Ready To Sweat Again? Who’s Ready for Round Four?

Okay folks. Who’s ready for a fourth round?

Got a deadline about ready to bite you on the tail?

Need a kick to help jumpstart a stalled WIP?

70 Days of Sweat Round 4 will start on November 10. The sponsors, Jaci Burton, HelenKay Dimon, Lauren Dane, Portia Da Costa, Diana Peterfreund, Stephanie Tyler and Shiloh Walker invite you to join in.

Basically, 70 Days of Sweat is designed to challenge (naturally), support, and encourage those of us crazy enough to write a book in 70 days. At the end, we’re looking for a word count between 60-100K. We’ve built an extra week into this round, so technically you have 77 days to sweat meaning . . . Round 4 will run from November 10 to January 26.

The original post from Round 1 can be found here. If this is your first time to play, read that, then come back here and sign up!

  1. MImerki Says:

Finish the current WIP: Mirage. It should come in at around 60K. If there’s time after that (ha!), I promise to do revisions on the WIR.

  2. Michelle (MG) Braden Says:

OK, I need to add about 65-70k to current wip (so yeah, not very far in to it). I’d really like to get it done by Christmas or sooner. That’s my goal. Not sure it’s attainable, but really, really need to do it.

I’m going to pretend that Sven is my contract and he’s going to put a hit out on me if I don’t get it done. LOL :-D

  3. Anna Adams Says:

I’m so glad Sven is ready to sweat again!

I’m working on new proposals so I’ll direct my efforts toward several of those! ;-)

  4. AJ O'Donovan Says:

*Sigh* back for another round. this time i swear to go i’m not going to drop out in the first 2 days. The first Sweat70 got me about 35K on a novel (which i’m only now revisiting again; it’s up to 40K lol), and i crashed on the second and third rounds.

I’d like to finish this novel to 90K (that’s 50k ish) or write a short of maybe 30k (maybe both!) on an idea that’s been bugging me for months.

Feel free to come kick my ass on my blog. no seriously. please. i totally flake out if people aren’t watching me :)

  5. Cynthia Says:

    I’m in.

My goal this time is for 70,000 words. I’ll be doing Nano this time round as well. I figure if I’m still writing on the 10th, then doing this shouldn’t be a problem. My plan is to take the wip I start during Nano and expand it.

  6. Mechele Armstrong Says:

I’m in! I need some motivation. Hopefully this will help me kick it up a notch.

  7. M.J. Says:

I have a bunch of projects I want to finish over the next few months. This’ll be an excellent kick in the bum.

  8. Matt S Says:

I was in round 2 and skipped round 3… this time around I’m also signed up for NaNoWriMo, so I’ve got twice the pressure to stay on the horse.

  9. SarahSki Says:

Started out with a bang in round 3, and then quickly fizzled. Signed up for NaNo … going to give this a shot, too.

  10. Tez Miller Says:

    1) Book Title - Unfroze
    2) Hero Name / Occupation
    3) Heroine Name / Occupation
    4) Setting
    5) Length

    Book Title: Unfrozen
    Hero Name/Occupation: Robert Horvath (journalist)
    Heroine Name/Occupation: Vicki Melbourne (exporter)
    Setting: The year 2108.
    Length: 60K would be nice.

    Have a lovely day! :-)

  11. Karen Erickson Says:

Sign me back up, Sven always gives me that kick I need. Yay!! Can’t wait. ;)

  12. Jill Myles Says:

    Me, I’m in!

  13. Amanda Says:

Okay, so yay, Sven’s back. I’m participating in NaNo as well. So I’m hoping in 70 days to have completed my 50K novella for NaNo and the additional 50K that I need to finish my WIP. Which I’ll be a third into NaNo so it will be more like 32K, so about 80K total.

    Book Title: Forsaken/Untitled
    Hero Name: Caleb/Chase
    Heroine Name: Kaitlin/Natalie
    Setting: Now
    Length: 70-100K/50-55K

  14. Mark Henry Says:

Finish Dark Rites: 50,000 more words.
Start Battle of the Network Zombies: 80,000 words.

Won’t someone please kick my ass?

  15. Steven E. McDonald Says:

…alright. This is a good chance to make myself plough back into the extant WIP, with one sidetrack only, a comics project that I’ve been futzing about with for too long. 70 for one, 7 for the other.

  16. MJ Says:

I’m in! I’m doing Nano, too, though I don’t know if I’m going to stick with the book I’d originally planned….

  17. Sandy Says:

I definitely need a kick in the butt, so I’m in. I’m aiming for an 80,000 word first draft.

