So…how did we do? Is Spring kicking you into gear…or kicking your butt?

I’ve written 5,200 words since Wednesday — not bad, considering I’ve had to do a lot of going back and smoothing and tweaking. My story continues to develop as I write it.

Anyway, I’m pleased — I’m still on track, and I’m sitting at a total of 58,366 words for Sven. :)

Anyway, I’m pleased — I’m still on track word count-wise, and I’m sitting at a total of 58,366 words for Sven. :)

  3. Thomma Lyn Says:

ACK, sorry about the double comment! :o

  4. Kim Knox Says:

I’ve got maybe 3k out this week. The Other Half’s early shift always exhausts *me* for some reason.

Oh and the writing is slow as my characters are getting horizontal *again*. Don’t these people know the meaning of the word restraint? lol

    Sven total:35 760

  5. Zoe Says:

I’ve got 70k total, and am only a couple of days away from being two-thirds of the way done with the book. Now if only I could feel a bit more enthusiastic about the story…

  6. Jess Says:

I’m totally in gear - I’ve been taking my laptop out with me and writing on the go; what a difference! I’m at 17,100 words now. :)

  7. Larissa Says:

I did good this week! The best yet.

12,665 words since last Sunday. Yay! Now I just need to keep up this pace in order to finish the rough draft of this book by the end of month…

  8. Portia Da Costa Says:

Well, I’ve pretty much given up on this challenge as a lost cause for me… at least right now. I’m getting tangled up in ’stuff’ and lack of direction, and can’t really latch on to a project and *want* to write it. I’m hoping that before the end of the challenge I’ll be back into a good writing groove, and working on something definite. But I find it difficult writing into a void and that’s what it feels like at the moment.

  9. Cynthia Says:

Moving slow. Another 1000 words written this week. I just need to get back fully into writer mode. I’ve allowed myself to be distracted by all sorts of things not writing relaated.

  10. Kate Scott Says:

I’ve had a tough week this week with my pregnancy, so not a lot of writing got done. I have hope that this coming week will be better.

  11. Erin Kendall Says:

I’m doing pretty well. I’ve started a side project that I’m really excited about, and will be working on it and my main WIP at the same time.

    30,861 for Sven so far!!!!

    Cheers,
    EK

  12. Amy Ruttan Says:

I went away this weekend and suffered with Strep since Wednesday so maybe 1,000 words since my 5,000 Wednesday check in. Slow week. Hopefully this new week will be better.

  13. Xidu Says:

Ugh, Amy, poor you. Hope you feel better soon :)

My Sven total is 47,538 words, more or less on target. Yay! But yesterday I did about 5k on a critique and reviews and now my RSI has kicked off a bit, so I’ll take it easy today.

Btw I wish it was Spring here, we’re in the middle of autumn. The clocks went back last night and it’s soooo coooooold!!!!

  14. Larissa Says:

Amy, ugh on the strep!!!! I swear, I’ve been sick with a lot of things, but strep is the WORST. I’ve been hospitalized with it, unable to breathe because of the swelling. So ((((hugs))))

And (((hugs))) to you too, Portia! Hoping you’ll spring back!

Kate, hope the pregnancy is going better and that all is well!

  15. Gwen Mitchell Says:

Wow, Thomma Lyn - that’s incredible! Sounds like everyone so far is doing really good! I’ve only had time to check-in once a week, but I somehow managed to squeeze another 8K in this week in between things. My total for Sven is 38K so far, and I’m hoping to start hitting it much harder in the next couple of weeks, since my revisions are finally *almost* done.

Great job everybody! Keep it up! *waves pom-poms*

  16. Kim Brien Says:

I’m doing this slowly. I have 12.5K for Sven. I didn’t have a good start because of the flu. I was out the first two weeks and now after this rough start and a not so good first month. I can say that I finally see where this is all going.

The sun has finally showed up here in the land of snow, I’m in Canada. Spring is definitely coming now. Even if there’s still over 3 feet of packed snow on our front lawn. It’ll only be good from now on. Crosses fingers. That can only be good for me. I need the sun.

Now can I get to 18K for the next check in. I hope so.

  17. Sandie Hudson Says:

Still slow going for me. I’ve written only about 1,000 words on one project. (Hanging my head in shame.)

I have however had three new projects join my head city. (Love that phase, got it from one of the girl’s from a writing group.) I’ve hand written about five A4 pages for each. Oh and half a page from some whiney guy, who is the ex-boyfriend of one of my new heroines. Just would not shut-up until I’d written something down about. Boy pushy people. I wonder it I could kill him off somewhere in my book? That would teach him.

So bad in the area I really want to work on, not so bad in other areas. Have a great week everyone catch up again ao Wednesday.
    Hugs
    Sandie

  18. Amanda Says:

I got 4 hours of editing done since Wednesday. I hopping back on the horse tomorrow after a month trying to shift through the muck of my life after moving from being gone for a year in a foreign country. So look for good numbers from me when I start writing again this week.

  19. Nayad Monroe Says:

I’m up to 30,100, divided between six stories, and that feels great! :)

  20. Shiloh Walker Says:

Well, since the last check in, my progress has SUCKED…up until today. Can somebody explain to me why I got 4k done in one sitting in a bowling alley at a birthday party when I’ve barely gotten anything done at home?

