wow, first comment! wish I had better news to report… my total count for the bovel is about 30K now, about 50K short of my ultimate goal, but I’ve had a very lazy past week. Need some sparks to start the ideas boiling again!
August 26th, 2007 at 1:58 am
I basically read this week. I just couldn’t bring myself to revise anything.
August 26th, 2007 at 2:12 am
I’m still pumping out those words!
Total for Sweat challenge: 93,363 words
Words since Wednesday’s check-in: 6,153
Average words per day since the beginning of the challenge: 1,867
I’ve got a goal of 120K words since I had a false start and had to switch to a new story the first week of the challenge. And if I have even more verbiage, that’s fine, too — my inner editor likes to have a *big* hunk of clay for her sculpting, heh!
August 26th, 2007 at 2:55 am
No actual words this week as I’m editing my WIP, and still actually reducing the wordcount by cutting out all the dead wood. It’s going well though, and I’m liking the book quite a bit, so I still feel as if I’m being productive.
August 26th, 2007 at 3:24 am
Going to work on getting rid of excess garbage. I’ve either been working on edits for Bound Spirits from Samhain, or gaining a new exercise hobby: jazzercise, which I haven’t done in 20 odd years…so its taking some getting used too.
Have a nice day and maybe I’ll be able to report more progress later on today than before.
August 26th, 2007 at 3:36 am
I’m back on track this week. I’ve written about six pages every day since I started my new project. I can already see how much I’ve improved since starting the challenge. Thanks to everyone for your great advice and support!
August 26th, 2007 at 3:49 am
I’ve doen well his week, but only because I’ve written alot in two days -at least 1 day this week I’ve not written a word.
However, I’ve done 7163 words shared between fulfil me and a new short story.
Which means I’ve got a grand total of 51761!
I’m pretty pleased with myself, but I want to press on even more now.
August 26th, 2007 at 5:46 am
Im doing okish this week. Im on 31,763 words, which is nearly 80 pages.
My average is 735 =( need to be working harder i think.
August 26th, 2007 at 7:56 am
49 pages since Sunday which brought me to the end of my book!
I’M DONE!!!
Sven rocks!
Check out my blog post here where I talk about my journey with Sven.
Thank you all SO much! I really needed this push to finish the book.
August 26th, 2007 at 8:39 am
7,200 last week completed my first WIP. That approx. 27K novella done, I have started on my next short story (Goal of 13K). Just 63 words for the first chapter so far but I have a kick ass title… Lies Your Mother Told You.
August 26th, 2007 at 9:22 am
75 pages edited; 404 total. Yay! Smooth out a few weak spots and I’ll be done, finally. 24,960 words unchanged.
August 26th, 2007 at 10:25 am
I’ve squeaked by with 5k and it wall all edits. I haven’t worked on anything new, just doing my edits. Now edits are behind me I hope to work on my two new projects.
August 26th, 2007 at 10:48 am
I finished the novella! *cheers* My Sven total is 43.5K. Now I need to decide on my next project…
That’s two small projects that Sven helped me complete on time! (My self-imposed deadline on the novella was 8/31.)
August 26th, 2007 at 11:07 am
I’ve finished my Blaze, finished my novella, edited another, and I’m now plotting my next Blaze (due Oct 15!!!).
I have no idea what the word count is, except that it’s around 65,000. I think this challenge is the best thing since sliced bread, especially if you’ve gone in with a concrete goal, not necessarily about word count. And yes, I realize word count is the main measuring stick we’re using here. But it’s our writing, our goals, our achievements, so we get to make up whatever goal we want, right? Then check in here and drink in the support, see how everyone else is doing, and learn from others. I love it!
August 26th, 2007 at 11:12 am
From day 1, I’ve written 27,054 words. Not as good as I hoped. This wasn’t a good week for me. I backtracked and then became indecisive about some world-building decisions. I need to keep moving the plot forward and forget background stuff until this finish this!