  18. Tess Harrison Says:

I’m in. I signed up for NaNo too so this will give me the extra push. Let’s see goals, since this is going to last longer than NaNo my goals will be to finish three stories (two short, one catagory) and edit and submit at the least the two shorts.

  19. Kait Nolan Says:

Hot damn! I’ve been eagerly awaiting Round 4. I’m about 17k into a rewrite of a prior project (got halfway through and realized I was missing some serious conflict between h/h). I’ve signed up for NaNo, but I’m not really under any illusions that I’m going to write 50k worth a darn in a month. But the 70 days. Heck yeah. That’s my speed baby. So my goal is to finish the first draft of Til Death by the end of the Sweat.

  20. Portia Da Costa Says:

    My goals are to:

Finish and edit current full length WIP due in on 30th November
Complete two 8.5K word mini novellas
    Complete one 6K word story
    Complete one 3K word story
    Edit/polish above mentioned stories/novellas
    Work on proposals
Make a start on next full length WIP, I know not what… :)

  21. The day before… - Cynthia Eden Says:

[…] Totally unrelated, but one I’ve wanted to write for some time now.  Luckily for me, 70 Days of Sweat is coming up, and,  I’ve decided I’ll definitely participate in that.  (I saw 70 Days […]

  22. Cynthia Eden Says:

I am definitely ready for Sven again! Just what I need over the holidays.
Okay, my goals: To complete (including editing and revising) my current WIP. To write a new novel (aiming for 90,000 words). Rough draft ONLY on the new one. :-)

  23. Ryan King Says:

Woot! Aiming for an 80k length fantasy.

  24. Emma Petersen Says:

Goals: 2k or more a day.
Need to finish my single title and 4 novellas, possibly 3 if I get one done by the time Sven starts. WOOT! Love the Sven.

  25. Val Bower Says:

Hi, Count me in for 70 days!
Looking to do 2k words a day- Need to write Dragon #2(working title) and finish Sacred Fire. Looking to Sweat with Sven!!

  26. Xidu Says:

I’m in. Just missed out on 100k last time, will try for it again this time across a combination of projects. My WiP needs to be finished by the end of November and I have two novellas I’d like to start and finish by the end of January.

  27. Michelle Rowen Says:

Demon book — goal 80K, starting at 10K completed. So that’s 70K in 70 days? NO SWEAT, people. BRING IT.

  28. Amy Ruttan Says:

I have a 50k book to finish, and editing on a full manscript to be done.

  29. Mia Says:

Aww man, I wanted to participate in this but I’ve already committed to NANOWRIMO this year. Good luck to everyone writing this year!

  30. Jennette Says:

Yay! Just in time to revise the 75k book I wrote for Sweat #3 - which will be no small task. So bring it on!

  31. Lauren Dane Says:

Oops, forgot to say what I’d be working on!

I’ve got Always - a category length contemporary romance to finish up, No Reservations, a contemporary erotic romance co-written with Megan Hart to finish up and three more proposals to write.

I’m sure other things will come up - but that’s at least 80K right there!

  32. Dawn Montgomery Says:

160K by December 31st! This list puts me at about 162K or so.

I’m a multiple wip gal so:

    Finish Del Fantasma: Winter Break
    Complete 75K on Blood Harvest
    Finish 25K Cowboy Contemporary
Finish 25K on story due by mid December
Complete 25K on fun Sci Fi story
Complete minimum of 10K on Spaceport: Paradise Run
Continue Free Read/Wicked Wednesday through New Year

Edit and polish the above as needed. LOL.

18K a week is my goal.

  33. Jaci Says:

Howdy everyone! So glad to see you’re joining us this round! :-)

I need to write two novellas.

Riding The Edge - 45K novella. Right now I’ve just tossed my original plotline for this and I’m starting over on replotting it. So I should be ready to go or already started on it by the time Sven begins. Then I’ve got One of the Guys, a 25-30K novella to plot and write. If I manage to finish those (oh please let’s hope I do), I have a single title to write that’s due May 1st.

    Um…no pressure, really. ;-)

    Woo hoo! Let’s write!

  34. Kim Knox Says:

Yay, Sven is back in my life!
I have more wips than I know what to do with, lol so I need to crack on.

Now I have to complete the first step to my Sven experience: making my obligatory motivational icon *smirk*

  35. Heather Harper Says:

I’m doing Nano, too. Hope to use Sven to extend word count and edit.

  36. Mari Alwin Says:

Hailing from the procrastination center of the universe I could uses a daily deadline to get me moving each day!

  37. Kristi Says:

I’m a newbie to Sven. I’m doing NaNo, working on my 3rd (well, 2nd…I have only actually completed 1…) romance. This one will be a paranormal, aiming for 80-90000 words. I work so much better with a deadline!

