March 19 Check-In

Hump Day. Mid-week. March madness. Just like a tournament, you keep rolling on.

So how are you doing this week so far? Staying ‘goal’ oriented?

  1. Angelle Trieste Says:

Rewrote the last 30 pages and am editing the last 100 pages… :) About 50% done.

  2. Portia Da Costa Says:

I hardly dare show my face… I’ve been editing, then battling technology, then battling with a sinus bug…

    Result = 0 words :(

  3. Nicole Reising Says:

I’m about a 1,000 words off my goal for where I want the word count on my story to be but feeling good. Ironing out some things, doing a bit of editing today, so I’m not sure if I’ll be able to make up that 1,000 today or not. We’ll see.

Hope everyone else is doing well!
    Cole

  4. Kim Knox Says:

My Sven total so far is 18 261

I got a wip that was really annoying me finished and subbed yesterday, to I’m beyond pleased about that, lol Now I have about 20k to write on another wip to get it finished and subbed.

Of course, everything will slowly grind to a halt now as I still have another whole week of Easter holidays to go. Roll on 31 March… ;-)

  5. Joely Says:

I had a *killer* day yesterday and wrote 5800 words! That’s huge for me and doubled my word count for the month. I also finished the last 100 pages of edits and got that work off to my editor. Sven total: 11,241 words

  6. Laura Says:

I have 4800 words written in WIP #1 and 2300 words in WIP #2. I just started the latter and it’s going much easier than the first. I think I’ll keep at it for awhile.

    Sven total = 7100

  7. Erin Kendall Says:

13,761 for Sven! Had some issues with my health that prohibited me from writing for 2 days, but I’m working on it. :D And I have been thinking about the WIP, figuring out future scenes and such. :D

    Cheers,
    EK

  8. Ann Says:

I”m not sure about how many words I ended up writing, because I also did a bit of cutting. But my never ending WIP??? FINISHED!!!!!! Yay me! :)

  9. Patty L. Says:

I’ve only written about 1600 words since Sunday. I am getting out of work half day today and plan on writing this afternoon. Hopefully, I will pick up my slack today.

    Everyone is doing wonderful.

  10. deniz Says:

ooohhh… I’m floundering a bit… have to write a whole new scene for the ending to Chapter 2 and it’s comnig vee-eery slowly. Yet I’m trying to rush it, which is probably not a good thing. Editing that involves lots of rewriting is very confusing :-)

  11. Zoe Says:

Between horrid panic attacks and yesterday’s trip to the dentist, I’m amazed I’ve managed any words at all. I’m at 36,000 words total, though, and hope to get a couple thousand more today. I’ve also gotten a bit of planning done on my next project.

  12. Diana Peterfreund Says:

I don’t know how much I’ve written since the last check in, but I’m at 30k total for the challenge, so I guess I’m halfway there?

  13. sandy l Says:

I floundered last week and will need to make up the page count this week. The bad news: we will be at various grandparents. The good news: my brother gave me a late birthday gift: his old laptop computer. So I have absolutely no excuse not to crank out this #%$+ story!

  14. Bianca D'Arc Says:

Total so far = 24,600 words. Yay! I just have one more scene to finish on my current WIP and then I can start fininshing up the next one. I’ve got edits to look at in between, though, so things will slow a bit again, but I have confidence I can get back on track after the edits. Sven is a great inspiration! ;-)

  15. Maria Says:

Just finished the rough draft on my novella! Whee! I’m sitting at just over 30k as my total for the Sven Challenge. I am so motivated to keep writing that it’s slightly scary, lol. Back to work!

  16. Amy Ruttan Says:

I’ve done 6,000 words since Sunday. My total Sven total is 65,000 words.

I took a break last night. LOL!

  17. Jaci Says:

I’m right on goal for the first few days of the week, though I did just get galleys yesterday for The Darkest Touch. Which means I’ll be trying to hit my daily writing goal while juggling galleys for another book at the same time. Oh. Joy.

Could I get a few more hours in the day please?

  18. Karen Erickson Says:

Sooo after not writing much (well at all!) last week, I’ve written 4857 words since Sunday. Not bad. But like Jaci said, I wish for a few more hours in the day myself. :)

  19. Cynthia Says:

I’ve done about 1,000 words since last check in. I’m currently torn between going back and starting over, using what I’ve done as a foundation, or just moving on. Last night I just kept on writing so we’ll see, right now this pantsing thing kind of fun.

  20. Rachel C Says:

OMG! Since Sunday I’ve put 608 words to Flash Point, the new story I started and today I put 4,331 to the wip I start Sven with taking it to finished!!!! Yes! (punching fist in the air) Stuffing it in the draw to ferment for a while before I start the edit/polish process.
So total for Sven is 12,490 and I am so damn proud of myself.
    See you all on Sunday.
doing the happy dance out of the room……

  21. Amie Stuart Says:

Lessee I got abotu 1000 words on the contracted book and really need to pick it up. The word vomit that hit me Saturday finally stalled out at 9k. I’ve cleaned it up and sent it off to my agent. I’m not sure I’ll work on it again for a while so it’s back to the WIP at hand!

