Sunday Check In

Okay, American sweat-people, did you write through Thanksgiving, or take some free days? Hope you’re all planning on making up for time spent feasting and drinking and generally enjoying yourselves!

Non Americans, what’s your excuse?

Let’s hear about your progress. Who’s doing well? Who’s not doing so great? Who’s racing ahead? Who’s crawling?

I’m on just over 5k for the week, and 18 292 for Sven.

I finished my November novella and polished it Friday. It should be ready to sub next week. yay

Now I’m back to hacking out words for today :D

  2. Dawn Montgomery Says:

    Total for the week: 17,308

Beat nano this week and haven’t updated my word count there since Monday. Finished two other wips. Weird phaze of writing obsession for three days (driving need to finish my cowboy contemporary, five hours sleep in three days…I’d fall asleep and then wake up to write again an hour or two later). I blame the turkey.

Total Sven is 41,778. I had to recheck that four times.

Today is polish and submit cowboy. And then tomorrow I start a new story.

  3. Portia Da Costa Says:

Have been a bit up and down this week, and have lost ground due to taking a break after submitting my latest to the editor.

But I’m starting to pull back again. Should have written 18060 by now, but have actually written 17636. Hope to get back on an even keel during the coming week. :)

  4. Anya Bast Says:

I managed to meet my goal of 10k for the week despite the time drain of hosting Thanksgiving at my house. I’m at 30k total for Sven.

It’s odd how during times I’m extra busy with non-writing things, I manage to actually write *more* than usual. It’s like my stubbornness kicks in full force. Huh, holiday? You think you can kick my ass? I don’t think so, sucka!

Or it goes something like that. *g*

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.

  5. Matt S Says:

My place slowed quite a bit, but I’m still rocking. I need to write just over 5,500 words to finish NaNo tonight.

  6. mikaela Says:

I was busy this week, and got no words done. I almost caught up, since I wrote 5k in two days :D. I probably would have caught up if I didn’t spend the whole day on Ikea. Unfortunately, it wasn’t on Firewitch, but on another idea. An Erotica… uh. I am kinda blaming Jaci Burton, since I got it after reading one of her e-books :D

  7. Annie Gray Says:

Not much writing since Wednesday, i do have 15,300 words! I happy about that. I’m going to up my daily word count next month. I’m going to write 1000+ words. (say a little pray)
    Happy Writing Everyone!

  8. sharona Says:

It was an interesting week. I only wrote 5,452 words, which is not my 1200 to 1500 words per day, but is also not zero. It wasn’t the holiday, either. It was STUCKNESS. My unfamiliarity with my own plot has run me into a couple of brick walls. Having trouble forwarding the action.

In my few-ish words, I managed to meet one significant character and to reset my story one empire earlier in time, so a lot was accomplished in realtively few hours. All in all, it was a good week, both in terms of understanding my story and understanding the process.

To reach my 100,000K goal, I have to manage 1200/day thru 1/26.
This will be a challenge, because I have much work to do in the next two weeks, and two trips planned (not counting business travel) between now and the end of SVEN.

But that’s what personal trainers are for, and what is Sven if not a personal trainer?

    Go Team Sven!

  9. Robin Says:

Hey sweaters! I wrote 8500 words this week, bringing my Sven total to 21,250. The best part is I’m really enjoying what I’m writing! Good luck to everyone this week.

  10. Tez Miller Says:

Oh, Sven, I’ve been bad since your 70 days started. I did some preparation, but no actual writing until yesterday. Before that, I hadn’t properly written for months (and I’m not exaggerating). Got 646 words, but it took me two hours. I used to be faster, so hopefully I’ll speed up with practice.

    Have a lovely day! :-)

  11. Natalie Brunelle Says:

I’ve been very productive this week. I finished NaNoWriMo at 51,080 words. 27,300 of those words were for Sven. This week I’m sticking with writing 1,300 words a day and I’m added working on short stories and novellas now that NaNo is over. So I’m adding 700 words a day for the shorter fiction. That will be an even 2K. It’ll be a push, but I think I can do it.

So officially 9,100 words minimum for the novel. 14,000 words with the short story is the uber-goal.

    Good luck everyone!

  12. K.B. Wagers Says:

Took Turkey day off but tried to write the rest of the weekend. Succeeded for the most part though today was a little soft.

I’m still doing well though - sitting at 24,292 / 100,000 hope to add another 15k or so next week.

    K

  13. Lauren Dane Says:

I’ve been playing catch up from other things earlier in the week (edits, promo, etc) but I managed to push it through and I’m at 36K written since the challenge began.

  14. Jen Says:

I’m up to 19,200 words total for Sven which is a little ahead of my goal for this point in time.

I took Thanksgiving Day off but wrote quite a bit each day for the rest of the weekend. Hope I can keep up the pace next week!

  15. Kait Nolan Says:

God, I’ve been terrible about this challenge this go round. I keep forgetting check-ins and my productivity is in the toilet. I just sat down and churned out 300 or so words, which are the first ones I’ve written all week other than a couple thousand notes on a new project. I don’t have any idea how many words I’ve got for Sven overall. But tomorrow is back in the saddle and routine, so we’ll see how it goes.