  38. Mikaela Says:

I am nuts.. but here we go. I have signed up for Nano, but I have realised that it don’t fit me. It is too much right now, so I am jumping in here instead :)
Right now the goal is to finish revising Wolf and Widow , which should be 25K long, currently at 16 K. And to have a first draft of Firewitch, hopefully over 50 K. Which will be a challenge, since I tend to write novellas… but I have decided to experiment a bit.. hopefully it works.

  39. Elle Blum Says:

This is perfect timing for me. Right during winter break. I hope to finish my WIP. I have 20k so I’m looking at around 70k. I was going to do NaNo but when I realized this was starting up, I knew this would be much more successful. Can’t wait. Good luck everyone!

  40. Jackie Barbosa Says:

Well, I have several projects in the work, some novellas and a proposal for a full-length single title. If I can get them all done in seventy days, they should add up to right around 60k.

    This is gonna be fun!

  41. Michele Sayre Says:

I want my current WIP finished and out the door by January and I know Sven will keep me working. And my target length on this book is 55 to 60K.

  42. Rhian Cahill Says:

Okay, it’s official. I’m insane! Why else would I sign up for Sven when I’ll be doing Nano? Yep, insane and I’ve got the voices in my head to prove it!
    RC

  43. Sandie Hudson Says:

Yes well, I’m with RC, bloody insane! But I have a big project lined up for NaNo 110,000 words so I just may need the extra kick in the pants from SVEN to make sure I get it finished. I looked at it this way if I’m going to aim high go all out. Happy writing everyone.

    Sandie

  44. Midnight Spencer Says:

Hi! First timer here … kind of nervous but am in need of a plush, a very big plush …

Book Title: Forever Citrus (name could be changed)
    Hero Name: Link Bradlee
    Heroine Name: Route (last name???)
    Setting: Now
    Length At Now: 16919
    Length To Be: Finished

Started this as a short story in 2003, picked it up again last year … i have a thing about not being able to finish my story once i start … like i am afraid to left go almost …

    :winks:

  45. Annie Gray Says:

    Title: Keep Faith
    Hero: Luke
    Heroine: Marty
    Setting: the future
    Length: 50,000
    daily goal: 1000- 2000 wrds
    I’m also doing NaNoWriMo.

  46. Margay Says:

I am ready to get that kick in the pants I need to get my next book off the ground!

  47. Nicole Gestalt Says:

Hmm…my goals…well I want to write. There’s way too many things to list here that I’ve got to do but I’m looking forward to this since 70 Days always gives me an extra boost and some unlikely sources of inspiration and ideas!

    Thanks for running this again

  48. Bonnie Rose Leigh Says:

I have a couple projects to work on. I’m aiming for the full 100K. I’m also signing up for NANOWRIMO so hopefully participating in both these events will ensure I keep motivated to write.

  49. Ashlyn Chase Says:

I’m beginning a new single title series and taking a plotting workshop during the month of Nov.

I want to have the first book in the series complete and polished, ready to pitch at the New England Conference in March.

  50. Hannah PS Says:

I’m taking the plunge and starting NaNo tomorrow - hope to get to 100K via this challenge once November’s over. Fingers crossed!

  51. Leah Braemel Says:

Sign me up. I need to write the second in a series I proposed to my editor - around 60-70K. Plus I’ve got edits I’m waiting on for my soon-to-be-released story. I need something to keep me from freezing up while I’m waiting.

  52. Sindee Sexton Says:

I seriously need a good kick in my ass and to seriously sweat out those words. I work 10 hours a day and am also taking some classes, so I am aiming for a lower goal of 7K a week. I’m at 40K on a current project, so I plan on finishing this project then starting a new novella project that is swirling around in my head.

Sindee who wants to SWEAT. Bring it on, Sven!

  53. Sindee Sexton Says:

Oh, the current project is titled: Unleashing Your Inner Sex Demon. I’m shooting for 80-90K. The novella is tentatively titled: “Deadly Jewels: Amber’s Arousal” Yes, it’s erotica.

    Sindee

  54. Fictional Discipline » Blog Archive » November is not for wusses Says:

[…] also signed up for round 4 of Sven, which is mostly made up of very nice women who write romance. Maybe some year there will a […]

  55. Mimont Says:

WIP: Through Thick and Thicker, a darkly comedic commercial fiction.
Currently at 44K words in chapter form plus pages of notes all over my office.
Goal: additional 60K in chapter form

  56. Jenny Smith Says:

I’m about 10k into my WIP, and my goal is around 70k. So, I’m hoping to get 60k written!

  57. Scott Shanks Says:

    WIP: Self Sacrifice
Contemporary fantasy suspense thriller with elements of romance, 80-100k words. I will be doing a blank-page rewrite of the original, very disjointed rough draft, most of which was unusable except in a character-development sort of way.

