March 16 Check In
All righty then! We’re beginning to dig in to the Challenge. With the end of winter and the beginning of spring comes school vacations, colds and loads of stuff needing to be done around the house. All challenges to your writing schedule. How’s everyone doing?

March 16th, 2008 at 5:10 am
I’m going better than expected in the last few days. I had to add to a finished wip…which is always a pain, lol, but I got another 2k out as of last night and I’m hoping that’s enough.
I finished the first of my Sven wips on Thursday - a Nocturne Bite. That’s now zapped away *grin*
My Sven total is 16111. Yay
March 16th, 2008 at 5:26 am
Haven’t started writing yet today, but I’ve racked up 25k on the nose since the start of Sven. I had a few days last week where I hit my daily goal of 1500 but didn’t get much more than that. I seem to have solved that problem so thank goodness!
Anywho…off to make some breakfast! Hope everyone else is doing well!!!
March 16th, 2008 at 5:33 am
Around 16581 or so. The flu has knocked me about badly. Going back to bed now (well, it is Sunday night for me!)
March 16th, 2008 at 7:08 am
I’ve managed 14 610 words for Sven so far - I’ve also managed to write something every day since the last check in, which I’m really pleased with
Hope everyone else is doing ok!
March 16th, 2008 at 7:09 am
26k and change since the start of Sven!
March 16th, 2008 at 7:21 am
This challenge has been a strange one for me, and I don’t really feel as if I’ve started it properly yet. Having to edit/check my main WIP hasn’t really allowed for much forward momentum and racking up of decent word counts.
But I have been working hard. Especially in the last couple of days. I’ve been really deep into my story, refining, tweaking, fact checking… nearly living the goddamn thing! But I think I’m almost finished now, after rewriting one particular scene about five times. I’m turning it in tomorrow, and then I’ll need a day or two to get my breath back… and then I’ll start on new stuff and start building some wordcounts that Sven and my personal coaches will be proud of.
*And* I’ll start being a proper sponsor and do a bit of blog visiting and encouraging! Finally!
March 16th, 2008 at 8:13 am
Still on track, I managed another 10,000 words this week making my total word count for Sven between both projects 59,000.
Still going.
March 16th, 2008 at 8:24 am
I got edits on Monday so Portia don’t feel bad. That’ was most of my week too!!! I did manage 10 more pages yesterday on another project (of course it’s also something I’m not even supposed to be working on
)
March 16th, 2008 at 9:10 am
Well as predicted I hardly managed anything this week. For the whole week I’m presently standing at 1,400 words which I know is nothing really. However today marks the end of the busiest time during these 70 days so I will now be getting the words down.
Not being able to write these past few days has really left me itching to get back into the stories I am presently working on, so hopefully my productivity will suddenly rise!
Good luck to everyone you’re all doing great work.
March 16th, 2008 at 9:30 am
Since the beginning of the challenge, I’ve co-written 44,024 words as of this morning, so I’ve written about 22K on my own. Very pleased!
March 16th, 2008 at 10:06 am
I’m at a grand total of 10,893. Finals are this week, and next week (if I don’t get my brother’s flu) I plan to write a *lot*.
We need Sven T-shirts, by the way. I got a shirt from a second-hand shop and wrote “I survived the 70 Days of Sweat” on it with a Sharpie, along with the dates of the challenge I finished. It was fun.
March 16th, 2008 at 10:21 am
Jen, love that! *g*
I did good this week, with my word count. Yay! Of course, my goal has only been a measley 500 words/day, but I’ve done better than that, thankfully. So this week I’m claiming 4,922 on my Sven project…BUT I did do other writing. I’m just not counting the totals!
March 16th, 2008 at 10:35 am
I haven’t missed one day of writing over a 1,000 words a day since I started sweating–a record for me. Total since I began, 16,791. I was even able to write through a mini crisis, something I’ve never been able to do before.