Including today’s total, all in all, not bad. :)

  21. Maria Says:

Slow week in the writing department. I’m not very pleased with my progress but I did manage to work out the kinks in my WIP. New week, though. I’m determined to make up those short word counts!

  22. Renee Sweet Says:

I got insanely little done last week due to life intruding but I’m pleased with this weekend’s progress. 26214 and counting!

  23. Ann Says:

I just keep chugging along. Don’t have a word count, but I have worked more on my short story and I wrote two poems, so I’m pretty please with my progress (and yes, spring is kicking my butt- I had a wicked sinus headache yesterday- so bad I couldn’t eat, and I was out at a restaurant with friends- sigh). Not so bad today though.
Amy- sorry to hear about the strep, hope you feel better soon.
    Jess- that’s awesome! :)
    Congrats Thomma Lyn- that’s great!

  24. Leah Says:

Nothing bet. Weds and today, but I got so much done at the beginning of the week, my brain just felt empty–plus we went out of town for the weekend. Zoo, children’s museum, kids hopping on hotel beds at 10 pm…my writing dreams were quashed! I’m gonna pick it back up tomorrow. I left my character’s standing in line at McDonald’s–that’s romantic, right?

  25. Leah Says:

Ack! I meant my characters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Misused apostrophes are my one grammatical pet peeve!

  26. Joely Says:

I finished 300 pages of edits, including rewriting one scene entirely (2240 words). I’ll make one last pass tomorrow and then get it shipped back to my editor. Sven total: 33324.

  27. Louisa Says:

I’m at about 45K in this work now. Yesterday, for some reason, I got a new story, for a movie, yet, in a genre I don’t write. Still, I blew 4000 words on a synopsis. It’s really hard to keep plugging away at something you’ve been fooling with for a long time, when a shiny new story comes click-clacking down the sidewalk, a seductive grin on its face, and one lace-gloved hand held against its creamy, dimpled cheek. Suddenly the old story looks–well, old. And it looks tattered and too-well-known, whereas the new story looks all fascinating and mysterious. Ah well.

  28. Jennette Says:

It’s been one of those weeks when every word is a struggle. But I made my weekly goal, bringing my Sven total to 42,000.

  29. Louisa Says:

Oh, Shiloh, don’t fuss about the bowling alley. Did you see anyone famous? But I know what you mean. Last week I got nearly 4K handwritten while waiting for someone to come and jump start (again) my car. Don’t drive enough to keep the battery robust. But, that was pretty good, all those words–in order, in a scene I needed to write–in such an unpromising locale. It’s a gift horse, stay away from its teeth.

  30. Cynthia Eden Says:

40 pages this week–I’d hoped for more and will sure try to do better NEXT week.

  31. B.L. Foxxe Says:

Wow, nearly forgot to check in. I’m at twenty-three pages in a new story since I had to shelve the other projects. This is a young adult thing featuring a pair of rapscallion fraternal twins. The actual word count is at 14k but having started it about two weeks ago, I think I’m doing good.

Writer’s block is a nasty thing. On the bright side, I am finally temporarily employed. Yay! I start Tuesday. :)

  32. Darillian (J. Carter) Says:

Not so good this week. Only 2224 words. Not even my average of 500 a day. Had sick kids, no sleep nights, and lots of kid activities to take care of - props to make for play, help practice for wrestling meet, etc.

Don’t think I’ll be getting much done on WIPs the next couple days. I’ve edited the first couple chapters down to 20 pages for a contest and I need to write the synpsis for it. Guess I can count the synopsis as word count, so maybe I’ll do better this week.

Burnt out, not on writing, but other things, which doesn’t help me have the energy to write.

I have some great ideas I need to get down, but no energy to sit and type. I will press on. Synopsis first.

  33. Kathleen Says:

Um…yeah kicking my ass. 4420/7000 this week. Lost all of Friday and Saturday to work and travel. And did a full read through over the last two days to get my head back in the story. I think I’m mostly finally there, so hopefully I’ll be able to do better this week while I’m on vacation between hanging out with hubby.

  34. Lori Says:

I managed to take two long chapters and turn them into three shorter chapters of mostly new material. I’m enjoying what I’m writing, but I’m still not where I hoped I’d be at this point. I expected to be half-way through and I’m more like a third. Still, I’m writing almost everyday and that’s what it’s all about.

  35. Rebecca Airies Says:

I’m a little behind on my overall goal for the sweat, but this week I did add 8k. I’m happy with that and am looking forward to next week.

  36. deniz Says:

I have no excuses. I’ve just plain done nothing. Well, family events might be an excuse. Anyhow, I’m hoping the April exercise over on the books and writers forum will galvanize me back into action…

  37. Jaci Says:

    Yikes! late checking in.

Last week was productive, just not for writing. Finished revisions and copyedits for a book, then made pdf ARCs for two books. So two projects out of the way that were absolutely necessary. Now I can get back to writing. Oh, and stomach bug over the weekend. So not productive for writing. But I managed to eek out a bit on the word count anyway. I’m really looking forward to digging into a book and writing again! :-)

  38. Jen P Says:

Aside from the fact that I forgot to check in…

I’ve gotten a lot of minor tinkering done this week, but I’ve still managed to get some written longhand on another story. I’m still completely excited about this new story and love it. :-)

  39. Diana Peterfreund Says:

Rounding home with 58k and change…. Will probably hit 60k today.

  40. Lynn Says:

Late checking in, as usual, and no new words since Wednesday. I’ve done a little research for a new story.