  58. Evelyn Guy Says:

I just found this site. Here is my info for the 4th challenge:
    1) Book Title - The Katrina Murder
    2) Hero Name / Occupation — Devin / Homicide Detective
    3) Heroine Name / Occupation — ?? / ??
    4) Setting- New Orleans just prior to Katrina
    5) Length - 80,000

  59. Bitter Says:

Yay! I’m so glad I saw this was happening again! :)

This time I’m going to be working on a Historical Romance with fantasy elements.

    Goal, 90k words.

  60. Barbara Rae Robinson Says:

I just found this site! I signed up for NaNo, but it’s not enough time to finish my book. This will give me the incentive to keep going, though at a slightly slower speed. My aim is 100,000 words on a single title romantic suspense that is book one of a trilogy. The first book is Dangerous Legacy. I have two scenes rewritten. I’m taking an old story and revamping it and making it twice as long and much more modern.

    Barb

  61. DawnMontgomery.com » Blog Archive » 70 Days of Sweat have Returned! Says:

[…] So come on over to the blog and put in your PERSONAL WRITING GOAL. […]

  62. Alexa Says:

I’m signed up for NaNoWriMo and slightly freaked out about the 30 day limit. Then I saw this mentioned on Diana’s blog and thought it sounded more achievable.
Aiming for 70.000 words, two stories in mind so I should probably pick one soon!

  63. Chris Says:

Tried NANO a few times and found the 30 day goal to be more of an obstacle for me. Even if I’ve got 50,000 words I don’t have a novel. So this year I’m taking my currently stalled project to the ropes with 70 days of sweat. I look forwad to typing “The End” on the rough draft at the end of the challenge.

    Book Title: Blood Rage
    Hero Name: Sebastian D’Astare
    Setting: Alternate USA
    Length At Now: 21,432
    Length To Be: ~150,000(rough draft)

  64. B. Lafleur Says:

First timer here. Aiming for 80k. Really looking forward to it.

  65. Jess Says:

I’m Nanoing but this will give me the impetus to finish the WHOLE book and not just the first part of draft. :D YAY, I’m glad Sven’s back! The check-in accountability is SO key (and the Nano website is so user-unfriendly).

  66. Jess Says:

Oh! My project is a first draft of what will eventually be 90k…. I described it to my sister as “old-school Chrichton meets vampy Nora Roberts”.

    Working title: Perfect
    Genre: futuristic romance
    Heroine: Veronica Lindbergh
    Hero: Rhys Andersen

  67. Vanessa Says:

Yeah, thanks for getting us back in line, Sven :)

Hatchet and scalpel edits (wip sitting at a very incomplete 110K) and finish third act (sitting at a meager 8K)

  68. Karen Duvall Says:

Sven was an incredible boost for me last year and was responsible for me finishing my WIP by the end of December. That manuscript got me my agent, who is now subbing it to publishers.

I’ve already started my next book, which is not part of the series my agent is subbing, but a brand new one, just in case. It’s a steampunk urban fantasy and I’m 20,000 words into it already. My goal is to finish this book by the end of the year. I’m doing NaNo, too, so this 20K combined with 50K in November will give me 70K, which is just 20K short of my 90K goal for the finished book. Egads, that sounds so mathy. Urgh.

  69. Lise Fuller Says:

I just started another MS and would like to get as much done as I can!

    ~ Lise

  70. Melissa Blue Says:

I’ve missed Sven. So, like some here I’m participating in Nano. I really wanted to start with a clean slate book wise. So, once I’m done with that I’ll work on an unfinished ms for Sven. I need 60k on that story. 110k in 3 months. Yes, I’m insane, but I’m ready.

Book Names: YA Magic (tentative title) and Getting Over Mr. Wrong

  71. Deb Mullins Says:

I’ve never done this before, but I’m game.

Working title: Something Old, Something New
    Hero Name: Samuel Breedlove
    Heroine name: Cilla Burke
    Setting: Victorian England
    Length: approx 90,000 words

  72. Jen P Says:

    Hi Sven! Missed you!

My project is probably going to be around 90K. There’s no current title; nothing feels right on it. The genre is fantasy. Currently at 30K, so that leaves 60K for the challenge. Then I plan to write a 10K Christmas story. So 70K by Jan. 26th.

    Good luck, ya’ll!

  73. Jane E. Jones Says:

Count me in as well! I’m doing NaNo for the first time, and will use this challenge to take the wordcount higher. I’m starting completely from scratch, and don’t have as much as an outline. Probably not a good thing, but I only decided at the last moment to join up:) Thanks to Portia for pointing this out to me.