March 16th, 2008 at 10:36 am
I turned in some edits yesterday, which knocked down my new writing this week. But I’m still just over 19,000 since the beginning of the challenge, which I’m happy with. Hopefully I’ll be able to do a lot more writing before the edits roll back to me next week or the week after.
March 16th, 2008 at 10:55 am
Well, compared to people with 25,000 words, I’m not doing so hot. But I have gotten moving, completed a scene of nearly 2000 words and started another. Plus I’ve gotten some critical research done and know where the next few scenes are going. This next week should be good.
March 16th, 2008 at 11:18 am
I’ve done a little world building in the last couple of days but unfortunately no words have been written. The first round of Spring cleaning took hold and distracted me from everything else. But my writing space is a little more organized now and the manuscript is open on the desk, which is a very good thing.
March 16th, 2008 at 11:21 am
Cynthia…I HATE to clean. HATE IT. But I can’t work when my room/desk are nasty
March 16th, 2008 at 11:22 am
I’m just a bit away from finishing my revisions and then I need to go back and smooth out my novella and finally I can get back to the book due May 15. I’m up only about 6k this week due to revisions of all sorts but it’s all good work so I’m pleased.
Portia - I’m there with you! I did finish a novella but I’m working on revisions so even though my word count has gone up, it’s been very small because of that. Still, it’s writerly!
Xidu - I hope you feel better, the darned flu got me this year too!
Lisa - don’t worry about everyone else’s numbers - some people write faster or are at a different place in the writing process. You’re working hard and bringing up your numbers and that’s what counts.
CONGRATS everyone!
March 16th, 2008 at 12:02 pm
12,643 words so far! Moving right along.
Cheers,
EK
March 16th, 2008 at 12:49 pm
I’ve got 2 out of 4 of my March deadlines done (all shorts) but I’ve gone and got a virusy thing so I’m hoping it doesn’t trip me up too much. Fingers crossed!
Hope everyone has a productive week!
March 16th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
I’m still working on both my WIP, and my story for the Friday Snippets, so it’s been a good week (I’m not sure about the word count- I did some cutting and revising this week, so the numbers probably wouldn’t be as high as they would if it’d been straight writing). But it’s keeping me writing, so yay.
March 16th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
Writing longhand, stressing, the usual.
March 16th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
I have been sick since Tuesday so I have accomplished next to nothing this week. I leave to go out of town tomorrow for 3 days. Hopefully I can make up for lost time this week and get back on track.
March 16th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
I’ve been having some health issues that slowed me down a bit, but I’m doing all right. I’ve got a little over 33,000 words so far. Sometimes the novel looks like cat puke, but sometimes it actually looks halfway decent.
March 16th, 2008 at 4:06 pm
I haven’t done so well since Wednesday’s check in. I have only written 2460 words since Wednesday. I haven’t done any writing yet today, but I thought I’d check in first.
I want to complete my current wip by the April 1, I have to buckle down.
March 16th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
This week, I’ve been finishing up my last proposal–I’ve written 10,000 words on it and completed the synopsis. Finally!! Now I can get back to work on my real WIP and hopefully start getting some progress made on that one.
March 16th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
Cool to see everyone’s progress. Lots of momentum. Me? Well, the “force” has been with me… or maybe it’s the jade “lucky buddha” necklace that I got right before the challenge on a trip to Singapore… I nad less than half my book done when I started sven, hoping to finish in 70 days, and I finished on Friday. I’m amazed. It is a drafty, drafty, draft, but darn it, it’s a full draft! I kept thinking back to the post that was referred to a few days ago “Writer’s write.” Yep. That’s what I did. I wrote and I finished and now I’m super excited, having a great time and deep into editing, killing my darlings and all that jazz. The force is still with me and I’ll keep on the sweatin’ To everyone else, keep on truckin!
