Sunday Check-In

So, just about half way into the challenge, sweat-people. What’s your status? Are you super-achieving? Or sliding? Racking up solid word counts? Or just pottering?

Stick with it, folks. Do what you can. Hang on in there.

Well, I haven’t exactly been racking up words on any WiPs this week, but I have been doing quite a bit of brainstorming and world building and writing notes and mini scenarios for a variety of different projects. So I haven’t exactly been idle.

I feel I’m making decent progress on writing… even if I’m not actually writing. :)

  2. Dawn Montgomery Says:

Almost 4K this week. Better than last week. The chest cold is finally gone. :) So I’m doing much better! I just have a bit of residual cough now. This coming week is buckle down for me. I hope everyone had a good week! See you on Wednesday!

  3. Kim Knox Says:

About 3k this week - yes, I am writing the wip from hell, lol.

Hopefully, I’ll get more written on it today. I think I’m about halfway through it. *fingers crossed*

  4. Matt S Says:

TODAY I WILL ROCK. Ugh. It’s been hectic around here. I wrote a couple hundred words this week.

  5. Mikaela Says:

I have written 2k this week. sigh. But…. I almost done. I am in the climax part. And… it will be longer than the projected wordcount. Wee. Then I’ll go back to my original WIP, which I abandonded since Futuristica suddenly wanted to get written now. sigh. And Futuristica was old… two months or so :p.
I will get more done since I have a new pillow. No more backpain. Hopefully..

  6. Elle Amery Says:

Didn’t reach my goal for this week - too much Christmas stuff going on - gotta stop MAKING gifts and just go out and BUY them! Who needs hand-sewn American Girl doll dresses anyway? Oh, yeah, my nieces, who I promised . . .

    Targeting about 4k before Wednesday.

  7. K.B. Wagers Says:

Sitting at 37,400 - this past week sucked with low productivity and two days where I completely bailed. :) Struggling a bit through the holidays but I’m hoping to pick it up here the last few weeks before my husband comes home from his deployment. (because then I’m not getting anything done for about a week :D )

I’m happy with the story though, so that’s still good.

    K

  8. Cassie Says:

    1,382 words since Weds.
    Total Sven count = 39,099
    Total word count = 53,947/75,000

    I figured two things out.
    1. I don’t write in a linear fashion. I jump from scene to scene. Only during NaNo do I mostly do that and then I get stuck and hit the wall hard.
So I jumped to a later scene and got my word count up this week. I was still treating it like I was during NaNo.

    2. “As you can see… we have… another problem”
The bright and shiny. I’m talking about the new Hallmark Star Trek ornament - TOS communicator. OMG, it’s got Kirk, Spock, Uhura and Scotty saying their lines. I’m such a trekkie when it comes to TOS and ST:NG. 19th’s my birthday and this one’s my gift to myself. Must remember to get Tribbles too. :-D

On another bright and shiny subject, all during NaNo, several secondary characters wanted their story now, but I put them on the back burner. It’s hard because it’s a new story, but I’m sticking with the one I’m writing. So far so good. Usually, I’d have skipped to a new one by now, but I’m hanging on. Scene jumping works wonders.

When I have time, I’ll have to blog about this. LOL

“We’re putting everything except the kitchen sink into the impulse engine.” Gotta remember this for NaNo 2009. ROFL

  9. Kimatha Says:

39004 for Sven, with the whole WIP at 49,504. Almost halfway there, and this doesn’t include the words I’ll write today! It’s been a hard writing week though, and the Sven posts this week about getting through difficult times and not giving in to the temptation of the Shiny New Project have been most welcome.

Right now it’s -13 degrees F outside so I don’t plan on doing anything today but sitting by the fire wrapped in a blanket with a nice cup of something hot to drink. Should be a good day to exceed my planned daily wordcount.

  10. deniz bevan Says:

solid progress - should reach the halfway mark today. but I’m worried about later - when all these red pen corrections have to go into the MS; will I be as dedicated then?

  11. Sarah Leslie Says:

Up to about 24000 at the moment. I’m writing longhand (as it’s difficult to get on the computer at the moment) and managed to get some done this week so quite pleased. Although I have struggled over the past couple of weeks with the family crisis I’m determined to get back into writing, if nothing else it helps me escape for a little while. :)

  12. Michele Sayre Says:

I actually got about 6k for the week which takes me to the 21K mark. It’s back to the grind tomorrow morning so I hope everyone has a good week.

  13. Kait Nolan Says:

I’ve totally jumped into the sexy next book. After months of struggling with my last WIP, I decided my head just isn’t where it needs to be to write it at the moment (or for the last several months). So this week I began my next project, a paranormal romantic suspense about werewolves. I’m only 1020 words in, which isn’t a lot of words, but I’ve reams of notes and have been out of town this week.

  14. Shiloh Says:

I’m making progress. I’ve finished up all the edits I had to do so now I focus more on projects number 2 and 3.

  15. Jen Says:

After getting sidetracked for a couple of days by a shiny, new idea, I forced myself to get back to the WIP and break down that pesky wall.

I’m up to 33k for Sven for a total of 47k on the WIP.

  16. Lell Says:

Very little progress (one measly scene written), though I’ve fleshed out the backstory on book two and most importantly, picked a villain for the whole thing. Hope to get started on book two either this weekend or next week, but it’s taken a backseat to a) cutting a reel so that I have some sort of job security if my company goes under and b) Christmas presents that I have to make.

Working tonight, though. Hope to get somewhere before I sleep.

  17. Cynthia Says:

Still no words written, but I’ll be ready first thing Monday morning to be back into story. I’ve finally got the story transcribed into a Word document and that was my biggest obstacle.

  18. Robin Says:

I’ve written 7k more words this week. Keeping up a steady pace when I actually sit down in front of the computer to write. There’s lots of distractions this time of year.

  19. Nicole Gestalt Says:

I’m getting to second main scene in a piece I’m working on and it’s taking a while to get right so I’m not pushing it and just letting it flow instead.

Which means word count is down this week.

  20. Dita Says:

I managed to add 3884 words Thu thru Sun, which is 3884 more than I wrote Mon thru Wed, so I can’t complain. And now for something completely different…

How do you celebrate Xmas when some are there to commemorate Christ, some are there to meet Santa, and the rest do not care one way or the other about either?

I’ve decided to let JC be the birthday boy, make Santa’s visit the entertainment for the evening (he visits Scandinavian kids to drop off presents on Xmas Eve), and let the different foods fight it out and fend for themselves on the buffet table.

    I’m so screwed, right?

  21. Amanda Says:

5048 words for the week plus 82 pages of editing.

  22. Jaci Says:

I had a crap writing week, but all told I’ve got 30K so far since Sven started, which isn’t too bad. But I have a lot to go to hit my goals, so this coming week I need to kick it in gear in a major way. I’d really like to finish up the novella this week. We’ll see how it goes.

  23. sharona Says:

This week was an improvement over the previous (no report literally because of no words) at 5,452 for the week. Strangely, that is the exact same number of words from my week 3.

This puts me heavily in arrears on my goal of 100K.

Yet I got some stuff worked out in my head and have developed a new relationship with the process - and I’m lit up about the character whose scenes I’m writing now. So. Go team s.

    Total count = 37192
    Hanging in.
