March 2- Sunday Check In

One day in. How you doing?

102 Responses to “March 2- Sunday Check In”

  1. Scarlett Sanderson Says:

The first day went pretty well for me. Managed to get 1,200 words done of Shadows, despite that fact it was my birthday. I’m hoping to get the same amount done today, and some editing on a short I’ve wrote.

So far, so good. Only another 68 days to go.

  2. Diane J Standiford Says:

No sweat. just over 1,000 words. Great fun!

  3. Portia Da Costa Says:

A good first day for me! I edited five chapters of my main WIP and it wasn’t too horrible… and then in the evening, I started some actual writing. It’s a short, and I’m not sure it’s quite right for the project, but at least I was writing.

    I did about 1.1K words.

  4. Shayla Kersten Says:

I didn’t get started at all! But then Saturday was my mother’s birthday. I spent the day out and about with Momma, two of the siblings and three of the nieces. Lunch, bookstore, coffee, shopping… By the time I got home, exhaustion set in.

I plan to make up for it today!

    And happy birthday, Scarlett!

  5. Kim Knox Says:

After 5.5 hours of a plasterer plastering a doorframe *sigh*, shopping and two nose bleeds from the little monster, I got the minimum 850 written, which I’m very happy about *grin*

    Kim

  6. Zoe Says:

Doing well so far on the new novel. I’ve been getting over a nasty block, but the words flowed yesterday. I got just over 4k written.

  7. Lousa Says:

Got a lot of words–over 2000, but not sure of the keepability of them. The scene is too long, and although the characters showed themselves, which was what I wanted, the villain took the scene in a direction I had not anticipated. Not sure what to think about that.

    Happy birthday, Scarlet.!

  8. Lousa Says:

Here’s my actual blog URL. Sigh. I’m not really awake yet–just got up for hot tea.

  9. Ryan King Says:

I managed to get a good 500 words down before realizing that it was for my previous novel that was deemed “completed” after edits. I guess old writing habits die hard and that novel wanted something else done to it after all! At least I was writing right? Today, I get to restart and actually work on the WIP I’m supposed to be on. Got to love the muse!

  10. Portia Da Costa Says:

    Happy Birthday, Scarlett!

  11. Terra Kent Says:

I managed a total of 36 words and that was outlining a chapter for Second Chance Cowboy, the story that I am using for this challenge. Today though will be better. Good luck everyone.

  12. Shiloh Walker Says:

2000. Won’t get much done today, the bratlet’s birthday was yesterday and we’re going out to eat with her grandparents today, but hey, not a bad start.

  13. Alexa Silver Says:

Great! Almost 6,000 words written. I’m working with a newer co-author and we are doing phenomenally well. I’ll be around all day, but she’s got ‘real life’ to attend to, so we may be a bit slower today.

  14. Kate Scott Says:

Well, yesterday was hard for me. I did end up working on my book, but edited, didn’t write. And figured out that I have to add a few chapters to the beginning, as my story really starts too far in, sigh. And since my brain doesn’t work backwards, this is a bit of a challenge for me.

My hope is to work on the new beginning chapters to get my 500 words in for the day.

  15. Sue Says:

Got almost 2,800 words in yesterday. I have some editing I need to do for another project, so the number will be lower today. Hope to get my goal of 1,400 words in, though.

Sounds like everyone was quite productive yesterday - congrats!

    Happy Birthday Scarlett!

  16. Alison Kent Says:

I love seeing that despite plasterers and nosebleeds and birthdays that people are getting the words done!! I remember a couple of Thanksgivings ago, sitting and getting a few pages done while the husband prepped the turkey, all before company arrived! We get it done no matter!! Kudos to all!

  17. Tess Harrison Says:

I’m actually starting today. Yesterday was just too busy. But great job to everyone who’s already off ot a bang up start!

  18. Diana Peterfreund Says:

over 1000 words yesterday, which is a rocky start given my deadline, but I plan to step it up big time today! I already have 400… so maybe 1/10 of my daily goal…

  19. Jaci Burton Says:

I typically don’t write on the weekends, but had to yesterday since I didn’t hit my word count goal by the end of the week. So 1200 words yesterday, which put me over my goal for the week.

And hey, look at all of you who wrote yesterday! Good start, y’all!!!

    :-)

  20. Robin L. Rotham Says:

I wrote 1,500 words — on the wrong book, sigh. But hey, I wrote.

  21. S.J.Bell Says:

I’ve been stuck for so long, I wasn’t sure I could get into gear, but I managed my 1000 wds and hope to better that today.