  74. Kimatha Says:

I dug up an old manuscript fragment and realized I liked it much better than I thought I did. I’m scrapping a bunch of it but I really want to finish it. Thanks to the amazingly awesome Lauren Dane for tipping me off to this challenge.

  75. Sherry Dare Says:

The website isn’t ready, but I am. I need to complete a rather difficult WIP titled Devil’s Den. It is a paranormal romance that runs pretty close to urban fantasy.

I’m having a little family vacation this weekend so this schedule will fit right in with my life! Thanks for having me.

  76. Maria Hernandez Says:

I did Sven Round 3 earlier this year. I accomplished so much. I’m doing NaNo this year and plan to use Sven as a challenge to finish the full YA fantasy I’m tackling. I’d also like to finish an erotica novella or novel. We’ll see, lol.

    Best of luck to everyone!

  77. sharona Says:

I’m in. 70 days sounds much more sane than 30, and I’m looking for a challenge.

    Book Title: TBA
    Hero Name: TBA
    Heroine Name: TBA
    Setting: 1750BC Euphrates river valley
    Length At Now: 5000

  78. Alison Diem Says:

My goal is to finish my WIP, which is halfway completed, as well as complete edits for submission to my crit partner and crit group.

  79. Silke Says:

Finish the current WIP and get it out of the door is my goal.
It won’t take 70 days, but I have other WIP’s in need of attention!

  80. Tricia Fields Says:

OK, I’d planned on doing NaNo, but their website won’t play with me. *pout* And Sven gives me more time. Yay! I have a WIP to finish, a synopsis to write and then revisions. Does that sound like enough to do?

  88. Nicole Says:

I’ve seen enough people talk about Sven on their blogs in the pas that I finally decided to join them… I’m also NaNoing, and want to use this as a push to finish the whole book, and not just the first 50K.

My NaNo this time around is Tarot Trouble, a YA novel with a slight paranormal aspect, and I hope to reach around 60-65K with it. If (as I assume I will) I finish this one with time to spare, I want to move the push on to CP, my prior WIP which had kinda stalled out pre-NaNo.

    1) Book Title - Tarot Trouble / CP (code name - no working title yet)
    2) Heroine Name - Louisa Matheson / Rhea Pearson
    3) Hero Name - Jay Clark (more “love interest” than “hero”) / Llar
    4) Setting - as yet unknown US town / space
    5) Length - 60K / 85 K (30K-ish already written)
    6) Genre - YA paranormal fantasy / spec fic romance

  91. Rhonda M Says:

I must be insane, but I really need to finish my current WIP… 60K to go, that’s my plan and I’m sticking to it!

  92. Stephanie Staton Says:

I’m doing NaNo. I’ve achieved 50,000 words before but the book never seemed to get finished. So, I’m hoping that Sven will push me to finish the book then edit it. Don’t know finished work count goal that I’m going for yet. My book thoughts are still muddled together.

  93. Shannon Stacey Says:

    1) Book Title — IFTC
    2) Hero Name / Occupation — Scott/currently unemployed (so attractive)
    3) Heroine Name / Occupation — Jen/runs an Inn
    4) Setting — northern NH
    5) Length — 60,000
    6) Genre — Contemporary category

So if I average 60k to 250 words per page, that’s 240 pages at 70 days = 3.3487…yeah, I’ll go with 5 pages per day.

  94. Lell Says:

I’ve signed up for Nano (this’ll be my fourth time doing it and hopefully my third time completing it since ‘01), but I never get a full book, just the main portion. So my goal is to complete “A Girl, a Boy, and a Radioactive Isotope” by the time Sven says I can stop sweating. And if I finish early, I’d like to finish my WIP, “Trashing Romance,” by Christmas. As that’s what I want to give to my best friend for her present. Since–no money.

In other news, I signed up for a “Biggest Loser” type challenge at my gym, so not only will I be “sweating,” but I’ll be sweating as well.

  95. Karen Junker Says:

I need to finish an 80K paranormal romance I’ve been working on. Also want to start another one for the Cherry Adair Write the Damn Book Challenge. I followed Mark Henry over here, so I’m here to kick his butt, too!

  96. Florence Moyer Says:

I know I’m a bit late, but I’m up for the challenge. I need to finish my first draft of my book due for Steeple Hill LI Suspense in Feb. I am eager to write it, but need to be writing every day, so this will be good for me.

  97. Shannon Kennedy Says:

I’m in again. I did 70 days last year - along with NaNo. I’m going to write a single-title contemporary, 100,000 words. It’s started and if I finish it, then I’ll get to work on my new y/a. Let’s do it! Let’s sweat again!