August 26th, 2007 at 11:59 am
All the best intentions. . . then life happens. I am nowhere near my goal. I have written a little over 20,000 words since the beginning of the challenge. I am trying to check up and hopefully I will be able to meet my goal. Going on vacation didn’t help my writing goal, but it did help my inspiration. Even if I can’t reach my goal this time around, I am forward to trying again with the next Challenge round.
August 26th, 2007 at 12:03 pm
6,613 for this week and counting - I’m only half way through todays scene. Nearly 28k for a total, but now that kiddo is back in school, I’m going great guns
August 26th, 2007 at 12:08 pm
This week has been all about the revisions for me. Home stretch.
August 26th, 2007 at 12:28 pm
Okay, I am going to say that I wrote 0. But, I have actually written a lot. It’s just that made a major change in the story to get the flow back and am now making up for the changes that I made. I think if I keep going a this pace I will actually be done by the end of the challenge.
BTW great job everyone. You all are such wonderful inspriations.
August 26th, 2007 at 12:49 pm
5196 since Wednesday, and that’s not counting what I will write today! My total is 52582. Yesterday I only got about 950 in because… I was resorting all the final scenes and getting rid of the guilty pleasures! Yep, I said they are the final scenes. “Almost done” has such a nice ring to it.
I’ve gone farther than I ever thought possible since the challenge started. I can honestly say I thought I would drop out after the first week. Little did I know…
~Jen (posting under the wrong name)
August 26th, 2007 at 1:09 pm
61K. I should be finished by next Sunday.
August 26th, 2007 at 1:31 pm
Congrats to everyone above that’s in the home stretch. Awesome job!!!!!!! I’m not nearly that well off. I’m not feeling this story very much. I’ve only written about 14K for the challenge, and I think I’m going to start on the second book in the series instead of the one I’m working on now, since that one seems to be calling me more. We’ll see….I’m definitely WAY BEHIND.
August 26th, 2007 at 1:52 pm
I finished my first draft on I SAID NEVER this week making it to 70,344 words. Adding 8,052. I’m now revising the book. Since word count won’t be as affective when revising I’m going to try to edit a chapter a day. I have 14 more chapters to edit I think I’ll still make my offical word count.
August 26th, 2007 at 2:32 pm
Still have no new words to report. I did realize however why the story has stalled, I mean I’ve even thought of doing the laundry instead of writing. When I started this challenge I recast my hero, thought it might work out, it didn’t. So now I will go back to who he was originally and see how much of what I’ve done can be salvaged. An important lesson learned, I just wish I’d figured it out two weeks ago, when this first stalled. I really wanted to be further along than I am.
August 26th, 2007 at 2:41 pm
My count for the week is about 12,000. For the last two weeks, 25,000. Total, since we started, about 70K, BUT most of that is not publishable material, it is other stuff that isn’t for sale as an MS. Sooo, lets say total of good, sell-able (yes, I know the proper word is salable, but I don’t like that) writing is around 40K.
August 26th, 2007 at 2:54 pm
The heat finally did me in, physically and emotionally. I’ve been ill, and had to go to bed. I need to go to the doctor.
So, let’s see, I did two new pages Wed after sign in and basically have not written much since.
All of this makes me feel awful. Thur, Fri, Sat, no new words. I HATE THAT.
Today I am going to write my four pages, even if it is from the bed.
I did read in between large naps! Smiling.
August 26th, 2007 at 3:44 pm
Cooking right along…word count for the challenge is 35,634, and for this week is 14,378.
Verry happy with it so far
August 26th, 2007 at 4:09 pm
42 pages! Woo hoo!
August 26th, 2007 at 4:37 pm
3794 for the week, 9752 since the beginning of the sweating. I’ve finally caught my pace again and have slowly been easing the number of words per day up. The kids start school in a week. Yeah! 40,058 words total out of 90,000.
August 26th, 2007 at 5:19 pm
I had a run with illness, so I only made it to about 56,100 words. Not sure how that fares against the wed. check in. But all together not bad since i was at only at 19K when I signed up back in July.