  22. Karen Erickson Says:

After not writing for a couple of weeks (on a little break to handle other stuff), I had an awesome first day of sven. 3476 words! Yay! I’m excited.

    Happy late birthday Scarlett!

  23. Heather Harper Says:

No new words, but several pages of new notes. I’m feeling better than I did yesterday. No longer dizzy, so that’s a plus. ;-)

  24. Scarlett Sanderson Says:

Thank you so much for all the birthday wishes :) And many congrats to everyone who got writing/editing done!

I managed 1,500 words today. I can’t stop grinning. This is the first time in months I’ve wrote something two days in a row.

Anyone else having that euphoric feeling?

Maybe I’ve eaten too much cake…

  25. Elle Says:

Happy birthday, Scarlett, and great job on getting so much done! :D

School is kicking my butt this weekend so I haven’t been able to do as much as I would’ve liked on my WIP. OK I’m totally sugar-coating–I got NOTHING done, in fact :( But I did write a few ideas down for my upcoming plotting day (Tuesday) and in the midst of my school stuff I’m world-building in my head. I have high hopes for this week!

  26. Portia Da Costa Says:

Well, I thought I was going to be rubbish today, and just do a bit of editing.

I have only done a bit of editing, but I switched to writing a while back and did a whole 1000 words! And it’s still only 5pm. Might be time to do a bit more of either writing or editing before I go out tonight! :)

  27. Jen P Says:

Heh! One day in and I almost forgot to check back. That’s bad… :-/

Don’t let my word count fool you… I’ve really done a lot of work. I’m doing edits, so my numbers will be low until I start the next novel. The count now is 272 words.

  28. Erin Kendall Says:

1,038 words! I did very well. :) Happy birthday Scarlett!

    Cheers,
    E.

  29. Stephanie G Says:

I just started - a day late and behind already–but psyched!

I have two wips that I MUST finish and between them I will need to write another 100k words.

I love the challenge, and I especiallly LOVE the company in my misery.
    Thanks!

  30. Michelle Says:

    Hi
I’m doing fine. I”ve made a list of things I need to do, but it’s going along. I like this challenge.

  31. Dawn Montgomery Says:

975 yesterday. Not too bad. 125 over my daily goal. I’m still working on it today. 850 a day is an excellent jump point for me.

  32. Gwen Mitchell Says:

The day is just starting for me, but I got a whole chapter (3280 words) finished yesterday. I was aiming for 5000, because I write mainly on the weekends, but I caught a good wind which I’m hoping to pick up today. Great job everyone - keep it up!!

    Scarlett - where’s my cake? =(

  33. Beth Wodzinski Says:

    Good job, everyone!

I got just over 1000 words done, despite the devil cold. Today I’m feeling much better, and looking forward to making more progress.

  34. Xidu Says:

I managed 1055 on the first day, despite OH pottering around and dragging me out to the shops twice to buy Easter eggs for the family LOL!

  35. S.J.Bell Says:

Happy Birthday Scarlett! I’m sure you have had too much cake. I’ve had too much cake and it isn’t even my birthday. Yes, I do feel euphoric, euphoric and sweaty.

  36. Tina Bendoni Says:

Um, got nothing done. Started to work on edits for two stories (crit partner gave me back the stories with the edits to do). And read three stories and wrote two reviews, but none of that counts :).
So, editing today, and then on to writing. Really :)

  37. Trace Says:

I’ve managed 3900 words for yesterday and today, so I’m really pleased with that as I’m the worlds worst procrastinator :)
    Happy birthday Scarlett!

  38. Cynthia Says:

I managed about 1400 words yesterday, so I’m happy with that. I’m going to try for 1500 today.

Good job, everyone! Keep it up!

  39. Michelle Hasker Says:

I got about 800 written yesterday, but edited a short story so hopefully that counts ;)

Good job gang and good luck to everyone!

  40. Joely Says:

A slow start for me so far. I hoped to have the current project finished so I could start the new one, but that didn’t happen. I’m torn between ditching the current project and starting the new one… which means I’ve gotten nowhere fast. Today I’ll make a decision and stick with it.

  41. Debbie Mumford Says:

Well over 1200 words yesterday, and today I topped the 2800 mark.

I’m off to a good start. Thanks for the motivation!

  42. Amanda Says:

I read a crit partner’s 165 page novella. That’s gotta count for something right. I get most of my work done during the week. I’ll be definitely checking in on Wednesday with some major words.

  43. Walt Mussell Says:

Two days in. Just over 2,000 words written on my first fiction novel. For me, that’s incredible.