  98. Mary-Frances Makichen Says:

Hi, this is my first 70 days. I’m working on a 100K suspense ms. I have approximately 98K to go:). I’m up for the challenge!

  99. Carrie Says:

I am working on a 70K romance. I have about 7K written and hope to finish by Christmas. I love a challenge, so this will keep me going.

  100. Liena Ferror Says:

I just started my novel. I’m shooting for at least 70k by the end of the month. Definitely by January. I got through 9k today.

    1) Book Title: Blood Diamonds
    2) Hero Name / Occupation: Joshua Hannigan/YCPD Violent Crimes Division
    3) Heroine Name / Occupation: Opal Bijoutier/Jewelry Designer
    4) Setting: York, Pa and surrounding area
    5) Length: at least 70k

  101. Caley Walker Says:

I have a few projects on the go at the moment, and am looking forward to getting the motivation to either finish some of them, or completely start over with a new one!

  102. Merry Says:

Well, I hadn’t realised that Sven was starting up again until I saw Mark Henry’s post on LJ!
I’m doing NaNo as well, so it should be interesting. I’ve got an erotic historical romance to do - I’m aiming for a first draft of c.60k, and then I’ve got to do a third draft of a contemporary. See how we go from there!

  103. Barbara Burnham Says:

I’m in! I will be starting a ST Contemp. but will be working on a draft only.

My aim is for 3 pages/day.

    Barbara

  104. Peg Cochran Says:

I’m going to give it a try. I’m almost half way through with a cozy mystery that needs a kick in the pants. Even with the holidays and spending five days back in NJ I should be able to make it. As a matter of fact just signing up for this has given me something of a jump start. I finished a stalled scene last night and have been brainstorming the next one.

  105. S.J.Bell Says:

I haven’t been a stellar student of Sven in the past sweatshops but I’m back for another round.

  106. Patty L. Says:

I’m in and this time I am going to meet my goal. I want to finish my current wip (I need another 20K) and start a new project. I want to finish the current wip so that I can start sending it out.

BTW I am planning on checking in daily, otherwise I will let myself off the hook and never finish. LOL

  107. Cat Kane Says:

Despite a great big stinkin’ pile of Real Life getting in the way of the last Sven, it did keep me writing so I’m back for another round!

Like a lot of you, I’m also signed up for Nano (though planning on spreading the 50k over two or three projects that need completing/editing/tweaking/butt-kicking into shape), so between the two challenges I hope to come outta this with about 75k, though more would be a huge bonus!

  108. JenWriter: With my freeze ray, I will stop the world. » 70 Days Of Sweat Says:

[…] of doing NaNoWriMo this year, I’ve signed up for the 70 Days of Sweat Writing […]

  109. Ellie Day Says:

    My goals are:

    1) Finish my first long story - I’ve been a short story writer all my life so this is so new. It’s a WIP I’ve had around forever by Thanksgiving - I’m stuck in the muddy, muddy middle and the end is so close that I need to just reach for it and grab it. It’s currently at 70K and 150 pages. I’d like to add at least 50 more pages to it (20K).
    2) Start the Regency romance novella I’ve been dreaming about. I’m thinking 40K for that one.

  110. Trisha P Says:

I have been waiting on round 4!
I am starting a new wip and hope to have at least a 100k rough draft completed by the end of this round.. I’m ready to sweat! Good writing everyone.

  111. Michelle Says:

I’m doing Nano and enjoying it but am also working on a second story that would be perfect for this challenge. It is a sequel to another story I had done that I’d like to get working on.

Looking forward to writing with you all!

  112. Marilyn Brant Says:

Yay! Sven is back!! And I’m ready…I think/hope! :). I’m also doing a modified version of NaNo, but I clearly need help focusing on finishing this book (I have 23k so far). My goal by the end of the 70 days is to complete the first draft of a women’s fiction manuscript and have it–at least kind of–make sense.

Good luck to all of you on your writing projects!!!

  113. Kate Goodman Says:

I am still an aspiring author - shopping my first novel with agents but not getting anywhere yet. So, time to dig into the second one!

    WIP Title: Unchipped Underground
Hero: Jason Moore the Fourth, or just “Fourth”
    Heroine: Geniver Pena
    They are police detectives.
Setting: Denver, Colorado, the year 2075.

So, a futuristic whodunit. No outline, just some notes on what I think the world is like. I’m a SAHM with 3 kids under 5, and I just need some accountability to get myself writing again!

  114. Colleen MacLeod Says:

Sven and I have just met. I’m hoping a little sweat equity will help me kick my but from the “aspiring but tragically underachieving” category into at least producing readable work.

Now for some characters and a plot….

  115. Laura AC Says:

Doing NaNoWriMo but want to do this too - trying to get to 100k. Sequel to a book currently in the editing stage.