  22. Lousa Says:

For some reason, I’ve started to write mostly in longhand. No idea why. It’s good, though. I was pretty well stuck and unmotivated doing it the usual way. Guess I just needed a change. Not going as fast as I’d like, and there’s all that “typing it up” ahead, but progress continues.

  23. Lousa Says:

BTW–am I the only amateur here? So many of the blogs are obviously for progessionals, and there’s a lot of talk of contracts and agents and editors. Have I blundered into some place I don’t belong? Please let me know, because I don’t mean to intrude.

  24. Lousa Says:

    Professionals, that would be. Sheesh!

  25. Mechele Armstrong Says:

Had a small dry spell and missed two days of writing. Just lots going on.

I’m trying to make up for the word count I missed over today and tomorrow. So far, 3 K for the week and 23452 for Sven.

  26. Trace Says:

Only managed about 850 words since last check-in, not fab but better than a poke in the eye with a stick, lol!

Hey Louisa - I’m working on my first book *waves*, so no worries, wtg on the longhand!

  27. Trace Says:

Oops - sorry Lousa, I typed Louisa by mistake *blushes*

  28. Sandie Says:

I’ve edited 29 pages since last check-in. I should have a lot more done but I’ve been working on my new web site. Finally got my dot com, so yes Miss P was back in full force. So if anyone is interested I’m now at
http://www.sandiehudson.com I’m still going to keep my wordpress blog as I find it so much easier have a blog just for my challenges.
Until next time. Happy writing everyone.
    Hugs
    Sandie

  29. Lauren Dane Says:

I’m revising so I’ve only added about 1,000 to my wordcount. And then I have polishing of another story but THEN I can finally get back to my WIP. Steadily moving forward.

  30. Shiloh Walker Says:

This HASN’T been a good week. Doing some serious revisions so the story is moving better but had to take yesterday off to get taxes done and I’ve also got edits.

I’ve managed a couple thousand, but nothing for me to write home about. Going to sign off here and do some damage this afternoon.

  31. Lori Says:

Much better since Sunday! I finished a pesky chapter and got started on the next, which I’m really enjoying writing. Of course, now that I’m going great guns, I’ve got a guest coming in from out of town. So, I don’t think my progress will be so great by next Sunday. Oh well!

I finished the preliminary design for my home page. Now I’ve got to work on the secondary page design. I really like how it’s turning out. Sort of urban tribal.

  32. Lisa Hendrix Says:

First, I want to say how much I admire those who’ve written 30, 50, 100 pages. The focus and determination is admirable.

    I’m not one of those.

I am, however, poking along at my own pace, though writing daily. I’m always slow at the beginning, while the characters are slowly taking shape out of the mists and I pick up the first wisps of story, finer than silk, and coax them into good strong thread. I’m starting to see shapes, now, and am pleased. I’ll catch up.

  33. Sarai Says:

Goal not going good this week. Way to much personal crap. So I think maybe 500 words tops? Anyway plan to make up for it this weekend!

  34. Xidu Says:

My flu is clearing up and I managed 7000 words yesterday. Haven’t been able to write that many words in a day for a very long time! Sven total is 23,482. Still a little behind target but hopefully I can catch up soon.

  35. Thomma Lyn Says:

I’m sitting at 33,718 words, which is roughly 3,200 words written since Sunday. Today and tomorrow I’ll be holding off on more verbiage to do some storyboarding for my plot, which has gotten unwieldy, and I want to do what I can do to hold it together before I start cranking out words again.

  36. Jen P Says:

Oh, it’s Wednesday, isn’t it? Let’s see… For the challenge I have roughly 13k. I’m in the middle of finals week and then I found out that a whole slew of people are coming to our house for Easter dinner, so chances are good I won’t get very many words down. But next week I’ll be back at the grindstone… er, keyboard.

  37. Gwen Mitchell Says:

I’m at 28.5 for the challenge, but the last week and a half has been very slow-going. I subbed one of the pieces I was working on and am polishing, and then spitting on, and then re-buffing another WIP for submission. When my internal editor is in full gear, I can’t seem to get the words flowing. But I’m hoping to ease back into it. I’m at 58.5 of my 80K goal - must. keep. typing.

And I second the more hours in the day thing. Who do we talk to about that?

  38. Jess Says:

ughhh my husband is a teacher so he’s home on spring break this week, and my mother is coming tomorrow for the holiday weekend, so I’ve been swamped with people and cleaning and Stuff - hardly gotten anything written yet this week. My goal is to hit 14k by Sunday, though. I’m at… 9k >.>

  39. Darillian (J. Carter) Says:

Been sick for the last week, so missed Sunday check in and not much writing. However, did get some important research done and editing, so accomplished Very Important Stuff.