  16. SarahSki Says:

My WIP hit 50k tonight. Since the story isn’t finished, I don’t think I’m going to move onto my second “wip” and will keep plugging away at this one until it finishes somewhere in the neighborhood of 60 - 70k.

  17. Patty L. Says:

I took the holiday off. I have done terrible this go around and promised myself that I would be more disciplined. I am disappointed in myself, but have made a decision to get busy tomorrow. I have to work in the morning and then my duaghter has a doctors appointment so I will be home a little earlier than normal, so I will spend that time getting an early dinner ready so that I can concentrate on my wip.

I hope everyone else continues to meet their goals and I can honestly say that you all are an inspirtation to me. When I don’t want to open my wip I just come here and read some of your comments and I get inspired. Thank you.

  18. Rhonda Says:

Well I made a whole 500 words this week, but 12750 for Sven so far. I should get back on track this week.

  19. Cassie Says:

Won NaNo at 50,611 words with 5,742 written today.

10,013 words since Wednesday. Total Sven count = 35,763 out of 75K

I’m so tired, but I’m happy I finished NaNo. It’s been a rough month. I’ve been working more than the last three years during this time. That’s a good thing.

    Congrats to everyone!

  20. Sara Dennis Says:

I finished NaNo this week, pushing to finish yesterday so I could take today off. Total words since Wednesday: 8675.

Which puts my Sven total at 35,936. I expect that to slow down a little, but I’m going to try to do 1500 a day.

  21. Midnight Spencer Says:

I am ashamed to say that i did not write at all this week. I added a scene to my forever citrus story that i am editing … so in the last two hours i tyrped 899 words for the scene. not a lot but compared to what i typed this week 0 words. its a start. but i fear that with finals and one holiday passing into another, and my job that i need to focus more on my writing. i made a goal and i need to follow it.
some of you have more things and even more important things and get thousands of words typed in days. so what is my excuse? motivation. i have ideas and words in my head but as soon as i think about getting on my computer … blah i get distracted and cant concentrate.

    wish me luck
    :winks:

  22. Kimatha Says:

    25,964 words for Sven. Total project= 36,464.

  23. Dita Says:

    Dearest Taskmaster Sven,

Have no excuse for stuffing my face; promise to try and kill my Concept2 as it tries to kill me. Have only one excuse for not writing much Friday thru Sunday: pink eye, never experienced it before, never wish for a rerun. Have but one regret: not submitting at month’s end like intended; maybe by the end of this week then.

    Dearest Bravest Challengers,

You’re looking good and doing great, so congratulations to those who beat NaNo, and those who woke up on this first day of December and hadn’t… No Kafkaesque gigantic insects out there are there, so don’t waste you’re time on regret, Sven’s here to whip you into shape!

Another month, another chance to shine, so happy writing to all, and to all a good week!

  24. Emma Petersen Says:

I am a horrible sweater. I have no idea how much overall I’ve written since so much of it has been a pattern of write 2k, cut 2k, write 1k, cut 3k. :| My other wip I started Sven with was giving me an absolutely fit, so I put it aside to work on the 2nd book in my Dating the Undead series.
OMG! It flowed like water. When I started Thursday, I was at 7k. I didnt write much Sunday but I’m at over 15k, for a total of 8k in 3 days. Yay!

  25. Lell Says:

I’m late! I’m late! I’m so very late! Sorry about that — what with all of the books I had to read piled up on my nightstand, I quit resisting the lure and instead spent Sunday evening curled up with a book. And completely forgot about Sven. Doesn’t mean I didn’t knock out 4k yesterday and 10k on Thanksgiving (no plans, alas), but that doesn’t excuse me for not checking in yesterday. I don’t have my excel sheet here at work, so I don’t know my overall totals for Sven, but I think it’s something like 40-50k? I’ll check when I get home.

And I’ll be on time Wednesday, I promise.

  26. Amanda Says:

6981 for the week, but I took off for Thanksgiving. I’m happy about my progress. I won NaNo, yay! Now I have to finish that off and then I’ll work slowly on the next book while editing two books. :)

  27. Sarah Mäkelä Says:

I’m at 28587 for the Sven total, and I beat Nano last night with 50,242 words. :)

  28. Jess Says:

I took some time. *G* Total as of Monday after lunch: 58.8k. (Started Sven with 22k.) I hate math, tra la, tra la.

  29. Alexa Says:

I won NaNo yesterday yay! But now need to catch up with Sven!

  30. deniz bevan Says:

    Congrats Alexa!
Slowly editing… very slowly… Y’all are helping to keep me on track though!

  31. Kate Goodman Says:

Well, I am barely past 11,200 words for Sven. In my defense, this total doesn’t represent anything in the past week, because I got 0 words written this past week.
It was a little insane, learning my mom has cancer - not sure how serious, not sure how much is has spread, don’t know anything but suddenly can’t breath at odd moments and my little ones wondering why mommy is crying.
And we hosted 17 for Thanksgiving.
So, I’m forgiving myself (if Sven will) and deciding to continue tackling it. Starting tonight.

  32. Deb Mullins Says:

I had a 4 day weekend and managed 2 pages. That’s it. Trying to get back in the saddle here with full speed ahead…7750 words.