  44. Lia Morgan Says:

Well, weekends are near impossible for me since I work 12 hour shifts on the weekend. But I did something 175. Will try for more tonight at work.

Should have made headway by Wednesday.

  45. renee Says:

The first day was great, over 1k on my new ms.

  46. Trisha P Says:

Yesterday was slow, I got called in to work. But I was able to do some handwritten stuff, not sure how much. Hopefully this evening will be more
    productive.

  47. Nayad Monroe Says:

I wrote 1,100 words yesterday, and 1,000 so far today. Having the wordcount goal, along with the need to post results, helps a lot! Congratulations to everyone for your efforts, and I’ll see you on Wednesday. :)

  48. Taylor Hartt Says:

I managed 657 words yesterday, with a migraine, the kids home (and rowdy) and the fil hovering, trying to read over my shoulder. Every word counts right.

  49. Maria Says:

It’s been awesome so far! I managed to knock out 2849 words on my YA yesterday, and 1755 on my erotic romance so far today!

  50. Lynn Matherly Says:

Slow start today, but they day’s not done!

  51. Lauren Dane Says:

I’ve been struggling with the flu so aside from finishing up a tweak on a revision yesterday, I laid around and sweated a lot. Today though, I snuck off for a few hours, closed the bedroom door and got 2K down. I’m hoping to get that later tonight as well.

  52. Sandy l Says:

So far, the goals for both days were met. If I didn’t have to feed the husband and kids, I’d exceed my goal. Total word count for both days: 2,143.

  53. Karen Mahoney Says:

I am officially starting Monday (I’m using 2 of those 7 ‘extra’ days by working on plot this weekend!)… I wrote a lot of notes and thought my way out of some problems, so I consider myself on target. I have to start getting ‘real’ words tomorrow!

    Well done, everyone!!!

  54. Kristi Says:

I’m really excited this time around … and so far so good (easy to say on Day #2, huh?)! 3500 words with a little time left today before real life hits on Monday and my fiction time dwindles a little. I’m committing myself, though, to 1,000 words even during the work-week…and hopefully I can hit my goals!

  55. Megan Hart Says:

Nothing on Saturday (when I don’t usually write anyway) but this morning I read over my WIP and hand wrote two and a half pages of inserted scenes and planned for my first official writing day tomorrow.

Goal is 10 pages a day, 2500 words.

    *cracks whip*

  56. Kathleen Says:

Had a good day yesterday–today, not so much. I’ve been wrestling with our taxes for 3 hours and I’m so disgusted and discouraged that I’m not sure I can actually write unless it’s a very gruesome chapter about everything I would like to do to Uncle Sam. Damn taxes…

  57. Red Says:

Slow start yesterday but I did write 1000k today, so I’m happy! :) Goodluck everyone! Thanks for hosting this to all the fabulous hosts!

  58. Laura Says:

Ha! I wrote 250 words so far. Better than nothing, right?

  59. Lori Says:

Looks like it was a birthday weekend. It was my husband’s birthday yesterday. Happy Birthday to all who celebrated!

I didn’t get a lot of writing done, but I did manage to work on my website and do some edits. Hoping for better results by next check-in.

  60. Nicole Gestalt Says:

I’ve only managed around 850 words but I’ve been hitting some plot troubles…however I think I’m now over them so hopefully the words will flow easier the next few days.

  61. Farrah Rochon Says:

I managed to get 2,000 words done over the past two days, which is really good because I do NOT write on the weekends. I’m so happy I signed up for this challenge.

Happy birthday to Scarlet and Lori’s husband. :)

  62. Amy Ruttan Says:

Started a day late cause I was out of town. Since I got home today I’ve down almost 10,000 words.

    Still going strong. :D

  63. Yvonne Y Says:

I *have* to revise the beginning in order to get to the New Words writing, so right now I’m minus 131 words. Yikes! But the revising is going well and I’ll be writing fresh soon. Yay!!

  64. Mary Danielson Says:

I’m starting a day late and trying to get caught up by the time I go to bed tonight. The 7 free days are a lovely bit of wiggle room for us late starters, but I still want to be on track!

  65. Greta Wheeler Says:

Let me stress this is my first time. After encouraging e-mails for Jaci & Lauren I’m attempting to write my first story. I got 200 words yesterday and added 400 today. Hopefully as I get into this my word count will increase.

  66. Mechele Armstrong Says:

Around 1100 yesterday and 1300 today bring me up to almost 2500 words. I’m happy as its the weekend and hard to write with everyone home.

  67. Sandie Says:

I’m happy with my progress so far, 2,287 words and I also did some research. So in all not a bad start. Let’s hope it continues. Good luck everyone.

