Less than a month to go now. How is that story going?

Well, I had to go back to the drawing board to restructure my story, and now I’ve got 4,096 words done on the rewrite. That makes over 62,000 words total for Sven, but I’ve got a lot of catching up to do, rewriting, to get to where I was before.

All in all, doing well. I know my story much better now after taking a restructuring break.

Not much writing done this week - stuff with the monsters came first, lol

I have to buckle down next week and get stuff done as I have subs that need to be in at the beginning and middle of May.

My Sven total is 53 567.

I took a few weeks break to mull over this story and then work on a short story for a contest. I’m back to working on my story for this, going slowly as ever. But any progress is good progress. ^^ My wordcount is 11,111, which really amuses me.

  4. Portia Da Costa Says:

Worked on a short this week and got the first draft finished. Not so great… but it’s clay to work with. Was just deciding what to do next when a set of page proofs arrived to check… so that’s me occupied for the next few days! :)

  5. Angelle Trieste Says:

    Let’s see….so far I’m about 50-plus percent into the revision that won’t end. I hope everyone’s doing better. :)

  6. Alexa Silver Says:

As of this morning 96,706 words on my co-written project, which means my half is about 48,000 and approximately 30,000 on various other projects.

  7. Zoe Says:

Now that I’m near the end, it’s flowing slightly better than it was. I have 95k written, and about ten days’ worth of writing left to do. Meanwhile, the outline for my next project is a third of the way done.

  8. Kathleen Says:

Oh blah. I got very little done on my vacation LAST week and came home to a screeching halt due to some procedural/jurisdictional sorts of issues with the FBI. I’ve spent the last week doing everything in my power to track down a current or retired agent who would be willing to answer a few questions for me, but so far that hasn’t panned out. ANYBODY KNOW SOMEBODY? I’ve come up with the most logical way around my issues that may or may not be how things are actually done but I think is a believable alternative for readers anyway. But I still have some questions that I’d really like answered before I jump back in–because this is going to mean another rewrite. I have actually been outlining the changes and making notes on the new characters this change is going to bring in, so I’ve been working on SOMETHING this week. But no actual words to report. I’ve actually gone back to revisit the WIP I was going strong on when this current one wouldn’t leave me alone. I was 39k into it with a pretty strong outline of what happens the rest of the book. Who knew? So I’m rereading it again and may be picking it up for the remainder of the Sweat until I can get some stuff answered for HOC.

  9. Jen P Says:

Blech… if it *was* going, I would be more optimistic. As it is, I’m just trying to survive school, scribbling in my little notebook as much as possible.

By the way, did we miss a check-in this week?

  10. S.J.Bell Says:

Thank goodness, Sven was out of town, I wrote only 3000 words. Although it doesn’t sound like much, I’m happy, because I’m definitely unstuck. I re-configured the plotline a bit and that is helping with the flow. It’s hard to write when you know something just isn’t working.

  11. Jaci Says:

did about 7000 words on a new story, the third book i’ve worked on since this round of Sven started, so all’s going well. :-)

  12. Diana Pharaoh Francis Says:

I’ve been struggling. Getting words done, but not as many as I want. Part of it is where I’m at in the book, part of it is health crap and I’m tired of health crap and wish it would just go away and leave me be. It is also snowing here. Heavily. Isn’t it supposed to be spring yet? Okay, whining is now off. I shall be jaunty and upbeat and oh, yeah, I’ll Get. Back. To. Work. I think my editor wants back soon the copy edited manuscript I just got. So I should perhaps work on that soon.

    You guys are awesome.

    Di

  13. Erin Kendall Says:

46,956 for Sven. Rocking and rolling!

    Cheers,
    EK

  14. deniz Says:

oooh baby! had a productive weekend! at least three chapters edited! finally, prgoress!

  15. Louisa Says:

Not so good. Not at all. Done lots of other stuff, as required by life. Imagined scenes. Tweaked scenes in imagination. Wrote almost nothing. So, you could say I’m having a more and more perfect fantasy life.

Oh, one thing I did was to develop a set of questions to think about before starting a scene. I’ve used this method before, and it really works. This is my first mystery, so I had to tweak the questions, but I believe they are good to go now. I like this method because working through the questions actually creates the urge to write the scene.

  16. Maria Says:

I’m struggling with project skipping. I can’t seem to concentrate on one manuscript. It’s really annoying. I’m sitting at 65k for the challenge. Meh.

  17. Sarai Says:

Well on the main story I am up to 58763 but I am reworking it. Something wasn’t flowing right so I have gone back to the drawing boards to figure out where it went wrong.
For the revisions I am up by 4,000 but still shy 26,000 to get it where I want before submitting by May 1 so that needs some serious polish.

  18. Larissa Ione Says:

Ugh. Not so good this week on the Sven project — only 3,663. But I’ve been working on revisions this week, adding 5k to that, plus rewriting scenes and doing the usual revising. So all in all, although I didn’t come even close to getting 2k a day done on the Sven project, I at least managed at least 500 words a day, so that’s something!

  19. Joely Says:

Despite long, brutal hours at the EDJ home office this past week, I managed just under 7K (including today). I hoped for 10K but I’ll take it. My Sven total is 46,261.

  20. Sandie Says:

10,598 words for the week as well as editing another WIP. Happy with my week. Now on to the next one.

    Hugs
    Sandie

  21. Jennette Says:

I was hoping for more, but unexpectedly had to work yesterday, so I did well to get 8,000 this week, bringing my Sven total to 58k.

  22. Merry Says:

I’ve typed up more of my longhand first draft adding new material as I go. I don’t know how many new words, but I’ve done about 36% of the original total. I’m pleased with it although I could have done a bit more.

  23. Jess Says:

I’m at 25800. On course with my adjusted goals and doing just great!! :)

  24. Diane J Standiford Says:

    41,000 but struggling…
