so far, I’ve written 102K and I’m not counting the books I had to revise and edit in the last nearly 70 days. This has been a really productive challenge for me! It’s enabled me to keep focus and think about something other than waiting on manuscripts out on pitch, LOL.

  33. Maude Clare (Jane) Says:

Oh, so much has been going on. I am 5,000 words from meeting my word goal, but, but, I have added so much I still need 4 more chapters after today. Also, we changed Internet providers and I have to change my email in Mister Linky, etc. I may wait till the second challenge to do that. I have already won two prizes. Great stuff. I am over 55,000 words and my goal was 60,000. The challenge really helped give me that added push. Thank you so much.

  34. Angeleque Says:

I’ve been really bad about checking in but I have been writing. I got offered a contract for one of my novellas so I’ve been working on editing and revising that.

The Honey Trap got pushed to the side because it morphed into something completely different than I started so now I have to go back and figure out where things went off course because I have 2 separate stories now instead of one cohesive one.