  68. Audrey Says:

Did some research on my WIP progress yesterday and got some hand written pages onto the computer. Did about 1000 words today. Congrats to everyone!

  69. Kerry Allen Says:

My goal has changed to a new 70,000-word project that came to mind last week. Because it’s so fresh, some of my time has gone toward research and my mandatory start-in-the-wrong-place beginning that had to be trashed, so I have only 1200 keeper words to show for 2 days’ work. I expect the pace to pick up, though, now that my direction is better defined!

  70. Lynn Says:

Finished a short story yesterday, so I was pretty proud of that. I was 112 words into it before Sven started, and wrote another 615 yesterday to finish it up.

Haven’t done any new words today, as of yet. An awful headache and general feeling of blah kept me on the couch most of the day. Will keep plugging along.

    Thanks for another round!

  71. Marianne LaCroix Says:

    1000 for me. Nice start.

  72. Sindee Sexton Says:

Oh wow! 500 words so far! I need to get 55K by friday.

  73. Thomma Lyn Says:

Starting out strong — 3,179 words so far! :D And lots of brainstorming, ideas, and brand new notes.

  74. Barbara Burnham Says:

650 words yesterday and 550 for today. But I’m still writing!!

    Keep writing everyone!

  75. Jennette Says:

So far so good! Despite spending about three hours unexpectedly having to remove a virus from my daughter’s computer, I managed to hit my goals - 2000 words yesterday, 2000 today, just what I wanted!

  76. Tuesday Morrigan Says:

I think I did pretty well considering all things. I had a simulation class that lasted six hours and then a group meeting that lasted three. I came home and worked on a report for work. I managed to get through some edits and wrote a little (256 words) for my WIP so I’m pretty proud of myself. So far today is going well. I’ve gotten like 500 words done and I’m a night writer. *G*

  77. mary beth Says:

No words for me this weekend, but I’ll make it up later in the week. I’m taking a day off work once our deadline is done.

  78. B.L. Foxxe Says:

Almighty Inteference Bites finished yesterday with the grand total of 16k+ and the synopsis sent in. Early days yet in finding whether it still has plot holes the size of mack trucks :)

Silkweaver’s Burns has an additional 2k, I’ve got combined novellas that are intermixed, so I’m doing copy paste and rewriting as I go along. At least they’re being dusted off :)

Frozen Fate received another 2-3k when I’m not deleting sections because they don’t work.

Silkweaver’s Never Ending Journey - hasn’t been touched yet. Still working on separated bits to add to the whole sucker.

Silk Emporium: E&K - hasn’t yet been touched. Should be interesting to see what little I still need to finish.

    That’s all for now folks!

  79. Lisa Hendrix Says:

Total failure to launch. Too many birthday parties, sick kids, whatever. Rather than spread out the missing words over the entire remaining program, I intend to catch up this week. I’m also setting up a “Treadmill log” blog, to link from my website when I relaunch the site this week. I’ll post a link next update.

  80. Gina Marina Says:

Man, after talking about this for weeks, I totally & completely forgot about it! So two days = zero words :(

  81. Lonnie Says:

I started a couple of days early, to get a heads up in case I have a day I can’t write or something. Plus, I was just plain inspired to write! I’m going to finish my fourth novel with this sweat. My goal is 1K words per day, and I’ve done a little more than that every day for the past five days. I’m psyched! Today I didn’t get started until 9:30 p.m. but I still did it! And the writing isn’t even totally awful, although it needs some editing… still, I’m moving the story along. Going to sleep now. Sweat done for the day!

  82. Amanda Carrell Says:

I didn’t manage to write one word this weekend. My first release came out on Friday and then everything else just went crazy from there. I *will* catch up on the words this week, though.

  83. Michelle (MG) Says:

I didn’t write yesterday, but I started a bit early the week before because I knew I might have to take time off (a friend of mine’s mother passed away). Today I wrote 909 words so I’m very happy. My goal is 1k, but I was interrupted by my sick 6 yr old dd and she takes precedence.

Still a good day for writing! Go Sven!

  84. Elle Blum Says:

Seeing as I just found out about this and decided to jump in tonight I’m two days behind, but hopefully I’ll catch up easily. Luckily now is the easy time to catch up and perhaps even get ahead. Thank you Sven for giving me this opportunity!

  85. Kristine Says:

803 words yesterday, 817 today. It’s been a while since I had to hit a certain number of words/pages a day, and the writing muscles are a little flabby. Need to build up again.

  86. Gwen Mitchell Says:

Final word count today = 7300. *wipes sweat off brow*. Nothing like a 3hr car ride to get you sweating!