March 16th, 2008 at 5:53 pm
Well, I don’t know if it’s good or bad, I’ve only added 1600 words since Wednesday. I’m up to 8000 total.
Greta
March 16th, 2008 at 6:19 pm
My WIP is chugging along and just checked my current word count which is at 48,000. Some of this writing pre-dates Sven and I still have a long way to go. Was also sidelined with the flu (we are running a theme here) and have hit a creative wall. Giving it another whirl after dinner.
Great progress everyone…you’re keeping me inspired for sure!
March 16th, 2008 at 6:28 pm
Forgot to check in on Wednesday. Shame on me! I spent the majority of the week doing edits on the beginning of my WIP. I felt that I just couldn’t continue to move forward in rough draft mode when I needed to solidify some key points of my plot. I think I’ve finally got what I need, so this week I should be able to get back to cranking out new words.
Still, I’m about 18250 words into the WIP! So, yay!
March 16th, 2008 at 6:48 pm
I’ve been doing good, a bit behind tonight but should be able to make it up tomorrow. Going to is how I should phrase that.
Cole
March 16th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
Spent today looking for records for the IRS. Otherwise, doing more okay than I expected, once Real Life started to unreel for me. Excuses, excuses. And I also forgot to check in on Wednesday. I’m guessing around 5000 words this week, but can’t be sure because a whole bunch of them are still on a legal pad.
Knowing that I’ve got writing to do really helps me look forward to tomorrow.
March 16th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
I have managed a total of 1166 for today and a totasl of 2,793 and a complete total so far of 6,076
March 16th, 2008 at 7:17 pm
Didn’t check in with an actual count on Wed because I’d been writing long hand. It’s not all in and the count since last Sun is 3,259 taking my total for Sven to 7,551. No good but not bad either. Hoping to get lots more this week.
May the Word Gods smile upon us all.
March 16th, 2008 at 7:42 pm
Zoe - cat puke…lmao. Sounds like most of my first drafts
A little under 12K for the week, so over my weekly goal but under what I really wanted, which was 15K for the week. But considering I had appts every single day last week, I’ll take it.
March 16th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
Well I am up by 9,000 which I am reallyhappy with. I was sick from Wednesday thru. Saturday with the flu so managing 9,000 on Friday and today I think I am doing good.
I keep changing the voice and that has to stop. Plus I am working on re-writing my first story. I think I might have bitten off more then I can chew but I will see it through dang it!
March 16th, 2008 at 8:37 pm
Revised three chapters.
March 16th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
My WIP is still waiting for me to get back to it, but I’m sweating, Sven. I promise!
My agent hunt has begun. That novel is finished. The synopsis is written. The query letter is ready. The sample pages have been proofed.
Whew! The work is done, now comes the hard part. Hitting the send button on the query and…waiting…
Patience is not my greatest virtue, but this business requires it.
So…thank heavens for Sven, who will insist that I focus on the novel-in-progress while I wait for news…
March 16th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
12239 and counting — woo-hoo! Keep up the good work everyone!
March 16th, 2008 at 9:31 pm
I’m up to 16,200, so I’m pleased with myself.
March 16th, 2008 at 9:54 pm
Had a great writing weekend. 8703 for the week and I’m closing in on 47k. Got some more plotting to do starting tomorrow though, so that might slow me down a bit.
March 16th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
I’m still where I was Wednesday. It was an editing week. =)
March 16th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
17,515 words, not counting today…in Seattle, time still left. It has just beeen a wonderful experience. I love my story, and those I’ve read some of it to have given it good reviews. (Maybe they had too much wine, but I’ll take it.) It has been much easier than I thought…I hope I didn’t just jinx it. I am not editing at all and am not sure when the ending will happen; it could eally be as long or short as I want.
March 16th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
I’ve finished three shorts, and starting another one now.
March 16th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
I’ve written a little over 5,000 words since Sunday. Slow going.