Total since last Wednesday (including a scene idea for something else) is 2140 words. Didn’t get to 20000 word mark for WIP I’m on, but looking good. Probably tomorrow.

Tonight I have to work with kids and type up their science fair projects. Don’t think I can count those words. :)

  40. Christine d'Abo Says:

I’m doing really well with my goal so far. I’m sitting at 4,366 words written since Sunday, and I haven’t done anything yet for today. I’m hoping to get another 1000 done tonight before I go to bed.

I’m going away this weekend for Easter, so it might be hard to write, but I’m going to try!

  41. Jennette Says:

Got my 1,000 words in both Monday and yesterday, bringing my total to 22k. I set my weekly goal to allow for one weekday off - today is my anniversary, so today’s this week’s day off!

  42. Leah Says:

My total as of tonight is 28,869. I have really learned a lot from this challenge. For example, first I thought I was a plotter…then I thought I might be a pantser….now I know that the words only flow when I know what’s going on, and then they sometimes call the shots–sort of a hybrid, like a ‘plotser.’ Also, a good writingday = dirty house day. Perhaps, if I can publish this thing, I can hire Merry Maids!

Good luck to all, and have a great weekend!

(Oh, and Lousa, I’m a first-timer, too. It always makes me feel better to see all of the published writers on here struggling with the same obstacles that I do–it helps me see that it can be done!)

  43. Kathleen Says:

So I’m at 2498 for the week so far, which is about 502 short. And of course this weekend is easter, which means loads of family stuff. So I plan to take Good Friday, which I have off, and write as much as I possibly can to make my 7k weekly goal. I’m hovering just under 50k total just now.

  44. catie Says:

I’m not sure how much I’ve written thus far, all I know is I managed to write something which is good considering the fatigue from CFS/FM is kicking my ass all over the place. I still feel like crying.

  45. Diana Pharaoh Francis Says:

I’m at 21155 so far. I’m behind where I wanted to be, but fairly happy with things so far. Still hoping I hit a complete draft by the time 70 days is done.

Keep going everyone! You all rock!

    Di

  46. Heather Harper Says:

Writing through the anxiety of a Friday root canal…or two. Wish I had more words, but they are better than no words.

Congrats to all who are meeting their goals.

  47. Cat Kane Says:

I’m at just over 8,000 for the challenge so far, which is a fair bit down on where I wanted to be at this point.

But, I’m writing *something* every day, and slowly getting closer to my ideal daily goals, so I’m still pretty happy!

  48. Jerri Says:

I forget to check in yesterday. My total since starting is 20,042. I’m very happy with my progress.

  49. Jean T. Says:

Got about 1,000 words today, bringing me over 4k. Yay for sweat progress.

  50. Brandi Bradley Says:

Forgot to sign in yesterday, again. The story is rolling along. I am just having to do more research on the time-line it is set in. I’m at 15,300.

  51. Kate Scott Says:

Ok, coming in a little late to this, but updating anyway! I’ve really concentrated this week on my WIP, which I haven’t had the time to do a lot. I have no specific word count to report, because I’m currently changing the whole beginning of the story, so words are added as more are taken away, things are being shifted, etc.

It’s taking a while, it’s taking a LOT of work and thinking, but I’m working on it, and working on it until I’m done.

  52. Nicole Gestalt Says:

A little late signing in but I have a good excuse I was writing all day yesterday :) I’m a little behind this weeks goals and probably my goals for this round. Currently my Sven total stands at aprox. 9,900 words.

I don’t feel too bad however as that word count brings me to the end of a piece I have been working on since the last round. I’ve now just got to type it up and begin the editing process. however before I do that I’ve got two pieces to finish by next week plus possibly some more - fun, fun, fun :)

seriously however I hope everyone is doing good and getting those words down even if it’s just one really great singular word you’re still writing everyday.

  53. Renee Sweet Says:

I’m 26% of the way toward my total Sven goal, so pretty much on track. And tired. :)

  54. Lynn Says:

Maybe a couple hundred new words since Sunday. Spring break with everyone home is distracting. Should pick back up.

  55. Maggie Nash Says:

Not as much as I would have liked but I hope the long weekend helps to get me back on track :-)

  56. Shayla Kersten Says:

Well, I missed Sunday’s check–deliberately–because I had nothing to report. Between the day job (annual audit) and being stuck in a self-edit loop on a manuscript, I didn’t have a good writing week.

Sunday evening I put aside the neverending edits and returned to my 20k novella (submission deadline 3/31). From Sunday to late Wednesday night, I clocked nearly 7k. I’m up to 11k on the story and I might just finish it by the deadline!

Of course, I won’t be writing much this weekend. Delilah Devlin and I are headed to Memphis early tomorrow morning for a research trip. Can’t wait! “Road trip, road trip, road trip!”