  116. Ally Says:

I want to finish the long contemporary I’m currently working on. I need 62k to finish.

  117. Serena Shay Says:

This is my first time sweating with Sven, but by the looks of him I’m sure he knows how to encourage! I’m shooting to finish two 30K stories to round out a shape-shifting jaguar series.

  118. Jambrea Says:

I’m going to try this again! My goal is 1,000 words a day!

    Good Luck everyone!

  119. Joanna Strong Says:

First time out with this challenge, but really looking forward to it. The goal is a finished novel by the end of January. I will write a minimum number of words daily during November (300-500) as I am completing another project for Nano during that month. But as soon as Nano is over, my production on this project will be increased to roughly 800-1000 words daily.

    1) Book Title - Taylor’s Pirates
    2) Hero Name / Occupation- Rok, Pirate Captain
    3) Heroine Name / Occupation- Taylor, Pirate stowaway
    4) Setting- mid 1700’s, Britain and Jamaica
    5) Length- 60,000 words (YA novel, so shorter is better)

  120. Merry Says:

My first post got eaten, I think.

Like a number of other people I’m doing both NaNo and Sven - although I think that Sven will be the more realistic approach to getting things done.

I’m working on a historical which was originally planned to be a 20K short, except the story got too big. I’m now aiming for c.80K for the first draft, bearing in mind that when I do the second draft I’ll be adding c.8%.

If I get that done with time to spare I’ve got a third draft of a contemporary erotic romance to work on as well as a futuristic short & a military short.

    Roll on Monday!

No goals yet. I’m completely rewriting a book I wrote earlier in the year. Will probably shoot for around 100,000.

  123. C.J. Redwine Says:

I’ll be writing the second book in my Fate series (just finished the first). I’d like to get a solid 70k of decent material out of this so I can revise and polish it up by March. =D

  124. Angeleque Ford Says:

Finish my YA I have 25K done need the other 50K. I also have three short stories (10 to 15K) I want to finish up and a novella (2K) I need to finish up.

  125. Kensana Darnell Says:

I’m doing NaNo so I figured why not try Sven as well? Two kicks in the butt beats one. I’m shooting for 1000-1500 words a day. I’m working towards finishing up a new vampire paranormal. Fingers crossed, I’ve got to finish!

  126. Robin Says:

First timer here! I’m going to write a YA (my first one), so am shooting for 65,000 words. I also need to finish revising my paranormal, but hopefully that will be done in the first week so I can focus on the new story.

I’m excited to be here and ready to sweat!

  127. C.S Says:

I’m new to the challenge, but I’m gearing to go! I’ve got my sweats on, sweat band in place and a “Disturb and Die” sign dangling from my office door!

    *Cracks knuckles* Let’s get sweaty!

  128. Breia Brickey Says:

First timer here. I want to write a paranormal. I would love to do at least 1000 words per day and could really use a kick in the pants.

  129. Nancy the Romancechick Says:

Heard about this challenge from a friend and critique partner. I’ve set a goal of eight pages a day for myself so 4-6 should be a breeze. I’m looking forward to it!

    3) Heroine Name / Occupation- Marlo - caterer

    5) Length- 60,000 words

  130. Leah Hodge Says:

    Okay…

I need to start my YA novel that’s been brewing for awhile. I need 50,000 words at a minimum before Christmas and chaos rolls around.

I’m a little nervous, as I don’t like to sweat EVER. (Weeping silently at the thought).

  131. Cassie Says:

I missed the earlier rounds. I’m NaNoing like so many others. Closing in on 13 K and a fourth consecutive win.

    1) Sub Rosa: Collateral Damage
    2) Mac / Security specialist
    3) Dee / Security specialist
    4) Contemporary, unspecified city and suburb
    5) 75 K
    6) Romantic suspense

If I have time, I need to add 10K - 15K to the previous 3 winning NaNoNovels.

  132. Moira Rogers Says:

We’re in! We wanted to hit 730k words this year, but we’re only at 636k. We have 93893 words to go, technically in 52 days. But we’ll take extra time!

Okay, third time lucky! I’ve never completed 70 days of sweat, but I just successfully finished a writing challenge on LiveJournal (JoNoWriMo) - early! - and am inspired enough to sign up for more encouragement and… um… group flogging. ;)

I have a YA novel to write, while I wait to hear about one book on submission and another in my agent’s TBR pile. This is a completely new idea, but I do have about 10,000 reasonable words that I could use towards it. That means I have 50-60k to go (probably a first draft of 60-70k).

Good luck everyone!! I see some familar faces here…

  144. Theo Lynne Says:

This is my first time on this challenge and stumbled on a little bit late. I think I can crank out a couple of pages before midnight.