March 16th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
I just hit my goal with ten minutes to spare. But hey, I did it! 20k total, 6000 since Wednesday. Still on track!
March 16th, 2008 at 10:54 pm
Doing very well — I’ve written 10,459 words since Wednesday. I had a great day today: 3,450 words! Overall, my novel-in-progress is currently sitting at 30,480 words.
March 16th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
Another 100 pages edited. Only 100 more pages — which I really need to finish tomorrow — and then I’ll be back to new words.
March 16th, 2008 at 11:49 pm
I was doing great up until Thursday. School work and life just kept interrupting. I’m determined to get back on track starting tomorrow!
March 17th, 2008 at 12:42 am
Um….ask me next check in
The world is conspiring against me!
March 17th, 2008 at 2:39 am
Having my wisdom teeth removed this last week set me back, but I’m still plucking at it with a few hundred every day or so. Total wordcount is currently somewhere about 3,000.
March 17th, 2008 at 4:36 am
661 words written, one query letter revised, and one math test failed since Wednesday
March 17th, 2008 at 7:04 am
Not so great. Sick kids and car stuff. Still, 2400 words when I thought I wouldn’t have any.
March 17th, 2008 at 7:42 am
Doh! I forgot to check in. I managed to get 4,785 words written last week. Not too bad considering what I had on my plate. I’m already at 2000 words for this week, so I hope I can keep things rolling!
March 17th, 2008 at 7:57 am
Got a little sidetracked by the St Patrick’s Day Parade yesterday… but I did some furious rewriting on Froday - just need to make time in fron the computer to type it all up. I love remembering to check in here; it keeps me on my toes! Thanks guys
March 17th, 2008 at 8:35 am
8500! I had already decided my seven free days would be used up at the beginning of the challenge, so I am right on track.
March 17th, 2008 at 8:41 am
I want to check in even though I have nothing to report. Everything’s a little wacked since I got sick and we’re moving countries in one week. With the movers coming tomorrow. I may be able to get some writing done this week. Thank goodness for laptops. Next week I’ll be trying to reestablish a routine, but want to get at least 1000 words a day. Goodbye, England, Hello, America.
March 17th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
Okay… so here goes… confusion (oh Freudian slip?) I mean confession is good for the soul. I got nada. But am I discouraged… umm… yeah, but it’s all good. I’m on track beginning tomorrow… no really… tomorrow it is!
March 17th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
Argh.. THIS is why I try to not do these challenges: DH came down with severe case of food poisoning, I’m unexpectedly babysitting for four days, pc took a dive and won’t reboot, and I have a head cold. However, I can’t resist a challenge, so now that DH’s feeling better, and i’m surviving the cold… and the toddler!, and said toddler’s mama’s coming home tonight, I’ll be hitting the pen and paper, and resuming the challenge. I have no idea what my word count is so far… the pc is hording it. Hope everyone’s doing great, and meeting your goal. I”m changing mine from 4 typed pgs a day to 8 handwritten pgs a day. Luck to all. Happy St Paddy’s day!!
March 17th, 2008 at 8:44 pm
I didn’t get a chance to check in yesterday. Had to go visit the parents. Still going strong, but now a little behind. Hope to catch back up this week.
Hope everything’s going well with everyone else.
March 17th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
Sorry I’m running late, missed Wednesday altogether, so thought I’d better sign-in even late. Sad to say I haven’t achieved near as much as I would have like to, just 2,600 words since last Sunday. Very disappointed with myself.
This week I’m taking a different tack I’m going to do some editing. I’m hoping this well care this cluttered brain of mine. Until Wednesday.
Hugs
Sandie
March 17th, 2008 at 9:50 pm
I wasn’t gonna post because I pretty much did squat–well, I worked out a few more plot points, but still. More sick, more vomit, more cleaning, etc. But then, today–2167 words and I can still think of more! Best wishes to everyone–and especially, you, Amanda–that big of a move? I can’t imagine!
