The idea of a challenge helps drive the motivation for sure. But although writing is inherently personal, there is something to be said for gathering criticism and encouragement from a community (es evidenced by your blog). You can get lost in the word count conformity yes, so it’s good to remind yourself or a peer that the motivation is something more meaningful and deeper.