    *waves at Thomma Lyn*

As for all the late comers - don’t worry ladies! There were 7 extra days built in this time, so you have plenty of time to catch up. NO SWEAT. Er… well, sweat - but . . . you know what I mean! =P

  87. Portia Da Costa Says:

Wow, there are some really strong starters amongst us this time! Thousands and thousands of words!

But even if you’ve made a slow start, that’s not a problem… it’s all about writing ’something’ every day, and moving forward, even if that’s just by editing or planning. :)

  88. Sara Dennis Says:

I got my quota for yesterday done. Woo, go me!

Today, not so much, since I was running like a chicken with my head cut off. I’ll make it up, though, since I don’t want to burn one of my free days this early in.

    *chug chug chug*

  89. bettie Says:

Only 412 words. I blame the cold from heck. ::sniffle:: :(

  90. Merry Says:

Well, no new words on 3’s Company as such. But I have started the type-and-edit and got 386 words done between the cooking, cleaning & shopping! I also got about 500 words done on a new short story ‘Contraband’, so I’m quite happy with it all.
There’ll be more today. For some reason I’m more productive the less time I have to do it in! :D

  91. Saskia Walker Says:

Our weekend was hijacked by a plumbing disaster, which seemed like a bad start :-) but I did manage to get 1450 words done over Sat and Sunday.

Hope everyone has a productive week!

  92. Ally Kendall Says:

Didn’t do as great as I would have like here–only about 1000 words in the first two days. I did however come up with a new beginning of this perpetual pain in the butt story and I think it’s going to work better. Yay!
    :)

  93. Larissa Ione Says:

Posting late, but I did make my goals both days! :)

  94. Margay Says:

I forgot to check in yesterday, so I’m doing it today. Was battling off an asthma attack but still managed to get in about 800 words on current wip.

  95. Nina Says:

This is my first time with the challenge. *sigh* Still haven’t started writing yet, but I WILL make up all the words. I know there’s no one with a whip (oh to dream) behind me, but with everyone getting their butt in gear it’s giving me the incentive I need.

Can anyone tell me how to put one of those little word meters on my blog?

  96. Thom Allen Says:

Posting late, but I hit the writing goals for the past few days. Keeping up is what I’m striving for, I know how hard it is to catch up.

  97. deniz Says:

Here goes! As of Monday night (day two) I hope to be finished any and all crits on others’ writing and dig into editing my own story! The goal is to be finished scribbling, typing, entering, etc. all edits by the end of this challenge. Phew!

  98. Laya D. White Says:

I unexpectedly wasn’t able to get anything done on Saturday, but yesterday I got 922 words. Every single one was like pulling teeth. I think I know why, but the challenge is figuring out what to do about it.

  99. Joy Renee Says:

had two several hours long play dates with my characters over the weekend. learned stuff i never knew about a few of them. no new words yet but word count is only a minor measure of success for me. i’ve learned that, for me, keeping those daily play dates, arriving with my heart attuned to the characters and eager for their company is a guarantee the words will flow. this is the major aha moment I had the last week of NaNo after looking back over the previous year’s experience with two NaNos and two rounds of Sven. it may be my eccentricity but I won’t sweat out the words unless i refuse to sweat it about the words.

  100. Lacey Savage Says:

Just because I’ve never been all that good at doing things by the book, I’m completing Sven’s challenge a little differently than everyone else.

For a variety of reasons, I don’t write on the weekend. So instead of writing for 77 days straight as Sven demands, my goal is to write 2,500 words a day, Monday to Friday — OR to write a total of 10,000 words a week. (Yes, I know the math doesn’t add up — I’m giving myself permission to let life interfere if it must, otherwise I’ll go mad).

My challenge total is 100,000 words on a variety of projects by May 16. (Yes, I know the math doesn’t add up yet again, but I’m also giving myself time to plot and edit. So I guess I’m completely messing up Sven’s challenge. Sorry, Sven! I gotta do what works best for me.)

Since today was my first official day as a Svenanite (hey, I kinda like that!), I’m happy to report I wrote 2,586 words on a contemporary short novella, newly titled DON’T LOOK DOWN.

  101. Karen Mahoney Says:

I started today and am pleased to report 1,000 words. So that’s ahead of target already… ;)

I’m aiming for 6K per week (minimum) for the duration, starting today.

  102. Laura Armstrong Says:

Didn’t realize there was a Round 3 going on until today! Nonetheless wrote 210 words on Sunday, just plucking around. More by tomorrow, though I may not catch up with (do the math, quick—) 4250 words. Yikes.