August 26th, 2007 at 5:31 pm
I’m flying high this week. I wrote a total of 2665, which isn’t the most I’ve written in a week, but I had a fabulous attained goal. I officially hit the mid point! I’m now over 50% done with this book! Woooooot! *g*
August 26th, 2007 at 5:40 pm
Thinking over the past two months, I’ve realized something. While I may not reach the ultimate goal of whatever I last officially posted in word count wise for the Work In Progress for this Challenge, I’ve actually written a bunch of short stories. All total, I’m actually way over 100k, just not with the Just Another Day.
So I’m just popping on to say I’ve got 124 pages total, and the word count is: 77,470 words. Not even close to half way done :(. However I’m still working on it while doing edits.
Hope the rest of you are having better success!
August 26th, 2007 at 6:18 pm
Ok I’m about 37k into my 80k and I feel really bad about it.
But then I’m thinking that I started at Zero, so that’s not bad at all really.
I’m only counting the one story, because that’s the one I want to get done, but I’m scribbling in others and I have to do some research on occasion, that takes time too.
All in all I’m not too unhappy, because I got a good one going and the research will help with the follow up as well.
August 26th, 2007 at 6:40 pm
I averaged four pages a day for the past seven days–the first time I met the challenge. Yup, twenty-eight pages for me this week. I’m glad I don’t have to worry about Sven barking at me in Old Norse THIS week. Pat Rosen
August 26th, 2007 at 6:47 pm
I’m a little behind since Wednesday. I had a terrible headache through two of the days. The headache turned out to be a little bit of a blessing. I managed to think about the two stories and the characters.
I added 2536 to Lisia’s Journey and 526 to to Primal Encounter bringing challenge total to 50, 869.
Good luck to everyone!
August 26th, 2007 at 7:00 pm
Finished up Beautiful Girl Friday, I think, with a word count of 48,900. Was aiming for 35K but needed more for the story.
Think I’m at 63K on The Missing. Not so much done there this week but since BG was wrapping up, I was more focused on it.
Also started on two new novellas.
August 26th, 2007 at 7:22 pm
Since Wednesday I’ve actually been really productive (at compared to the past few weeks) and have written 3550 words. I’ve been editing one of the pieces I finished last week and have expanded it a little. I’ve also written a new piece for a magazine and have started another project.
I’m very happy with how everything has been going and now my current total since the start is: 24642 words
August 26th, 2007 at 8:41 pm
I did better this week.
I wrote 2316 new words and edited a few of the beginning chapters. Right now I have three different scenes I need to complete and a good idea of how I’m going to end the book.
33,792 out of 60,000 words.
Life does happen. On Wednesday, my husband and I got into an accident. (Hit a guard rail. We’re both okay though.) And a last week I found out my publisher decided to close down. So now I have two finished novels I need to find a new home for.
But life goes on.
Thanks for this challenge. It’s the best thing going for me now. Keeps me focused on what’s truly important.
Good luck all!
August 26th, 2007 at 9:02 pm
Finished my book, just a hair over 78k.
The challenge was excellent for keeping me on track. Thanks for the inspiration!
August 26th, 2007 at 9:02 pm
I just looked. I haven’t updated my counter since Wednesday. Because I haven’t finished anything to dump into the manuscript. I wrote over a thousand words, but I’m not done yet. I’ve had other projects that have needed my attention this week. And lets face it, I’m dragging my feet like anything because I don’t want to do this part. I’ll be better this week. Promise.
August 26th, 2007 at 9:09 pm
I added 2k to my word count since Wednesday, I’ve started a new short story. OMW to Larissa’s blog
August 26th, 2007 at 9:41 pm
17,650 on my main wip, plus some scattered words on other wips. I’ve got the main ideas twirling in my head, just have to get them nailed down.
August 26th, 2007 at 10:00 pm
Can’t remember if I checked in on Wed or not *bad me* but I’m sweating along
I wrote over 2,000 words today bringing my total to 28,304.