I’m hoping to get 70k on my first-draft WIP. I just can’t field NaNo this year.

  145. Sarah Leslie Says:

Well I’m doing NaNo, but I think I need all the encouragement I can get at the moment.

Bit late to the party. But I’ll just count he first day as one of my frees and catch up.

  146. Melinda Says:

I’m a little late, but hopefully I can catch up.

  151. Dita Says:

Sorry I’m late *plops down on her seat*, only just got hint you are at it again! I spied on you during the last round, seething with envy because I didn’t have time to write (or so the excuse went) and itching with the writing bug because I did have the inclination.
I made a solemn vow to join you next time around. So here I am *opens WIP folder* with a novella to polish and two more to finish and edit by that fated day in January, some 30k each.
The upcoming holidays are such a perilous time, ripe with aforementioned excuses and to-do lists. I need you, oh Taskmaster Sven, to crack that whip and keep my writing in the top three of that darn list.
Yes we can. Yes we can. Yes we can! *chants as she goes* (Sorry about that folks, she’s very excitable that Dita, and very impressionable.)

  152. Delilah Devlin Says:

I’m coming in a little late. I always miss these things. I’m doing NaNo this month too, but since this challenge goes longer, I want in!! I have an 85k book due by the end of December. i’m finishing up a 25k book by the end of this month and will try for a novella a month through January. I need discipline!

  153. Lynn Crain Says:

I’m starting late but then what’s new. LOL!

I still think this will help me very, very much in going forward with my stories. I’m actually hoping to do more than just 4-6 pages a day and to get a couple of books done in the time allotted. We’ll just have to see. I’m posting the particulars on each book here and I’ll see you all on Sunday. Good luck everyone!

  156. Cheryl Says:

Hi everyone. I just found this site, but that’s OK because I’m doing NaNoWriMo - so I’ve already got a few pages up my sleeve from that!

This is a great idea — I don’t see any reason why I can’t do this as well as NaNoWriMo — so here I am! Four years of Nano, and I always end up with 35,000 to 50,000 words that never go anywhere else. I’m hoping that doing this will allow me to get a first draft FINISHED!

Novel (1 of trilogy): Adin Calls
    Genre: Fantasy
    Synopsis:

An Australian woman is kidnapped from her world and forced to save someone else’s.

She reluctantly joins them to help locate the Vision Glass they need to save their home - even as it begins to fall apart, only to find their worlds are indivisibly entwined.

Some of the party make good decisions along they way and some bad - with deadly repercussions. Some of the party grow closer, while others are split apart.

… And an ending becomes a new beginning.

    5) Challenge Length 60-100,000 words

  160. Darcy Burke Says:

I’m signing up late. I’m doing NaNo, but won’t be done with the book by 11/30. My goal is to finish by 12/31. I think this will help me get there.

    Title: His Wicked Heart
Hero: Jasper Sinclair, Earl of Saxton
    Heroine: Emeline Fletcher/Emma Devereaux
    Setting: 1802 England
    Challenge length: 95,000 words

  161. Sarah Mäkelä Says:

My goal is 90,000-100,000 words (depending on how long the novel I’m working on gets). I want to finish it by 12/31. I signed up late since I’m doing Nano and won’t be finished by 11/30.

  162. Natalie Brunelle Says:

Sorry, I’m leaving me initial comment alittle late, I got tied up in my writing. I was also doing NaNoWriMo and I wanted to be sure that I didn’t fall behind on that.

My goal is 90,000 words. I’m over half the way there because of NaNoWriMo, so I’m hoping to stick with this other half. This is an urban fantasy romance. I’ve also been working on some short stories/novellas. All of them are speculative fiction. Some are more horror, some are more “werid/surreal/slipstream”. I really want to get them done because they just keep building up. At first I was going to save them for a BIAM or NaNo challenge, but I don’t think they’re really that long. There about eight weeks left in this challenge. If I can get my 90K done on my novel and 6 of the shorter pieces done and ready to send off, I’ll consider that a victory!

  163. Michael Barnette Says:

I’m going to be joining this really late–December 8th or so–because I did NaNo and finished another book. I’m going to give it a try when these two book edits are done.

  164. Elle Amery Says:

Just heard about this and am gonna do it! I have a book due Jan 15th - 50k contemporary romance, and am just getting started. Had another book due early Nov then had revisions, so I’m not as far along as I’d like on this one - still in outline form. Need this kick in the hiney!!

    Heroine’s name/occupation: Tally Bennett/Owner of Sweet Meadows, bath/body business
Setting: Quartzton - small fictional Northern California town, setting of two previous novels in the trilogy
    Goal: 50k
