I missed the last few check ins because of the holidays so 10080 is the tally since the last time. And I’ve done the tally for the whole sweating thing to date 89,151. Impressive…yes but yet, most of it is for stuff I’ll never sell, being fanfic. I’d be more impressed if I could do more on the original stuff.

Now that I’ve accepted that it’s just not the right time for me to be working on a new novel, things are going much better. I’ve written three new flash fiction stories in the last week, I’ve submitted two to paying zines, and I’ve updated my story collection at my Lulu store. I also put a version of my story collection on Amazon in Kindle format. I’m going to do the same with my POD novel, but it’s a bigger project and I probably won’t get very deep into the Kindle formatting until Monday.

I’ve updated my Lulu storefront with a fancy new custom banner that I made with Photoshop. I bought a domain name and created a professional-looking author’s website which should be live in another day or two after my domain name gets picked up by the DNS registries.

I’ve got a new flash fiction I’m going to work on tonight, and in my down time (LOL) I’m editing one of my older novels. Experimenting in flash has really taught me about making every word count, and I’m going to take what I’ve learned and do some major cleanup to a novel I’ll make available POD and to one I think has good market potential that I’ll pitch to agents.

    Things are going great! :-)

I’m still struggling to get back into the groove after Christmas. I was doing okay, with editing, although I was going backwards wordswise. But I’ve slipped again… just trying to catch up with life stuff from the holidays. So many messages to answer etc etc. And it’s all doubly difficult with himself around the house…

Ah, excuses, excuses… some sponsor I am!

  4. Gina Marina Says:

    :p

I’ve got to spice up & polish my OW/YM story, the contest is to Jan 31!

  5. Sandie Hudson Says:

Still haven’t achieved anything since before Christmas. I’ve been sick since Boxing Day, so done nothing more then checking emails and sleeping. Hopefully by the New Year I’ll be back on my feet and writing again.
    Happy New Year everyone.
    Hugs
    Sandie

  6. Amanda Says:

I wrote! Yeah! I actually got some words down and figured out how to come out of the tailspin I was stuck in. I didn’t get that much done. My husband was reading over my shoulder, but I got some.

  7. Mechele Armstrong Says:

Last week sucked for writing due to holidays and sickie kidlet. 2425 since Wed. I’m almost at 90 K since this started.

But it’s a new week and a new year. So here’s hoping for a better time. I want to finish off this project and add to another.

  8. Carrie Lofty Says:

I don’t know how many I’ve done since Wednesday, but I know I’ve done 5193 since the last check-in. That means 72370 for the challenge. I have about 25-30K left to do before the 15th, so I guess that means holiday break’s just about over.

  9. Charlene Teglia Says:

Edits: done. Proposal: 90%. Goal is to get that out tomorrow.

  10. Saskia Walker Says:

Not good, I’m afraid. I’ve had a virus all this past week and that knocked me right back. In better news, the first project I worked on during this challenge is being signed by Red Sage, which was terrific news and leads me into the New Year on a hugely positive note. So, I’m hoping for a better week ahead. Big thanks to Sven and to all you wonderful sponsors for helping me complete that novella!

  11. Joely Says:

Still working on re-plotting/re-building a second draft that’s basically an entire rewrite starting 2008. I’m using First Draft in 30 Days (minus about 2 weeks) and trying to get the outline down, but it’s certainly giving me fits. Trying to SEE the story, how an existing scene needs to weave into a new story line, with significant revisions… But I’m getting there with the help of 2 spreadsheets, an outline Word doc, 3 notebooks, a 3-ring binder, and an entire pack of notecards. *dies*

  12. Lori Says:

I haven’t done any writing today (yet), but my total since Wed. is 5392. The overall total for my WIP is 90,710. I would feel better about this if I didn’t know that I need to write about 20K more to finish the book.

  13. Kathy McIntosh Says:

I’ve just started writing today after a holiday hiatus that went on and on and on. (and on, but I said that). I kept meaning to write and then did a little decorating, did a little baking, did a lot of eating.
I haven’t checked in often, but my goal was to finish the first draft of my comic mystery novel by the 15th. It doesn’t look good, thanks to my holiday excuses. But it doesn’t look impossible, chiefly because I’m a wild-eyed optimist.
    Now, back to it.

  14. Linda Says:

I think that I have finally come to the conclusion but it is still a little up in the air, I could add a little bit more to the ending, am going to give it a little more thought but so far have rounded it off to about 75,000 words

    Linda
    and happy holidays to all

  15. Taige Crenshaw Says:

I missed a few check ins. My total overall is 70,130.

  16. Seanachi Says:

Been out of town. Haven’t been writing. Bleh. Hoping to get back to it tomorrow.

  17. Rebecca Airies Says:

Well, I haven’t gotten much actually written since I last checked in due to the holiday rush. I’ve been doing some revisions. I did manage to reach my Sweat goal of 90k though! I’ve got some revisions I need to focus on but I will still be writing.

  18. shannon kennedy Says:

Well. I’m back on track - sort of. I got 2,000 words done since Wednesday and almost finished chapter 6 of my y/a. I really want to finish the book by the time “Sweat” ends. We’ll see.

  19. Karen Duvall Says:

I’m happy to report that thanks to Sven, I’m at 73,250 words with about 5000 left to go. Yay! I’ve never written so much in such a short period of time. I’ve already started researching agents and have my A, B & C lists prepared. It’s been years since I’ve had an agent and I have to admit I’m not very eager to start the search again, but I know I need and agent for this book. Once the revisions are done and the synopsis polished, it’s query time.

  20. Joy Renee Says:

I haven’t been to check-ins since NaNo finished. It was not my intention to drop out. At the end of NaNo I still owed Sven 20K. Still do. Since I did 30K in the last ten days of NaNo, I’ve not given up hope of pulling the same thing off by Jan 15. But I’m aware that is not in the true spirit of 70 Days where the idea is to maintain as daily a practice as possible.

I spent the two weeks following NaNo out of town, visiting my Mom for the first time in two years. Although I had my laptop with me, conditions there were just not conducive. Too hectic, chaotic and over-committed already.

When I got back home there was only a week til Christmas and conditions were again hectic, chaotic and over-committed.

What has been my major stumbling block? The mess in this room created by neglect during NaNo, a hasty packing for a trip, a husband batching for two weeks while working 12 hour shifts, a hap-hazard unpacking, a manic Xmas shopping and gift prep last week-end, a two-week accumulation of laundry, topped off by the entry of the gifts we received.

I’m going to be putting all my energies (creative and physical) and time into creating order in my working environment over the next several days. But I hope that by next Sunday’s check-in I will have some new word-count to report.

One important lesson I’ve taken from this: maintaining order in the writing environment is as important as the writing itself. Daily word count must have equal footing with daily maintenance of writing tools and environs not the least of which is ones self. Chaos sucks up energy and time like a black hole.

  21. deniz Says:

all I do day in day out is think about this story and think about Ephesus and Rome, and do research and read about editing and querying and so on - but do I actually touch the WiP? No! Grrr….

  22. Lauren Dane Says:

I hit my target and I’m done with all my deadline stuff. All I need to do is finish up last minute polishing. Then I’ve got some novellas to finish but in truth, I don’t want to work on either one of them right now. Bleh. I hate being sick.