Let’s see if this story in my head will put me near 35 come Wed
August 26th, 2007 at 10:38 pm
I didn’t check in on Wed. because I hadn’t written anything. I had expected to get rolling on wednesday when youngest went back to school, but only had half days because of 100 degree weather. Then some of us were sick. Never had the flu in August before - not a fun time.
Then got better and had two August birthdays to celebrate.
Finally wrote a bit today but only 504 words. But I like my WIP and although I only have 168 pages done, I’m thinking September will see me getting more done.
August 26th, 2007 at 10:39 pm
*sigh* I was really hoping to pass the 20,000 mark before the end of the weekend, but it didn’t happen. Changeling is at 19,291 which is not quite 2,000 for the week. It would help if my characters would do what I want them to do instead of haring off to do their own thing!
August 26th, 2007 at 11:31 pm
1,067 words since Wednesday. 14,126 total on Last Call. Started a new short story, too. For the challenge: 18,065.
Kids go back to school tomorrow!
August 26th, 2007 at 11:51 pm
This week was much better for me. I added 5,430 words for a total of 35,800 since the challenge began. If I can have a few really productive weeks, I can get back on track!
Laurie
August 27th, 2007 at 12:07 am
I had a really good productive week…I will probably blog about it tomorrow, since for the week I wrote 21,175 words for almost 85 pages…
I hope I can keep that up for the coming week. I want this WIP finished already!
August 27th, 2007 at 12:55 am
58,743! I finally caught up with Sven and got a little ahead of him to boot. I’m tired. Going to bed now.
August 27th, 2007 at 1:48 am
Good news: found Office and uploaded so I can work on my ms
Bad news: I haven’t worked on my ms - I did read 5 books this week ~blush~
August 27th, 2007 at 2:34 am
Total: 11,046 - and nasty ragweed’s not helping!
August 27th, 2007 at 7:11 am
Well, I did work on my WIP, but it was mostly cutting and redirecting, and rewriting, so I came out even from last week. Now that I know (sort of) where I’m going, I should do better this week.
August 27th, 2007 at 7:57 am
Not too shabby. Managed about 5900 words for the week, and that was only for about 4-5 nights of writing. Sitting just above 73K total. Goal is 80K by the end of this week. *crosses fingers*
August 27th, 2007 at 9:46 am
Well, since my internet connection was out for most of the weekend — and still is, I’m posting from work — I managed to finish the revisions on my proposal and wrote 3,500 words on the suspense project.
Of course, since the internet was out, I couldn’t send the file to my buddies so they could give it a final look-see, which was frustrating.
August 27th, 2007 at 9:53 am
50750. Why is the second half so much *harder* than the first? Doesn’t help my available writing time went *poof* because when I’m not busy at work, I’m involved in volunteer stuff that Needs To Be Done (time-sensitive). I mean, I love volunteering and what I’m involved in, but eek, have I slowed down. Part of that is losing momentum, of course, but wow, I hadn’t expected it to be quite so much.
August 27th, 2007 at 9:20 pm
Hi all, I am late. I just finished the short story. Go me. It was tough but I am please. Now it can rest a bit.
This is hard to write and keep it steady. I thought it would help me focus and it has but it sometimes slows me down too.
Also the longer the story I find myself forgetting key details and having to go back and reread. Maybe I need a better outline???
August 27th, 2007 at 11:56 pm
Another terrible week! Only got 1347 words on paper. SIGH!! Back at it!!
August 28th, 2007 at 9:37 am
oops! that just goes to show how sick I was that I forgot to do that Sunday check in. and I was so looking forward to it too. I finally have wome word count to brag about after a two week dry spell. 3-5K. and I do believe it is on the higher end of that ’cause I do tend to under-guestimate for fear of cheating or something. but whether its under or over 4K, I am pleased because it was a breakthrough. I was on a roll for three days. And then i got sick. bleh. oh well. putting that behind me. moving on.
